Morning all.

Already this morning I have:

  1. Tidied kitchen
  2. Made the bed
  3. Put on a washing load
  4. Fed the cats
  5. Fed the pond fish
  6. Cleaned out the litter trays and refilled them
  7. Swept and mopped the floors
  8. Watered the patio pots.

Now I am about to head to the post office to post some things to DH who is still in London working away and go to Aldi.

I confess I love the heat! Hope everyone has a great day and stays cool and comfy. Thanks.

WinterFrogs · 26/05/2026 07:46

Go you @FourSeasonsLobelia! That's definitely a racing start 🌟
Yesterday I did see the allure of the heat a bit - in that it's nice to relax in it, given the right conditions ( ie not working outside in it like I used to) I don't really enjoy my volunteering with the horses in this weather, although the lack of mud is a plus. The horses are still gorgeous but it's all sweat and flies there at the moment. Poor things, though they are well seen to with fly rugs, fly masks, fly spray, sun cream on the ones with pink noses, and just about enough shade. Most of them enjoy a wash down if it's really hot too.

petalpower · 26/05/2026 10:00

The bbq was lovely thank you @WinterFrogs .
We are out this afternoon so I’m trying to get jobs done this morning before it gets unbearably hot.

FourSeasonsLobelia · 26/05/2026 10:45

Aaah you have triggered a memory @WinterFrogs . My first pony was a Connemara. He had a pink nose and I used to put coloured sunscreen on him. I usually chose bright pink. And he had a pink rug.

Today I have paid some invoices and managed to both lock and unlock myself out of my online banking account. Now I am about to tidy upstairs. I am feeling very active which is unusual.

FourSeasonsLobelia · 26/05/2026 10:47

DS1 is revising upstairs. I have just heard him exclaim; 'Oh GO AWAY YOU BLOODY FLY!!!!!'.

He's not a big fan of the heat

SingleThreadJoiner2 · 26/05/2026 14:14

I love the idea of horse sunscreen!

I have been travelling across Europe by train today (for a work trip). Not to give too much outing detail, but started with the Eurostar to Brussels this morning, then on to Germany with a very comfortable train, and one more local connection after that. All very civilised!

I'll be back on Saturday, ready to celebrate my birthday 🎂

D being wrangled off to various holiday clubs since my H can't take the time off.

autumnangel · 26/05/2026 19:37

Hello all, it's been a while! Same old same from me over here. Overwhelmed and still drowning. I've had a really rubbish few days but I can feel myself coming out the other side now thankfully. I had planned to get a takeaway as I was being super lazy but then gave myself a stern talking to and went to Aldi instead. Came home and remembered I have no clean dishes. So that's not been fun. The house is an absolute riot and it just can't continue. Tonight I need to have a proper good reset. I have wrote myself a list and I'm setting a clock for 2 hours. If I can get it all done in that time I'm going to reward myself with a frozen Tunnocks teacake (I've never froze one before so really looking forward to it!) I shall report back soon!

autumnangel · 26/05/2026 22:21

Ok so it's been 2 hours and I've not done everything I want to do, but for once I've been distracted productively 😀There's a grassy area across the road from my house and the weeds have been driving me mad for weeks now. I've been anxious about doing it, mainly because I don't really know what I'm doing and I didn't want anyone to judge my weed skills 🙄 Anyway I went out and done it tonight. Proud of myself!
Back to the original to do list now. Clock set for an hour and I plan to be in bed munching my teacake then...

autumnangel · 26/05/2026 23:52

To do list complete! Took the teacake out the freezer but it had defrosted by the time I went to eat it. I'll need to try again tomorrow.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 27/05/2026 03:01

@autumnangel nice to see you pop in. Good for you getting your tasks done. 👏

I finally vacuumed. It was over-due, so I did a bit extra: bedroom window sill, window tracks and screen, curtains, closet and baseboard; floor in the hall linen/everything closet; took cushions off one couch and got into the crevices by standing on the couch deck * to open the space 💡and then cleaned the fridge out, wiped the shelves, tied up the garbage and made dinner.

