We are a kind and welcoming group supporting each other in our daily tasks to organize and declutter and stay on top of all that needs doing. We share our accomplishments and brain dump our to-do lists in a friendly chat over coffee manner. 😊☕️

Thanks @Mumtobabyhavoc 😊

FourSeasonsLobelia · 12/05/2026 16:33

Springing into the next thread! Thanks @Mumtobabyhavoc

I come fresh from the car launderette. But 'twas shut so my car is still living up to it's name of 'The Wheelie Bin'.

FourSeasonsLobelia · 12/05/2026 16:34

Gosh Thread 10! A testament to our very own Most Esteemed @WinterFrogs who persevered in the early days when it was tumbleweeds at times. Thanks

I echo our Equally Esteemed @Mumtobabyhavoc ... we are a friendly bunch and love newbies.

Peridot1 · 12/05/2026 16:48

Thanks for the new thread @Mumtobabyhavoc!

Cant believe we are up to number 10. Although I do feel if I actually remembered I was meant to be getting things done I might be a lot more organised……

@WinterFrogs - I’m dizzy reading what you achieved today! That’s a LOT.

I have had a PT session at the gym, did some laundry and organised some furniture collection as new furniture is arriving. One lot is going to the British Heart Foundation and the other sofas are being collected by the council as they are too tatty to be sold. New furniture for the living room will arrive on Monday. Sofas to replace the too tatty ones are not ordered yet…. Was plannning on some Ikea sofas but DH noticed they claim to be “extra soft” which isn’t ideal. So back to the drawing board. And they need to be here by June 5th…..

Weather is better today so got a few hours in the garden. Still lots to do. My new toy arrived and I almost broke it within ten minutes. It’s a mini rotavator and I managed to get a big stone stuck in it. Thankfully DH managed to get it out. But it did make digging over the bed much easier.

WinterFrogs · 12/05/2026 18:25

It's all go at your house too @Peridot1! You are hosting something in June I think? I am able to do mine with no pressure luckily. Fortunately I am quite happy doing it and will just manage what i can. I've had to apply bio-freeze to my neck and shoulder as I think I'm starting to seize up. Hoping to be fit to do another hour tomorrow. And maybe the gardening muscles will get stronger and I'll be able to do more.

I love this thread too! I can't believe weve been going so long.

I hope you enjoyed your hot latte @Mumtobabyhavoc!

@FourSeasonsLobelia what a pair we are with our mobile wheelie bins! Mine mainly contains dried mud, hay and shavings now. I'm looking forward to getting it clean (it also got splatted with seagull poo today)

Home Fires ( mentioned on last thread) is really nice viewing. I have collapsed in a heap now. DH is washing up.

Looking forward to old and new projecters joining us 💕

Hugs all round ☕️ 🍰

RunningKatie · 12/05/2026 20:59

Home Fires is good viewing, I totally agree. Springwatch starts soon and I'm looking forward to that, our baby robins have all fledged which is lovely.

We are thankfully not doing GCSEs this year but next, first we need to survive a week of work experience.

Work is tricky at the moment, many resignations of lovely people, I had a small cry tonight whilst dh looked on in bafflement.

Stairs hoovered, washing machine loaded, lunches made for tomorrow. I need to fix the shoe rack (again) and have another drink - the winter germs keep fighting back. It's still cold enough here to need a winter coat, May likes to catch me out.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 12/05/2026 21:26

Winter, do you have a TENS? It helps me a lot.

Morning all. I’m grumpy at the weather again. Feels like 5 degrees outside apparently. Wind is blowing right off the fields at the back so not sure I want to do anything in the garden. And it’s due to rain this afternoon. Might wrap up and go for a walk and see if that helps me feel less of a grump.

@WinterFrogs - yes we are hosting a village bbq in mid June. So the perfectionist in me wants everything done inside and out before then. DH keeps saying people won’t notice or care but I do! And the local wealthy couple with the biggest house and land (and lots of staff!) are coming……. Think local landowners.

