What outrageously expensive household item would you buy if money were no object?

I'd like solid silver cutlery. I have actually considered getting a couple of place settings, just for me. Also, Herend porcelain but I am so accident-prone, I wouldn't dare.

What would you buy?

A good decorating company to paint my whole house inside and out every year while I buggered off to a spa for a week.

mathanxiety · 01/03/2026 00:13

A little sauna in a closet, the kind you find in many Finnish homes.

corblimeyguvnr · 01/03/2026 00:26

A Hastens adjustable bed - about 24k .

Nevertriedcaviar · 01/03/2026 00:28

A very posh Magimix. We can't afford one, and wouldn't have room for it even if we could.

I'd like a dishwasher, but the kitchen isn't big enough, and the garden isn't big enough to extend the kitchen so I guess I'd just have to buy a bigger house first, then buy the dishwasher to go in it. 😂

Amy kitchen is 2m x 2m but I got a slimline dishwasher in it. There are also countertop ones. Never say never!

A big penny falls arcade machine. And a big enough house to justify a room to keep it in.

Can I also have own of those bean to cup coffee machines please. My friend just got the Ninja one and it made the BEST cup of coffee. I can actually already afford this but not a big enough kitchen to keep it in.

MrsCarmelaSoprano · 01/03/2026 08:12

I'd like a natural pool in the garden, that would be my idea of heaven.

See this kind of thing is what people always say and it makes them sound terrible, you have a robot and still have to hoover properly twice a week?! I only hoover once a week now without a robot!

Why do you need to hoover yourself at all? What parts does the robot miss? Is the suction just generally very poor so it's always doing half a job?

Without the robot I would hoover every day anyway, because the house has a lot of human and animal occupants and I am quite fussy about how my floors look. So without the robot I would be hoovering everyday which would take up a lot of time because there is quite a lot of floor space here. I save myself several hours a week by getting Eufy to do most of it.

I do top ups because although the Eufy does a decent job, the normal hoover leaves those satisfying stripes on the carpet and I like those 😂 Eufy also can’t do stairs.

A house by the sea.

Like PP, I would have Le Creuset everything, in a whole range of colours.

What I would most like is a solar battery but they are pricey. (We have solar panels but don’t get the full use of them without a battery).

It’s beautiful but too heavy empty , never mind with food in it!

GardenCovent · 01/03/2026 08:23

Not an object as such but I’d pay for someone to come and change my bed sheets daily

LilyCanna · 01/03/2026 08:58

I would get our kitchen redone - to look just like it is now but with proper wood cupboards rather than whatever the technical term is - wood look MDF? It’s in a retro style which I like more than modern kitchens and the little cupboards and shelves make good use of the limited space but it is very old and battered looking. God knows how much a company would charge for something very bespoke, good quality and out of fashion, but I’m sure ££££!

Tigermammy71 · 01/03/2026 09:42

A Tesla robot when they become available.

TooTiredToType77 · 01/03/2026 09:49

Porta Romana ostrich feather lamp with goose feet!!

grafittiartist · 01/03/2026 09:54

A balcony
one of those taps for fizzy water
art
orangery
swimming pool

greenteaandlimes · 01/03/2026 09:59

Thermomix

seven201 · 01/03/2026 10:05

We have a pitched glazed roof in our kitchen and were told it would not feel like a conservatory. It’s too hot in summer and too cold in winter - we were quoted 6k for electric blinds. So I’d buy expensive blinds!

I bought a kitchen aid with a bit of inheritance from my mum. Absolutely love it. We even had one of those loft up shelf things made for it so it lives in a cupboard then you pull the shelf up to countertop height and use it where it raised up too. That was our one silly kitchen renovation item, but no regrets.

Wish44 · 01/03/2026 10:06

Staff! A house keeper , gardener and a PA.

Comtesse · 01/03/2026 10:11

I’d have a LaCornue oven, Fisher Playkel drawers dishwasher and one of those 10k duvets mentioned in another thread.

Yes yes LaCornue - they are so expensive but completely gorgeous. Agas are boring in comparison!

Passwordsaremynemesis · 01/03/2026 10:31

I am lucky enough to have a Thermomix and a pool ( I’m in Oz so not that posh). I also just got a robovac/ mop thing which is bloody amazing, highly recommend! I would like a spa bath and some roller shutters and one of those fancy boiling water taps please.

Kickinggkicker · 01/03/2026 10:32

A robot to clean my kitchen floor.

Edrompia · 01/03/2026 10:34

I'm also voting for a housekeeper. And a professional declutter.

But in terms of objects, I'd fit all the windows with European style shutters for absolute blackout and cooling

LoveSandbanks · 01/03/2026 10:36

LauraMipsum · 28/02/2026 23:09

I'm another for a full set of Le Creuset.

I'm also having a vintage globe drinks cabinet, to go with beautiful wooden bookcases.

And a hot tub in the garden (which would involve enough money to move to a less crowded area where it wouldn't be antisocial)

Oh a vintage globe drinks cabinet! Me and dh both want one. We have a coffee table space invaders machine from the ‘70s

Id build a garden room that I could move my hobbies to and get them out of the kitchen.

Ridiculously expensive, totally gorgeous, I’m not even much of a chef.