*Google told me the deck is the base under the couch cushions. 😁🤷‍♀️

FourSeasonsLobelia · 27/05/2026 06:24

Morning all.

Not much to say here. I went out with a friend last night and when I came back the DCs had messed up my nice tidy kitchen by making cookies. Of course I was enthusiastic about it. Grin

I'm about to start the plant watering.

autumnangel · 27/05/2026 09:15

Gosh @Mumtobabyhavoc I'm tired just reading that list, well done you!
@FourSeasonsLobelia hope the cookies tasting amazing and were worth the mess.

I've managed to complete my morning routine so I'm going to be leaving the house clean tidy when I go out today for the first time in a really long time. I have the day off work so I'm taking myself out on an adventure since the weather is still nice. Thankfully it seems like it's going to be a little cooler today which is perfect for me, I am absolutely no good in the heat.

Hopefully I'll have some energy left when I get back and I can report back that I've done a few extra jobs.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 27/05/2026 18:30

Autumn, it was a total of 10 extra minutes, I think. Writing it out makes it sound so. Very. Thorough. 😂.
But. That's what's great about this thread: it shows what a person can do quickly in little time. We used to talk about jobs we got done while we waited for the kettle. It really us motivating! I do a lot of things while I'm making dinner. 😂

@watchPhone - and the rest of you lovely lot - I cleared the cookies on my iPad about 10 days ago and don’t appear to be able to post under this username on it.

It’s still attached to my old or older username.
Still trying to figure it out 🤷🏼‍♀️

However I’ve been squinting at my phone and can keep the same persona on here if I use it.

I went down with a viral infection at the weekend. I won’t specify but taking a lot of meds and taking it easier this week.

Some great tales of your various projects… and that iced coffee @Mumtobabyhavoc looked LUSH. If I ever swing by your neighbourhood 😉 I may have to invite myself over.

So jobs I’ve done…

  • washed a load of winter jumpers
  • set my Power of Attorney up (not finished, but in motion)
  • sent a very old but much loved high quality moth eaten cashmere sweater for repair
  • figured out where a leak is coming from down into my kitchen. Or at least narrowed it down a bit…
  • girding my loins to sort out my study. I have new furniture and storage arriving in the next couple of weeks
  • also girding loins to assemble paperwork for accountant. I normally spin into a panic around the end of October.

Hope you’re all enjoying the weather. The temperatures is not sitting my optimum operating range at all! 🫠🫠🫠

watchPhone · 28/05/2026 16:31

Hello
bathroom guys here a week early so it is noisy and dusty here already. Thankfully it's much cooler. How come the second the bathroom is out of bounds everyone wants to use the loo 😄I have a banging headache with all the noise today. My 'while boiling the kettle' job is emptying the dishwasher and clearing of the worktops (usually condiments, tea towels and dirty cutlery 😄) It's become second nature now, as is moving from one room to another with my hands full of stuff.
Today

  • the 'chuck in the skip' list was finally put in action
  • SpiritDoggo is very distressed by all the noise and coming and going so is out on a long walk at the minute and is out at the groomers so will need to pick her up in an hour. She has got very matted legs after running in and out the lake the other day to keep cool.
  • we had a thunderstorm last night so the yard is looking very bedraggled so need to pick up some pot plants and washing that was draped over garden furniture that is now on the floor.
  • indoor plants need watering
  • I was opening the patio doors this morning and one of the screws on the bolt has come off so need to fix that otherwise locking back up later will be tricky
  • lots of deliveries coming today. We've had to go out and buy another toilet as the one we got wasn't suitable #grrrr - did that last night and that will arrive tomorrow.
  • there is absolutely no food in the house - slim pickings for tea I will shoot out to the shop when I get a break
  • my desk is out of bounds at the minute, so am working elsewhere on another untidy surface- maybe it's just me 😄So will tidy that up in a minute
It's taken me so long to write this its time to go get SpiritDoggo, have a good one, SoE
FourSeasonsLobelia · 28/05/2026 16:57

Loads of achievements here both on the thread and Chez Lobelia!