Today’s list:

  • walk
  • laundry
  • kitchen tidy
  • snagging list for painter
  • sort piles for furniture charity collection tomorrow
  • towel wash
  • sort pictures out to decide what goes roughly where in hall, stairs and landing
  • clean said pictures
  • get dates for painter to come and finish plus sort snagging and put blinds back up on landing

Have a good day all.

WinterFrogs · 13/05/2026 10:44

I last used one of those when I was in labour @Mumtobabyhavoc! Might be worth trying again, although I'm relieved to say that I am pain free today.

Almost forgot to take the car to the laundrette but luckily our @BerfyTigot mentioned her car is also in a state on our our last thread (which is no longer taking replies) so that reminded me. Thanks Berfy 😊

I will look out for Spring Watch @RunningKatie Last time I watched it I was doing an awake but not actually doing anything night job and it was perfect for the 4am till 6am bit when it was particularly hard to stay awake. I've just looked it up - must have been one of the live cameras on the red button. Think it was the 2023 one.

Sorry about the work situation 😔

Right, off to sort my car out and another hour in the garden too. It's been raining but the sun has come out now. Quite windy. Bin men came today so I took advantage and got some grot out of the shed to save going to the tip with it. Nothing recyclable.

Best get to it! Have a great day everyone 😊

petalpower · 13/05/2026 10:49

I’ve found you all! I thought we were getting close to needing a new thread. What a lovely kind and supportive area of MN this is.
It seemed to take me a long time to get back on top of things at home after our 10 day break. The washing was never ending!
Yesterday’s extra jobs were going to the garden centre to buy some geraniums and trailing plants for my pots and hanging basket and having a good scrub with bleach at all the horrid areas of the shower, especially around the door and seals. The plants were so expensive and I think next year I’m going to get some plug plants and grow them on.
Today I need to mop all the hard floors, pick up a prescription, change DS’s bed and swap my winter and summer clothes. It’s still feeling very chilly here but the forecast for next week looks better. Hopefully no more frosts as I’ve been covering my potatoes over with fleece each night in the vegetable garden.

WinterFrogs · 13/05/2026 10:54

Hello @Peridot1 we cross posted! Argh that would be too much for me, though I do agree with your DH. I grew up with landed gentry. It is true that their furniture is more battered and their carpets more threadbare than anyone else's. My parents were all for throwing the place wide open for guests visitors random people though. Siblings and I have gone quite the other way. One is a hoarder and a hermit too. I'm a sociable ( outside the house) minimalist. I expect a psychoanalyst would make something of that.

Anyway, you are a brave woman dear @Peridot1 and I hope it goes well. And you will have a glorious home and garden as a reward 💕

WinterFrogs · 13/05/2026 10:56

Aand again with the cross posting - this time out @petalpower! Hello! Glad you found us 😊

WinterFrogs · 13/05/2026 12:52

Made it to the car laundrette. Also have made smug soup and been to tesco to recycle batteries and get £4.08 from their cash converter machine.

Nice!

I think i might take a twin photo when i go to the car laundrette tomorrow now. Smile

I am making smug ratatouille.

I admire your summer village festivities @Peridot1 . I always want to host but then get intimidated by the thought!

Waves to everyone.

Peridot1 · 13/05/2026 17:14

I definitely wasn’t brought up anywhere near landed gentry @WinterFrogs. Although great grandparents etc were in service or farm labourers on one side and dockers on the other!

I really should take our car to the car laundrette too. Maybe next week. We have one in a local shopping centre where you leave the car so I could go for a coffee and do some shopping. Multi tasking you see.

@petalpower - plants are so expensive. DH got some plug plants while I was in Australia and has been diligently growing them on in the greenhouse. I’m fussy about colour though so although he says they are colours I like they might not be!

@FourSeasonsLobelia - we hosted a big village bbq three years ago which was catered after DH and a few other from the village drunkenly bid for it at a charity event. So it was a joint effort and I didn’t need to worry about the food. This one is a bit different as not catered but still a joint effort with the same other people so not all the pressure is on us. I will get intimidated and nervous closer to the time!

teachyourself · 13/05/2026 17:40

Hello again all waves

I've been catching up with the old thread (triathlons! faints just thinking about it) and thought I should actually post again.

