Unhinged baby names you considered for your children when pregnant…

What were they?
i have two girls, and I’m a fan in different names - but not made up names, IYKWIM.

when I was pregnant with my first I watched Moulin Rouge, and for quite a while I was convinced that Satine would be the perfect name, but my partner said no.
my second I was desperate for Vivienne, which in in itself is a gorgeous name, but combined with Satine seemed to follow a trend of ‘ladies of the night’ (pretty women) so my partner said no again.

whats the most out there names you considered for your children?

my top boys name was Moss. Not sure I’d have gone through with it.

I kind of like Moss, I think because I love the it crowd.

Those of you who considered names like Horatio, Persephone, Ptolemy, Cassius.. I’m assuming you knew they’d go to very posh schools? 😳 I can’t imagine how they’d be taken in normal settings.

Arcadia for a girl, Flint for a boy

Flint!! 🤣🤣🤣 Another random noun as a name! Those crack me up, especially.

You could have had another one and called it Chalk. 🤭 Or Limestone. Or Granite. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Thepitt113 · 14/05/2026 00:52

When pregnant I was really into a lot of viking/Anglo-Saxon shows and history. I really liked the name Aethelfled, but no one would be able to spell it (even me 😂). I went for a very popular, ordinary name in the end!

Rex

I wanted to call DD Evan or James as a girl's name 😫

Rex! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 He'd have been called Tyrannosaurus and everyone would have done little-arm movements!

Jamie is a girl's name as well as a boy's.

Evan isn't a name, it's a surname.

The Horatio I knew was at Eton, and he still felt the need to call himself Dave.

Axl for a boy

My friend has a 6 month old Clementine. Clemmie normally. Shes adorable. I did a double take at first but I’m used to it now and she suits it.

I know it's a proper name, but all I can think of is the fruit.

If she has a Clementine, she really needs to have another named Grapefruit or Lemon.

Endgamenow · 14/05/2026 01:01

Lol I still love Pegasus but I'm to old to produce a son (victim) to bestoe the name to 😂🫣 silus always sounded like a strong manly man name .my son is called the most boring name ever after his dad .took hours of persuading to convince me

Pomegranate goes well with Clementine

@WheretheFishesareFrightening

i find it odd for a girl, definitely a boys name and the person I think of in that awful comedian Roy Chubby Brown, don’t burden a little girl with that name

It’d be a middle name, it’s a family name and I really love the idea of a male middle name since I met a girl when I was fifteen with the middle name Peter and I thought it was the coolest thing ever.

Thank God this power has been taken away from you, is all I can say! Kids would have galloped around in the playground to tease him, and called him Peggy!!!

Are you sure it wasn't the German female name, Peta? I had a friend who was friends with a Peta, and my friend always pronounced it Peter, instead of Petta, how it's meant to be. Irritated the tits off me.

Endgamenow · 14/05/2026 01:06

Pegasus could have had a very strong tough brother called silus who would defend his family name and a sister called Dollyjane who would run away crying 😂

Omg! 🤣 Please, please just write a children's book and get all this out of your system! Still, I suppose it doesn't matter now that you can't inflict this monstrous imagination on any actual children. I suppose if you ever have a grandson, you could randomly call him Pegasus, and be dotty old Granny!

Endgamenow · 14/05/2026 01:14

I have grandchildren with lovely names that I have either rearranged to make a new one or bestowed a nick name on them .one is called fast Eddie ,one is cryalina and another is leaf ...don't ask 😂

WearyLady · 14/05/2026 01:14

Isis. Back I the 90s. We didn’t know how the world would turn out. Thank goodness we had boys!

Endgamenow · 14/05/2026 01:16

I would probley have gone exotic and called the child eyesis 👀

BoogieVoogieAllNightLong · 14/05/2026 01:18

One of my boys was going to be Jade if he was a girl, some time before it became insanely popular. Glad he was a boy.

Another was going to be Angel. I still kind of like it but I think it's a lot to live up to. He was a boy anyway.

Endgamenow · 14/05/2026 01:19

Angel would have to meet a partner with the surname delight or cake just to top it off

MaySheWillStay · 14/05/2026 01:21

Apparently I was nearly called Fleur: my mother read The Forsyte Saga when she was pregnant with me.

I’ve never met a Fleur but I do know a Rex and a Rupert.

I also LOVE Sapphire but it gets a unanimous thumbs down whenever I mention it. I still think it's beautiful though.

I love all the gemstone names. I especially adore Crystal, but it's been emphatically vetoed.

Stan for short! It's cute.

Is it really that different from other nature noun names like Viola, Willow, Summer? Or even another rock name like Ruby or Jade?

I see people make fun of the name Wren, but it's exactly the same as Paloma which means dove. Or Suzume, a Japanese name meaning sparrow.

If someone is not a fan of Biblical names, the pool really decreases.