Ive spent a ridiculous amount of time today trying to order white goods and other goods from AO. AO has been brilliant and I am exceptionally impressed with their customer service, because I was a Very Difficult Customer thanks to my bank witholding payments due to fears about fraud and trying to be on one phone with AO and on another with DH who was shouting specs at me on speaker phone and then on a third phone with Lloyds fraud saying yes I really DID intend to make these payments. (Lloyds are jumpy because my card got cloned about a month ago).

It was all quite fraught but okay now.

Now I am about to cook chicken curry. There might well be a glass of wine in there too.

Peridot1 · 28/05/2026 17:06

Hi all

Been busy here with garden stuff and the decorator back. And dealing with the heat. I love it but don’t like gardening in it. Although to be fair I don’t love it this hot really. But I refuse to complain.

House is a mess. I keep escaping to the living room as it the only room that is not a mess. Decorator has been painting two walls in the sitting area off the kitchen. We did one wall in dark blue last year and decided to carry the colour further around. So we had to move furniture and lamps and the tv. He is also painting a sideboard unit from pale gray to dark green so everything from that is on the dining table. And he missed most of yesterday as he was in agony with a toothache. Was hoping he’d finish today. Can’t wait till it is all done.

Sympathy to you on your bathroom @watchPhone/SoJ. It will be worth it I’m sure but it’s always such a big job.

Off to empty dishwasher and fold up laundry and take laundry in and hang more up.

RunningKatie · 28/05/2026 20:24

Thank heavens it's Thursday evening. I am sitting supervising homework, 4 days till school goes back and dc1 has just noticed they have some. Bring back homework diaries! Everything being electronic makes it hard to check and me to chase up
Just put one of dc2's toys up for sale, it's got good resale value and I've said the proceeds are his so it's all been sorted this afternoon with zero effort from me.
I'm going to wipe down the inside of a kitchen cupboard as I emptied it earlier and it looks like someone shook a bottle of coke inside it. They haven't.....
The heat's gone a bit now, we had rain overnight and of course I'm at an outdoor event next week in predicted rain.

WinterFrogs · 29/05/2026 13:24

Hello all!

It's humid here and i am full of headache! I have been out in it with the horses. @SingleThreadJoiner2 the ones with white markings on their faces tend to have pink skin around their nostrils and lips which is prone to burning 😔 @FourSeasonsLobelia I have never seen coloured sun cream - I must have led a sheltered life. I did once have a lovely bubblegum scented horse shampoo though. We use a tea tree one for the horses here.

Your yesterday sounds complicated @FourSeasonsLobelia. And @RunningKatie argh to forgotten homework and yay to sold toy!

👋 @watchPhone you have such a lot going on but it will be worth it! And @Peridot1 too!

❤️ @autumnangel 💐 I hope you had a fun adventure!

I hope you are feeling better @WideOpenBeaches 💓

@petalpower and @teachyourself how are you doing?

Hello @Mumtobabyhavoc you are an exceptional multi tasker and I always enjoy your pictures ( especially the coffees!)

I'm in survival mode here. The heat is beginning to get to me. I have some work calls to make and then i plan to down tools, shower, and sit in the garden.

Peridot1 · 29/05/2026 16:42

That sounds like a Very Good Plan @WinterFrogs. Sorry the heat is getting to you. It’s definitely muggy today.

I have downed tools also. Was up early today and had the dishwasher emptied by 6.30. Did over an hour planting pots this morning with DH, followed by a PT session at the gym. Then a short nap after lunch. Then some pottering about in the garden and the house. We are going to the pub for dinner so will tidy the kitchen quickly in a minute and it will hopefully stay that way for a bit.

Just had a Next delivery and realised they delivered a Next delivery for someone in the next village so am about to hop in the car and drop it off. It’s 2 minutes away.

