Unhinged baby names you considered for your children when pregnant…

What were they?
i have two girls, and I’m a fan in different names - but not made up names, IYKWIM.

when I was pregnant with my first I watched Moulin Rouge, and for quite a while I was convinced that Satine would be the perfect name, but my partner said no.
my second I was desperate for Vivienne, which in in itself is a gorgeous name, but combined with Satine seemed to follow a trend of ‘ladies of the night’ (pretty women) so my partner said no again.

whats the most out there names you considered for your children?

my top boys name was Moss. Not sure I’d have gone through with it.

Athelstan 🫣🤭

I know an Amos who is called Moss or Mossy by everyone.

I wanted Tristan, Cassian or Lucien for a boy. Still like those. And Odette or Elaina for a girl which again I still like.

This was pre-ACOTAR by the way, but apparently I share some taste with SJM.

I have a boy and a girl and they do have names that wouldn't be out of place in that list.

roy is my daughters middle name 🤣

Oh goodness! Why?!

PinoirNot · 13/05/2026 22:49

Honestly for a while, I really wanted my unborn child to be either a girl called Floella, or a boy called Levi. This was before Levi Roots, but not by much - that would’ve been awful.

Floella I still think is a great name, but not for a person under 50 who isn’t a former kids TV presenter. I think it would really suit a house rabbit.

DH kept jokingly (well, mostly jokingly) suggesting Horatio for a boy which I laughed off, but there did come a point where I was like wait … maybe?

I still love Hero for a girl, I really do, but not sure I’d ever be brave enough to actually use it.

We had a brief moment of considering Aelswith for a while too.

Given the above DD ended up with a very normal name really.

patooties · 13/05/2026 22:52

Bernard. Seriously.

Persephone

I maintain that it’s a lovely name but I’d never be brave enough to use it

Ended Up with 2 DSs with very ordinary names

I love it too! Sephy for short.

HopefulYankee · 13/05/2026 22:55

The most out there name I considered while pregnant with my first was Leilani 🙈

I would say ‘Keane’ at a guess!

I know some kids with quite a few of these names!

UnderThePressure · 13/05/2026 22:56

When I was pregnant with DD1, my husband had a dream that the baby was called Sydney and whilst pregnant we called the baby "Syd". It sort of stuck and we almost considered calling her it, but we saw sense thankfully 🤣

I also LOVE Sapphire but it gets a unanimous thumbs down whenever I mention it. I still think it's beautiful though.

I love it it just sadly has stripper vibes

IKR - I thought Barney as a little boy- I know quite a few handsome men called Bern. I’m still not totally opposed !

chickensatire · 13/05/2026 22:57

My 31 year old son was going to be named Bonnie if female. He was so glad he was male !

MissisBee · 13/05/2026 23:00

I considered Merlin. We went for Arthur.
DH got really stuck on Fyfe for a while. I would not have allowed that!
I've always secretly loved Aurora for a girl but it's the name of the local leisure centre, so not a good idea.

Slightyamusedandsilly · 13/05/2026 23:00

Jade (so 80's) and Ethan. Still sort of like Ethan but it's more or less been ruined by a little git with it as a name.

Gone right off Jade.

Malachy
Bronwyn
Lola

Bronwyn is a lovely name! I don’t see the problem with that

Wilhelmina and Ianthe are the two that stick out in my memory that I’m glad I never picked. I’m still mot sure how Ianthe is actually meant to be pronounced.
I was also convinced in my teenage goth phase that my hypothetical future daughter was definitely going to be called Ebony.

I think the names we did actually pick for my dc have struck a nice balance of classic but uncommon so far. I am biased though 😬

@Ipsevenenabibasi wanted Angelica but DH said no.

He was right to say no!

I googled the name at the time and the first image that came up was a fat middle aged bald guy who looked demented and it instantly and eternally put me off the name!
