Do you drink much/any water?

I don’t. I’m a complete Coke Zero addict. I have approximately 4 cans a day but could easily have more if I wasn’t thinking about it. I’m trying to cut back and im trying to up my water intake. It’s not easy but for me it’s just breaking the habit.

am I alone? Does everyone else drink lots of water and never have any fizzy drink?

I’m the opposite! I drink water and coffee and don’t like fizzy drinks or squash! It’s a bit awkward that occasionally people comment on how healthy it is that I drink so much water or ask if I’m on a detox but it’s genuinely the only drinks I have throughout the day!

Me too.

WinterFrogs · 27/07/2025 20:05

I'll drink a can of coke if I feel a migraine on the way, but otherwise no. Proper coke, not the diet stuff.
I have water by my bed in a lidded glass, and drink that before my feet hit the floor in the morning. Then a coffee before breakfast.
I don't sip water, I just glug back 4 or 5 full glasses during the day. Plus a couple of cups of tea.

Iamthemoom · 27/07/2025 20:08

2 litres of water a day and no fizzy drinks ever. Other than the occasional Aperol Spritz!

Coke Zero, Diet Coke etc is full of Aspartame and horrendously bad for your health. If that is all you drink for hydration before long it will cause issues. I had a friend who consumed it every day, like you and became very unwell. Her illness was linked to Aspartame. Maybe Google aspartame health risks.

Rosecoffeecup · 27/07/2025 20:09

I love water (tap/still only), drink 3 or 4 litres a day

Lampzade · 27/07/2025 20:12

I don’t drink enough water and unfortunately I do like the odd fizzy drink . I know they are bad for you but I don’t drink, smoke or take recreational drugs so I think that I am entitled to at least one vice
Have gradually started to increase my water intake but only drink water at home as I dont like using public toilets and water makes me pee a lot

notacooldad · 27/07/2025 20:12

I have several pints of water a day.

First thing in the morning I'll have a litre of water before I get up as im chatting to Dh and scrolling.

In the evening dh will get us a pi t glass of water each.
Ill also drink water throughout the day. Occasionally I'll have Vimto but I normally stick to tap water as its ok where I live.

I drink a minimum of 4 litres water a day, but I don’t actively try to do this, I’ve just always drank a lot of water. I didn’t think 4litres was actually that much until reading this thread and realising it’s quite a bit more than most people!

I absolutely ADORE Pepsi, but would never have more than one can a day and have pretty much given it up the past few years. Try swapping to fizzy water with a dash of strong fruit juice like pomegranate juice.

I’m amazed that people can drink so little water and so much caffeine through tea, coffee, coke and not get headaches daily.

I just don't need 4 litres. I would be constantly on the toilet. I drink tea and coffee and don't get headaches unless I am doing a long drive and can't haave regular drinks.

Darkdiamond · 27/07/2025 20:13

I used to live in a very hot country and got used to guzzling water. The habit never left me and now I'd say I drink about 3 litres a day. I also drink coffee and tea and rarely a Diet Coke but always feel crap afterwards.

NancyCarey · 27/07/2025 20:16

Maybe I live a sheltered life but the people saying they don’t EVER drink water are blowing my mind. What do you drink when you’re really thirsty? (Doesn’t squash or fizzy stuff make your mouth drier?) Or when you wake at night and need a drink? Or when you have just brushed your teeth and your mouth is all minty? Or if you were having a really tasty / flavoursome meal? (Ie if you weren’t having wine - would you still have something sweet / fizzy with a really tasty meal?)

cloudbusting123 · 27/07/2025 20:16

I would highly recommend getting a Stanley cup (or similar). I don’t know why but they make me drink so much more water. I think it must be the straw. I drink about 3/4 litres a day. You really have to force yourself to get into water drinking. 10 years ago I would have been similar to you but now I can really tell if I’m not properly hydrated mentally and physically. You’ll also notice a huge difference in your skin.

22O725 · 27/07/2025 20:19

I gave up fizzy drinks quite a while ago. I only ever had them occasionally anyway. I am a big water fan. I’m autistic and you can’t get much plainer than water, it’s perfect for me! I also drink the odd tea or coffee but the vast majority of my liquid intake is water.

