What outrageously expensive household item would you buy if money were no object?

I'd like solid silver cutlery. I have actually considered getting a couple of place settings, just for me. Also, Herend porcelain but I am so accident-prone, I wouldn't dare.

What would you buy?

A dishwasher and a kitchen aid mixer. Also a self cleaning oven. And whilst I'm at it a huuuge bed and room to fit it in with duvets and sheets large enough

Honeystride · 28/02/2026 21:33

A mini composter that turns all food waste into fertiliser

whoTFismadelaine · 28/02/2026 21:38

If we are talking objects rather than renovations, I would love some Rimowa suitcases.

I'd like a dishwasher, but the kitchen isn't big enough, and the garden isn't big enough to extend the kitchen so I guess I'd just have to buy a bigger house first, then buy the dishwasher to go in it. 😂

Try a half size dishwasher. Absolute gamechanger.

I am sure I saw one of these a couple of years ago on a Kdrama but now can't find them - it was an electric appliance they had in their kitchen?
I have the dog.

Ticktockwatchclock · 28/02/2026 21:42

I would love a full body hot air dryer instead of using towels after my shower.

PrincessOfPreschool · 28/02/2026 21:42

One of those Kitchen aid mixers. They are SOOO expensive but so beautiful. I just have a cheapy one but it's ugly. Also a boiling water tap thingy.

RosesAndHellebores · 28/02/2026 21:42

Probably not ridiculously expensive but a really nice, traditional pestle and mortar.

Kitchenaid stand mixer...I really really want one!

Get yourself on Facebook marketplace, I got mine on there for £30, apparently she had a few in different colours.

Admittedly I don't use it enough but it's so beautiful, I get pleasure just from looking at it and remembering the bargain of course.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 28/02/2026 21:55

This cabinet

Riverflow6 · 28/02/2026 21:56

Savoir mattress from Harrods or v spring. The ones that cost £60k

and Peter reed sheets to go with it

hamsterchump · 28/02/2026 21:58

I would like a robot lawnmower and robot hoovers (two, one for upstairs and one for downstairs) but they're still a bit too expensive and I'm not convinced the technology is quite good enough yet to justify buying. If I'm going robot I want to be able to give up hoovering and mowing completely not supplement my hoovering and mowing with expensive assistants that I have to maintain.

I had a tiny dishwasher that fitted into an existing cupboard and slid out on runners. Game changer.

A water filter system for the whole household

A Japanese toilet that washes and dries your bum and plays sounds to hide ‘noises’.

I've got one of those although it doesn't play anything. It's fab apart from when you're not sitting in quite the right way and you get an unexpected douche.

Mine would be really top quality quarry tiles in my kitchen.

If we are talking about appliances then I want a posh coffee shop style coffee maker thing.

VikingLady · 28/02/2026 22:02

A shower I saw in the late 90s for £30k. It was amazing. It had seats, mood lighting, a ledge to put your foot on for shaving your legs, you could sit in the bottom as a bath, it had a tv….

Really though, I’d mostly like staff. Or a robot.

Viviennemary · 28/02/2026 22:02

I'd like a kitchenaid. I could afford one but seems a waste of money because I never bake. But they do look nice.

RandomUsernameHere · 28/02/2026 22:02

An army of robot vacuums. I’ve got one but it’s not enough!

I wanted one for about 5 or 6 years before finally getting one. I am so pleased I got it! Baking things is now so much easier and quicker. We now only eat home made bread, bread rolls and home made breakfast muffins. I will make a batch of bread/ rolls or muffins on a weekend morning then freeze the rest for the week.

I'm also making cakes and biscuits more frequently too as it’s so easy to throw it all in and tidy up the kitchen while it is kneading/whisking things.

The thing i’d quite like for the home is a sauna but that definitely ain’t gonna happen 😆

Overtheatlantic · 28/02/2026 22:03

A French rattan bed with a bespoke duvet cover in a blue toile.

canklesmctacotits · 28/02/2026 22:03

Silk wallpaper.
Chinese rugs.
Motorised solar shades.
Ability to switch on my bathroom underfloor heating without taking out a new mortgage.
My own study/reading room/TV room.

DH and DC would have to move out beige Amos that could happen 🙄

Oh yes! Having lived in a very soft water area for 20 years, coming back to really hard water has been grim. Viakal all the way.

OotontheRandan · 28/02/2026 22:05

Either a fancy dancy coffee machine or a really beautiful painting i saw about 15 years ago but couldn't afford (it was £300).

How much was your toilet? Also do they have to be wired in I suppose somehow? Hmm, I wonder how they do that when there aren't many wires already in the bathroom.

Youspurnme · 28/02/2026 22:09

I would employ a housekeeper 😁 I cannot be fucked cooking and cleaning for the rest of my life!
