What outrageously expensive household item would you buy if money were no object?

I'd like solid silver cutlery. I have actually considered getting a couple of place settings, just for me. Also, Herend porcelain but I am so accident-prone, I wouldn't dare.

What would you buy?

Probably a ridiculously pricey bathroom

onelumporthree · 28/02/2026 20:38

I'd like a dishwasher, but the kitchen isn't big enough, and the garden isn't big enough to extend the kitchen so I guess I'd just have to buy a bigger house first, then buy the dishwasher to go in it. 😂

Probably a self playing piano! Lovely tinkly music drifting through the house sounds like a dream. Although the worries if it turned itself on in the middle of the night could be terrifying!

I have solid silver cutlery (inherited) and it brings total joy!

A Japanese toilet that washes and dries your bum and plays sounds to hide ‘noises’.

LaurieFairyCake · 28/02/2026 20:44

Regency Chinese writing desk. There’s one keeps appearing in Bridgerton - absolutely lovely it

Balzac sofa, Matthew Hilton

Build in bookcases the height of my 12 foot room with library ladders on a brass rail. I would DIE for this

Meadowfinch · 28/02/2026 20:44

I'd settle for a new back door and the last two double glazed windows. I've been quoted £1,800 !

BreakfastOfWaffles · 28/02/2026 20:47

I would replace all my kitchenware with a full range of Le Creuset everything. Ooh, and one of those unnecessarily expensive hot chocolate velvetizers, plus a Smeg fridge.

ExcellentDaydream · 28/02/2026 20:48

I'd like an all mod cons garden room for my hobbies but sadly our garden isn't big enough.

Ramblingaway · 28/02/2026 20:48

Electric Roman blinds, programmed to go up and down with sunset and sunrise in my living room, so they work if I'm away and it isn't blindingly obvious I'm not in.

Boudy · 28/02/2026 20:48

Kitchenaid stand mixer...I really really want one!

paulhollywoodshairgel · 28/02/2026 20:48

One of those fancy taps

ThisJadeBear · 28/02/2026 20:49

Yesterday I’d have said a luxury bath.
Today, nuclear bunker…

BlueEyedBogWitch · 28/02/2026 20:54

I’d also like a garden art studio so I can make as much mess as I like with my oil paints, Lino printing and pottery.

Wheech · 28/02/2026 20:57

A robot lawnmower.

scobe · 28/02/2026 21:00

A second dishwasher
Japanese toilet
Shower with multiple spray points
LG mobile/rechargeable iPad type TV’s
Electric blinds
Robot floor cleaner thing (are they actually any good?)
Hoover function in base boards of kitchen

thinktoomuchtoooften · 28/02/2026 21:03

An orangery.

FruityFrog · 28/02/2026 21:04

That John Lewis £10,000 duvet on the other thread.

This is what I would do too. I’d quite like an Aga too.

Lurleene · 28/02/2026 21:09

A massive William Morris rug

thinktoomuchtoooften · 28/02/2026 21:20

I’d also change my bifolds, internal doors and kitchen windows to crittel

SabrinaThwaite · 28/02/2026 21:27

An original Eames lounge chair and foot stool.

Iamsotiredandfedup · 28/02/2026 21:27

Not a specific item but I’d always have an abundance of fresh flowers and expensive candles

SwedishEdith · 28/02/2026 21:28

A truly comfortable and cat proof sofa. Simply can't find one in real life.