Having serious car laundrette envy. One of the surprising things I miss, as where I live now you are not allowed to stay in your car while it gets laundered 😭 My inner child is very sad about this.

My overall to do list has had some things taken off it, some things added, and some things have just been hanging around on it sigh My main one for the rest of tonight is to do a laundry load as I'm going away for a few days and some of the things I want are still in the wash basket. Also would like to clean the cooker hob as it's not exactly shining as it should. Currently in a café drinking a coffee though, need to move and finish the food shopping first.

edit For some reason it has used a different username to usual. This is actually crivit.

petalpower · 13/05/2026 21:05

I’m exactly the same about plant colours @Peridot1 ! We live in an old painted farmhouse with a cottage garden. I really don’t like anything too bright or spiky and very much go for soft pastel colours with a traditional feel.
Welcome back crivit!

WideOpenBeaches · 14/05/2026 07:06

Morning all

Thanks for crispy and clean thread @Mumtobabyhavoc. It’s beautiful ☺️

I used to live in an old rambly house with large rambly cottage garden and we only opened it once. We had only been there a couple of years and the ground elder was rampant throughout these long borders. I was utterly exhausted by the end. Kudos to you for doing it @Peridot1

DM loves opening her garden up for the local village open day. She transferred 50 years of garden knowledge and 3 acres of proper garden into a tiny garden.

People pour down her garden path and ask her loads of gardening questions which she loves answering. I think she loves the attention.
In fact I KNOW she practically basks in it…!

I’m quite concerned about her there on her own in the garden with general public milling about so I’m going over to keep an eye on her and the house in a few weeks time.

Love the car launderette idea 😆. I took mine to the DIY jet wash place and then it rained a day later 😥. Ho hum.

Didnt do too well yesterday. Had to cancel a morning meet up for these volunteers that I attempt to herd as - despite all 8 being as keen as mustard to do this - backed out. I was not happy.

Started the ironing. Brown gunge coming out of iron. Attempted to clean it and gave up after billowing smoke came out and set fire alarm off. New one arriving today.

In an effort to make something of the morning I booked myself onto a lunchtime strength training class… then realised I was going to Zumba in the evening.

Came home, had lunch. Got SO engrossed in re planning my utility room and missed a beauty appointment.

Went to Zumba but 20 mins in, my arms and legs forgot to coordinate. Luckily in back row, so as long as you shuffle left when everyone else does… you avoid a collision…usually ☺️

Going to keep it simple today.

Just meet up with mentee. Drink coffee. Listen.
Anything else will be a bonus.

Peridot1 · 14/05/2026 07:51

@petalpower - I like pink, purple, white, vivid greens, blues and some pops of red or orange strategically. Not keen on yellow depending on what it’s with. DH just wants a mish mash of colours. He’s bought geraniums - fine if they are red or white. Petunias - hmm - could be a mish mash. And nicotiana which also could be a mish mash. Also not sure where they are all going to go!

@crivit - welcome back.

@WideOpenBeaches - oh we are just having a bbq. Not an open garden. Although obviously it will (hopefully) be in the garden!

I got up early as charity collection is any time from 7am. However I’ve been awake since 2.45……. When DH appears I may go back to bed.

Today’s list:

  • usual kitchen/dishwasher
  • laundry
  • vacuum living room once sofas have gone
  • move a sofa from sitting area off kitchen to living room temporarily
  • move new bookcase into position in living room
  • decide on light switches and sockets for kitchen/dining/sitting areas
  • chase quote and dates from painter for rest of work
  • order new sofas for sitting area off kitchen
  • possible garden centre trip

And definitely a nap! Have a great day all.

