We are a kind and welcoming group supporting each other in our daily tasks to organize and declutter and stay on top of all that needs doing. We share our accomplishments and brain dump our to-do lists in a friendly chat over coffee manner. 😊☕️

Winter, my vote would be to box the books up and take them to a charity or used bookshop. Reason is so much time is spent trying to decide that it never gets done and holds up progress on getting rid of other things. That's why I don't try and sell anything. I just finally make peace with something no longer needed and put it out for city pick-up, take to recycling or drop at charity. Just a thought.

Morning all.

Sorry, not online yesterday. DS did his exam and is now off for half term. yay!

My father called and my mother has to have unexpected open-heart surgery. They are in Australia. I am not. DS is doing exam,s DH is working away. I am not sure if I have to make the trip, we are due to go anyway in 5 weeks.I will find out more in the next day or so about timings and if they need me there. I want to go, but both parents are saying 'hold fire'.

Today will NOT be an alcohol-free day.

FourSeasonsLobelia · 22/05/2026 08:39

But on a brighter note- it's a lovel day out there and I am meeting a friend for lunch.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Peridot1 · 22/05/2026 09:00

That’s stressful @FourSeasonsLobelia. I know you want to be there but actually it may be more sensible to wait a bit until she is home and needs practical help. Assuming your dad is ok. I know when my dad had a bypass I did go home but mainly as my mum needed practical help and support. And in fact ended up in hospital herself when I was there. It’s so hard being so far away though isn’t it?

Today’s plans are mainly garden related. We are having our neighbours over tomorrow for a bbq and the patio is definitely not summer ready. I need to finish prepping the last bed along the patio so that we can plant the plants and then move everything and power wash the area. Furniture needs washing first. Pots need moving. And I have a pt session mid morning. About to cover myself in suncream and get started.

Have a lovely Friday all. Hope it’s sunny 🌞.

SingleThreadJoiner2 · 22/05/2026 10:23

Gosh. Sending strength @FourSeasonsLobelia . It's one of the worst things about emigrating. The sunshine is lovely, and I plan to exploit it to try and bleach out stains from my D's white school tops. They are a disgrace!

Also need to get ready for a work trip starting Monday evening - I'm parenting solo until Monday so I need to get as much as possible sorted while D is still at school today. It's going to be a loooong BH weekend...

petalpower · 22/05/2026 11:01

That’s really difficult @FourSeasonsLobelia . Hope your mum is doing ok. Sending love to you.

FourSeasonsLobelia · 22/05/2026 11:10

Thank you all. Thanks

She was sounding quite chipper. She recently changed consultants (the previous one was fairly disinterested) and she just said that if she was with the old one she'd likely be dead by July. Which is true it seems.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 22/05/2026 23:08

Lobelia, sending love and support you and your family. 💐🩷 It's so hard not living close. I think I forgot you were Aussie. 🤔
Hope this brings a smile: I've taught my kids to say, Cheers Big Ears. (I spent some time Down Under in a past life) 😉

I'd forgotten that phrase! My dad says it.

Thanks xx

WinterFrogs · 23/05/2026 07:36

Love to you and yours @FourSeasonsLobelia 💐

Best wishes to all!

RunningKatie · 23/05/2026 11:55

Hope your mum is ok @FourSeasonsLobelia - sounds tough to be so far away.
Dc1 nearly done with work experience, today and tomorrow then it's over. It hasn't been a disaster, so I'm counting it as a win. Could have been so much worse!
This morning I've hung the washing out, emptied the dishwasher, cleaned the windows of dog nose prints, cleaned outside table, taken dc2 out for breakfast and tried on some new clothes.
Feels quite productive really! Now I need to hit the motorway to go and visit my mother with long suffering dc2. Lucky kid!
Happy unseasonably glorious bank holiday weekend all.

Peridot1 · 23/05/2026 12:19

Morning all. Gorgeous sunny day today. Sympathies to those of you who don’t like the heat though.

A bit of a slow start this morning. Plans to be out in the garden or doing the supermarket run before 8 fell through as I didn’t wake up till almost 9.

When I finally felt awake enough I went out to plant the plants into the second bed along the patio. Did two and gave up as way too hot. Did a bit of a tidy up.

Yesterday DH did some pressure washing and I washed down our outside sofa set. This morning DH put it all together and got the cushions out and put up the umbrella.

So we are pretty set for neighbours coming over this evening for a bbq.

I just went to empty the dishwasher but it hadn’t been on last night so now waiting for that to finish. Need to clean and tidy kitchen. Go to the supermarket. Clear off dining table and tidy dining area. And make a few salads for later. Have some washing to hang up also. And all I really want to do is sit outside in the shade of the umbrella and read…….

Have a great Saturday all.

WinterFrogs · 23/05/2026 13:45

Well done @RunningKatie's dc 👏 Big learning curve for them.

Have a lovely evening with your friends @Peridot1.

We went for a long walk this morning and stopped for a coffee on the way home. DH is at cricket now and I am in my lovely shaded garden with music in my ears and a book ( many children round my way and they are lovely but noisy do the headphonesate vital) Payback for our noisy years...Funnily enough i can hear the birds but not the kids!

No intention of doing anything but the basics this weekend. @Mumtobabyhavoc I am so very nearly minimalist and have given away many many books, but I am on a low spend 'economy drive' and some of them I probably will read ( they belonged to my parents) instead of buying more. But on the basis of the low spend, maybe I will declutter some other things and use the space made for the books.

