I felt humiliated today

At work today my manager brought us some treats in for Easter, I had a biscuit and was eating it on the shop floor, she actually told me off I felt like a naughty school girl, she told me to hide it, I felt so humiliated, this isn’t the first time she’s done things like this, is she bullying me?

Were there customers present?

TheVeloursImgonnaChangeNsoul · 04/04/2026 21:31

Best kept for behind the scenes.

pinenuts75 · 04/04/2026 21:31

Well yes but they were busy shopping minding their own business

What were the instructions? If you are not allowed to eat on the shop floor you don't. Take them home or eat in the lunch room or wherever off the shop floor.

swingingbytheseat · 04/04/2026 21:32

I would’ve done the same thing. It’s Easter.

TheHillIsMine · 04/04/2026 21:32

No, she's not bullying you. Why do you want us to say yes?

pinenuts75 · 04/04/2026 21:32

I’m not aware we have instructions

No asking for opinions

When I worked in a shop food was not permitted on the shop floor. Biscuits would have been put in the staff room and would have expected to have been eaten there.

Do you think your manager would have pulled up a colleague if it was them rather than you?

Shallotsaresmallonions · 04/04/2026 21:34

That's pretty normal to not be allowed to eat in front of customers. I don't think it's bullying for a manager to pull you up on that.

No she singles me out, I get the feeling she doesn’t like me much.

She may have thought it was obvious that you shouldn't eat on the shop floor

So the fact that it was a biscuit is irrelevant. A biscuit as opposed to what. A biscuit will still crumble on the floor.

pinenuts75 · 04/04/2026 21:36

I can understand if I was working on the till, but I wasn’t

No way should staff be eating on the shop floor. A biscuit or a sandwich

If you aren’t allowed to eat on the shop floor then I wouldn’t use this as an example of bullying. However, if you think she is unfairly singling you out for other indiscriminate reasons then you should keep a log so that you can take it further at some point if needs be.

Ncisdouble · 04/04/2026 21:37

It's really common rule not to eat on shop floor.... This is not bullying unless she saw others do it and only told you

Okay? Biscuits are still food that is eaten.

Yes, a biscuit you were eating on the shop floor in front of customers it is pretty common knowledge that is not allowed it is totally unprofessional.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 04/04/2026 21:38

In this particular instance, she was right as you cant eat on the shop floor

But i would watch myself around her and make sure theres nothing else she can pick at you about - she may well dislike you if she snapped x

pinenuts75 · 04/04/2026 21:38

I don’t really think it’s about the biscuit, to be honest I’m becoming very close to asking her outright if she actually likes me and wants me working there.

Are you saying that other staff were also eating biscuits on the shop floor, but she only singled you out? Otherwise, I think it’s pretty standard to require retail staff not to eat on the shop floor.

Jeska7 · 04/04/2026 21:40

Really unprofessional to be eating in a shop with customers around. Even if they’re “busy and wouldn’t notice”. Most people just wouldn’t do that surely. Eating in the staff room only. It’s not bullying.

I’m not sure why though, I work hard I believe, just lately she’s swapped my role, and says it’s working better, so I just don’t get it as far as I know she’s happy with my work, but maybe she just doesn’t like me for whatever reason.

This incident is 100% about the biscuit.
Was everyone else eating theirs and only you told not to?
I'm afraid you broke the rules and then act like you are being singled out for jo reason. Perhaps this is why you feel bullied. if you often ignore the rules and seem put out at being corrected she maybe is a little sharper with you!!