Have a lovely Friday all.

petalpower · 29/05/2026 16:45

All good here thanks @WinterFrogs . DH is away on a course for his hobby for a few days so it’s a bit quiet although adult DC are around. It’s very humid here too. We keep getting a handful of raindrops but nothing more and the cloud cover is making it feel quite oppressive. I’ve been for a hair cut and colour today and did a bit of a multitasking trip whilst out. TG Jones (WH Smith) is closing in our town so everything was at crazily reduced prices. I managed to get 20 packets of Christmas gift tags and ribbons for £4. As DH is spending ££ on his course I felt justified in a trip to Marks and Spencer to buy treats for tonight. One of my adult DC has quite a big life decision to make which is causing stress throughout the house so there is wine currently chilling to get me through another evening of discussions. There’s a lot of procrastination on their part and I’m trying hard to remain calm. I thought the early years of parenting were hard but now their problems just get bigger and more complicated.

WinterFrogs · 29/05/2026 17:10

Muggy and oppressive are definitely appropriate words @Peridot1 and @petalpower! I have got rid of the headache and it is beginning to cool down a little here.
DH wants to eat out tonight, and I really don't. So we're not. Not that I'm stopping him, you understand. He doesn't have to LT(controlling)B. But I have taken root under a tree and not moving nowhere!

He doesn't really mind. He's watching golf on the telly.

Agreed about the big kids @petalpower. Sympathy and solidarity. Mine are proper grown ups now but the flying the nest process went in fits and starts. I'm often a step or two behind.

Have fun in the pub @Peridot1 😊

FourSeasonsLobelia · 30/05/2026 06:57

I'm trying to remember the coloured sunscreen - it was that sort of zinc paste that cricketers put on their noses. Grin

Today I will do a classic Daily Project. Collect all the broken pots for the tip. Collect all the other plastic pots I don't need anymore and put them by the gate for anyone who wants them. Our tip is like The Hunger Games at weekends so I'll book a trip for a weekday.

Best wishes to all on our lovely thread. Thanks

Mumtobabyhavoc · 30/05/2026 07:31

Beaches, do we know you by another name? Forgive me if I've forgotten. That was quite a list. 👏 Re the lattes. Mine are iced and I use a hand-held milk frother. I've tried a few brands as they never last long. The one I am using now has a charger and I charge it every 5-7 days. It gets used for 2-4 drinks a day.

Sympathy to everyone struggling with the heat, including ponies and their poor noses! Who knew??? 🤷‍♀️ Since having kids I can't tolerate heat. Again, 🤷‍♀️

Lovely gesture to drop package off to correct addressee Peridot.
How's your mum, Lobelia?

Today I folded and put away the clean clothes and washed and hung up another load; washed sheets and made a bed; wiped two glass tables and a glass cabinet; dusted a lamp and side table; wiped down a small dresser and cleaned the mirrored drawers on it as was smeared with little hand prints; and took out the garbage. Also did work for Havoc's activity, made dinner and took the kids out for a drive to get gas for the car (down to $1.89/litre) and a short playground stop. Alarms 🙄 are set for morning, so I really should get to sleep. I'm so paranoid of over-sleeping that I set 4 alarms 5 mins apart yet I still have anxiety and have trouble falling asleep and worry I'll be even more tired because I'm still awake (!) and sleep through all the alarms. Which I never so. So, I routinely get about 5 hours of sleep Friday nights... it's ridiculous. I know. 🙄

Thnaks for asking @Mumtobabyhavoc Thanks

She has had all her pre-op testing some of which involved putting her under a general anaesthetic and they said she is in great shape for the actual operation. But not in good enough shape to be sent home from the hospital before the major op itself. So she is in hospital still and the date will most likely be Tuesday.

She and my father have insisted that I don't do the emergency dash now, but wait for when we were meant to go anyway as she will hopefully be on the mend and can really enjoy the trip with the DCs. So that's the game plan right now. With the caveat that if anything changes my father will tell me to drop everything and go there. It's such a tricky time with DH away and DS1 doing his GCSEs. DH can drop everything to come back if need be, of course, but if things end up being relatively routine then they prefer we stick to the original plan and have our summer holiday together as planned. (Well, not summer there of course).

I get an update twice a day by phone and she is in good cheer. She used to be a senior nurse so she is loving watching all the various procedures that they do on the screen (volunteered to be under sedation but awake for one so she could watch it herself, the mad woman).
