Unhinged baby names you considered for your children when pregnant…

What were they?
i have two girls, and I’m a fan in different names - but not made up names, IYKWIM.

when I was pregnant with my first I watched Moulin Rouge, and for quite a while I was convinced that Satine would be the perfect name, but my partner said no.
my second I was desperate for Vivienne, which in in itself is a gorgeous name, but combined with Satine seemed to follow a trend of ‘ladies of the night’ (pretty women) so my partner said no again.

whats the most out there names you considered for your children?

my top boys name was Moss. Not sure I’d have gone through with it.

I genuinely really (and still do) like Orlando. Just not the name for a boy from a non posh background growing up around Glasgow though!

My husband had Blair and Leanne on his list of girls names when I was pregnant. Yes this was 2006 not 1986.

When I was a teen I was obsessed with the name Orlando, had a hamster named that. Thankfully by the time I had DC my taste was a bit more traditional.

Kissyfur. Not as a nickname for Christopher, just Kissyfur. Fortunately, she was a girl.

Wilhelmina or Eugenie. DH vetoed both very quickly

Thought Mirena would be a nice name if it wasn't a contraceptive...

MyCottageGarden · 13/05/2026 23:11

Not quite what you asked but two unhinged influencer baby names I’ve heard lately that I cannot get past (both in USA, obvs), were ‘Decker’ (who names their baby after a type of bus?!) and ‘Truman’ - yep, the same spelling as the movie! 🤦🏼‍♀️😆😆😆

Utterly unhinged, those poor babies.

TheDisillusionedAnarchist · 13/05/2026 23:14

I love the idea of twins/sisters named Rhythm and Rejoice but wasn’t going to happen.
I also loved Job but it was hated on here, and DH wasn’t keen so never got to use.

Buffy
Woody

RunLyraRun · 13/05/2026 23:19

Thor, pronounced Tor, was under serious consideration for a while

Ticktockwatchclock · 13/05/2026 23:20

I love the name Yorick but quickly realised it would not be a good name for any child. So I named my Kindle Yorick just so I could use it.

Banana. I thought it went well with our surname 😂

Banana Hanna?

roy is my daughters middle name 🤣

Roy would be my daughter’s middle name!! I don’t have a daughter, but if I did I’m set on that so great choice!

Toyed with Agatha, still love it, if we ever get another female pet I might call it Aggie

For some reason I loved Nova-Lee. Wtf. Both dd have normal names, thankfully.

BeardieWeirdie · 13/05/2026 23:24

Rufus (too much time listening to Rufus Wainright in the bath when pregnant). Luckily bump turned out to be a girl - I suspect a Rufus would be eaten alive in school around here.

hahabahbag · 13/05/2026 23:24

@WheretheFishesareFrightening

i find it odd for a girl, definitely a boys name and the person I think of in that awful comedian Roy Chubby Brown, don’t burden a little girl with that name

MyDuvetDay · 13/05/2026 23:26

Genevieve

actually I still like it!

Obviouslyanxiousmum · 13/05/2026 23:27

I loved honey, meadow and pearl for baby girl names but DH vetoed them, and we ended up with a pretty regular name in the end! Hoping if we ever have another girl I might get to pick something more unusual 😁

Davros · 13/05/2026 23:29

There’s a Bette Davis film in which she and her sister, played by Olivia Dehavilland, are called Roy and Stanley. No explanation. 😹

Angelica 😂

Love Angelica
Always been one of my faves.

ThePontiacBandit · 13/05/2026 23:33

Bellatrix 😆 works with the surname! Vetoed and DD got a more traditional name.

Previous poster mentioned Malachy and Lola - DD went to school with DC with those names!

brogueish · 13/05/2026 23:34

I really like Bellatrix!

soundsys · 13/05/2026 23:37

Moth. Short for Timothy.

FireBreathingDragon · 13/05/2026 23:37

JuliettaCaeser · 13/05/2026 22:39

Lorelai and Augusta. Middle name Lark. Surname has lots of Ls making Lorelai an even worse option. Shockingly dh went along with both!

We used Augustus as a middle name - it was received in shock by most but I am still delighted by it.