Littlest is off at water park today and I am sure it will be packed! This is where being a grandparent is preferable 😎

SingleThreadJoiner2 · 23/05/2026 14:07

Operation Bleach School Tops was successful! The combination of bleach soak, vanish, and direct sunshine was too much even for my D's collection of stains. Very glad to have rescued them!

We are having a low key time after the usual Saturday morning activities - had pizza out and now D is reading one of her library books in the park (we only have a tiny garden but live across the road from a park so basically use that as the garden). H has been away since Wednesday and not back until Monday night, I don't know how active we will be the rest of the weekend.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 23/05/2026 21:34

Loving everyone's news today. Happy Long Weekend to all of you! 🤗

How nice to have your parents' books, Winter. 🩷 I can see why you don't want to part with them.

It's cloudy and about 18c atm here. I was up early for Havoc's activity and we just finished pancakes with strawberries and banana for brunch - and two iced lattes for me.
I've got another mountain of laundry to do as well as the usual vacuuming & wash floors. 🙄

And the garden beckons...🙈

I finally got into the garden. Kind and very keen gardener neighbour had been in it and chopped back the mint and cleaned it up. I was a lot more ruthless, though, and hacked at least 75% of the mint back.

And now, goodnight. ☺️🩷

I can't claim any achievements myself, but this morning D decided she needed to organise and tidy her bathroom... And she did! We threw away a few expired meds and empty boxes and she gave surfaces a wipe. I was impressed - certainly doesn't get it from me 😂

FourSeasonsLobelia · 24/05/2026 18:22

I am impressed @SingleThreadJoiner2 !

DS1 made chocolate chip cookies today. I was tired and told him if he can read English he can read a recipe and to wake me up from my nap when they were ready.

he made a lovely batch of cookies. Then proudly told me he had 'cleaned up'. Indeed.... he had carefully used the sponge and kitchen cleaner.. wiping around the broken egg shells and the messy wooden sppon etc, all of which were left on the bench. Grin

I didn't have the heart to tell him cleaning up means putting stuff in bins. That will be another gentle lesson tomorrow.

The cookies were lovely though and he was very proud of himself.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 25/05/2026 04:59

Send some of those cookies my way please, Lobelia! Your son sounds lovely. 😋

Havoc has had one recipe on repeat for about 5 months: manicoka. 🤷‍♀️😂

WinterFrogs · 25/05/2026 09:27

I am impressed too @SingleThreadJoiner2!

Also about the cookies @FourSeasonsLobelia 😊

Very lazy bank holiday happening here. I started today early and got the routines done. Otherwise no plans at all for the day. It's still cool in the shady parts of the garden. I came over all Australian and had windows and curtains open overnight and closed them this morning so I'm hoping the house stays cool.

It's quite a while since i had no responsibilities at all for a whole day and I intend to make the most of it.

That'll jinx it....maybe I should turn my phone off 🙊

I hope you all have a lovely day ☀️ 💕

SingleThreadJoiner2 · 25/05/2026 09:49

Hello all, I started strong with laundry, dishwasher, washing up and easy pancakes for breakfast, but now D is having screen time while I catch up with admin...

petalpower · 25/05/2026 10:04

I’m trying to get jobs done before it gets too hot:

  • petaldog has been for an early short walk
  • two loads of washing done and on the line
  • garden watered
  • sweetcorn and butternut squash planted out in the veg garden
  • bread maker on for dough to make rolls for bbq later
We came back from a 48 hour oldies trip yesterday so need a bit of a house catch up too.
Peridot1 · 25/05/2026 10:15

Morning all.

Hot hot hot here.

We were at village duck race yesterday which was lovely. Have promised to go to hosts house this morning to help clear up. They have the most stunning big garden so we need to dismantle gazebos and move garden furniture around and haul a wheelie bin of bottles back to a house across the road from us.

Other than that I think it will be a quiet day. Need to water plants. Should plant but I think it will be too hot. Planning of getting up early tomorrow morning to do that. Might do a quick garden centre run to buy a couple of plants I need.

Then I’m planning on reading my book in the shade all afternoon.

Have a great bank holiday all.

RunningKatie · 25/05/2026 10:36

I'm sitting in the shade, dog at my feet. We've done a walk, the washing is spinning and then that can go out. Then I'm going to strip our bed and wash the mattress and pillow protectors.
Dh is off to the supermarket, our new fridge freezer has settled in nicely but needs re-stocking!
He's off tomorrow too which I'm very envious of.

WinterFrogs · 26/05/2026 06:53

Hello! Here we go again - another warm one 🥵
I remember you mentioning the duck race last year @Peridot1 Village life does sound fun!
We kept it simple yesterday and spent most of it relaxing in the garden in the shade. It was still cooler inside though with curtains and windows closed. We are quite well insulated unlike the new houses going up all around us.
Are you working from home or in the office today @RunningKatie?
How was the bbq @petalpower?
I hope everyone can stay cool whatever they are doing today. DH is in the office today and praying that they have fixed the air con. It was stuck on for a while when it was cold, and had stopped completely last week so they might cook in the heat today. He's just left so I'm going to get on with routines while it's cool.
I'm out and about all morning so thank goodness for air conditioning in the car.

So very British - a whole post about the weather 😆

Hope you all have a good day ❤️