WinterFrogs · 14/05/2026 08:06

Rambling cottages and cottage gardens do sound lovely!
Hello again @teachyourself lovely to see you!
We'll all be doing a sun dance for your bbq day @Peridot1 😊 I hope you get the chance to go back to bed for a bit. I've made it to sitting on the bed now. Need to shower and off to an appointment shortly. @WideOpenBeaches sorry about your volunteers. That is such a shame!
I had the same thing with my steam iron. Had to nip out and get a new one on the morning of a wedding recently. I have just learned that if you put small electrical items like that on top of the green recycling bin, the binmen will take them. That is handy as i used to just nip into the tip on my way past, but now we have to book a half hour slot. Which needs to be worthwhile as round here it's a maximum of four bookings a month. I'm fairly certain that there will be more fly tipping round here as a result, or people putting recyclable stuff in their landfill bin. I was tempted to bin the iron, but didn't 😇 Flytipping is already a problem around here.

I have brought home some bits and bobs from the horse place to clean this afternoon. I also need a good rummage in the freezer. Ooh, and I just cleaned a shelf in the mug/tea/coffee cupboard while the kettle boiled <smug>

I hope you all have a lovely day ❤️

FourSeasonsLobelia · 14/05/2026 13:19

Your gardens all sound lovely.

I made a stab at a formal garden with ours. But actually rpefer a cottage garden and when I have some spare cash plan to fill in some of our sparser flower beds.

In the meantime though.... my twin photo to @WinterFrogs photo from the car laundrette.

Daily Project Round 10
WinterFrogs · 14/05/2026 14:56

I love the twin photo @FourSeasonsLobelia!

Gardens....I am glad I have been proceeding with caution with just secateurs as I have just unearthed an old wooden drawer, and it was sheltering slow worms ❤️ I have put it back! I disturbed a toad yesterday. I need to just keep mad bramble fronds at bay in the wild area otherwise it really will take over the whole garden. Will need to do a proper clear up over autumn/winter I suppose. I can't have it going completely wild but I'm hoping if I work slowly it'll give the inhabitants time to move house safely. Time to look at books/videos about that. Any recommendations?

Odds and ends dinner tonight. Luckily DH is thrilled just to get fed. It shall be wholesome.

I hung washing on the line in the sunshine. Within ten minutes it was raining so brought it in and put it on to tumble dry. And now the sun is out again 🙄

Right, off to see what I can do with those odds and ends that is not soup!

petalpower · 14/05/2026 16:30

Our weather has been just the same @WinterFrogs ! It’s cold too. Today’s temperature was 11C max - chilly!
Not much achieved today, just menu planning for next week, online supermarket grocery shopping and ironing. I’m lacking in motivation and just want to sit on the sofa with tea and biscuits!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 14/05/2026 22:31

Not much to share today. Was up around 6; out of bed around 7:30 🙄
Need to do laundry, clean bathroom, wash sheets, vacuum and wash floors. Not motivated.

Peridot, I remember when you hosted that party.

Our weather is the sane this way. It has gotten up to 15c but there are a lot of very dark clouds.

Like Petal suggested i'm on the couch scrolling after 2 pieces lemon poppyseed cake. 🙄
I agree with Lobelia that everyone's gardens sound very nice. I need to get into mine. I last looked at the lavender two weeks ago and turned over the topsoil. Keen and kind gardener neighbour has since spread fertilizer for me and advised me the rosemary looks ragged and the mint needs to be cut as has taken over (I know!!!!).
It sounds like you have hard-water and didn't drain your iron before putting it away Beaches. I iron so seldom now that the last time I did I decided a short-cut of ironing something on a towel on the rug would be okay. It was fine until the iron touched the rug and sort of singe-melted it. Luckily the rug is short pile and dark - and old and cheap. It's a small bit and not really noticeable unless you go looking for it. 🫣

In the smug soup category: I roasted the bones saved from this week's lamb chops to make broth and will freeze it. I want to make a soup with carrots, potatoes, barley and Swiss chard, so that will be after next week's shopping. I meant to go to the grocery store for those items as I only need small amounts, but did a Costco run instead and am not keen to go to another shop since it's coming up to a holiday weekend here (Victoria Day).
I've just made broth from the bones from the rotisserie chicken I picked up for lunch, so am on a roll, I guess. 😂 Also managed to drop off a box of the kids' outgrown clothes, but I think another purge needs to be done.

I've now moved to the bedroom for a lie-down. 😂