Summerbean · 27/07/2025 20:21

Can't bear the taste of fizzy drinks thankfully and never drink them. I have a couple of coffees in the morning and sometimes a herbal tea later on then just quick drinks of water throughout the day.

TheCurious0range · 27/07/2025 20:22

Mainly drink water, occasionally a cup of tea or coffee, more so in winter, but not allowed that at the moment for health reasons. I've been trying to drink more in the warmer weather and have been making up 2 litres of cordial/squash so it's ice cold and ready to drink, it makes it more appealing. I like bottle green elderflower and pomegranate, rocks orange and surprisingly Robinson's apple and pear barley water which we got as a substitute from Tesco.

Comefromaway · 27/07/2025 20:24

Yes, lots. I don’t really like fizzy drinks. Maybe an orangina every so often. I also used to have the occasional San Pelegrino before they put seeeteners in.

PorkPieForStarters · 27/07/2025 20:24

Probably about 1.5 litres of tap water on a normal day if I'm not thinking about it, more if I remember that I should! I also drink coffee, but mostly just tap water.

I do drink fizzy drinks occasionally if I'm out and about, usually if I'm hot. I take a bottle of tap water from home if I'm going out for the day as it's handy to have.

I had a gentle telling off from the blood donation nurse recently as I'd included tea and coffee when I was telling her what I'd drunk that day. Caffeine (which is also in fizzy drinks) is a diuretic, so actually works to dehydrate you. I'll stick to decaf around my next donation!

chuzzlewitthechipmunk · 27/07/2025 20:25

99.9% of my liquid intake is water. Otherwise it’s an occasional (less than once a month) lime or elderflower and soda, g&t, Pimms or wine if I’m out.

cant stand hot drinks, and don’t really like fizzy drinks either.

Illbefinejustbloodyfine · 27/07/2025 20:26

I drink around 2.5 litres if water a day, plus coffee/tea. Id feel terrible if I didn't.

JoannaFogg · 27/07/2025 20:27

No one loves water, in the same way no one loves green beans. But you have to drink it. Drinking fizzy drinks all day is wild, good luck trying to cut down.

CombatBarbie · 27/07/2025 20:28

Comedycook · 27/07/2025 19:01

Fizzy water is foul...I couldn't finish a glass of it if you paid me.

Have you tried the flavoured sparkling waters from aldi/asda etc.....

Op I have a stein that I fill every morning when I take my meds, admittedly its squash but it sits on the side as my visual reminder to drink (should be 2 of them but that rarely happens)

Tanefan · 27/07/2025 20:28

No. I am 51 and drinking water just wasn’t a thing when I was growing up. I also don’t like the taste and it doesn’t quench my thirst. Also at work there is no easily accessible drinking water so I am just kind of used to not drinking it.

BebbanburgIsMine · 27/07/2025 20:29

I never drink water

I like Pepsi Max Cherry, Irn Bru Xtra, I also like Ribena and drink a lot of Apple and Mango, or Pineapple Juice.

I don’t like diluting juice at all.

Noseylittlemoo · 27/07/2025 20:30

I'm a bit like you @AppropriateAdult . I have been really trying to drink more water but its been more than a year and it just doesn't get any easier. Flavoured drinks are so much easier!
@NancyCarey I actually find fizzy water tastes really dry and bitter . My first choice would always be a can or glass bottle of coke zero or pepsi max! I'm getting a lot better and try to drink only water with my evening meal and in between meals but it takes a lot of effort!

DramaAlpaca · 27/07/2025 20:31

I try to drink at least three pints of water a day, and lots of mugs of tea. I have four or five cappuccinos a week, I think. I don't drink fizzy drinks at all, apart from the occasional fizzy water with lime. My vice is wine, I love it.

I don't drink a lot of water and I very rarely get really thirsty. My favourite drink is tea.

I don't understand people who have to have a bottle of water on them all the time. If I go grocery shopping, for example, I don't neeed a drink for the couple of hours I am out of the house.

I am perfectly well hydrated because my urine is pale.

Also, I never really fancy water the way I do tea. It isn't the caffeine because I drink a lot of decaffeinated tea and coffee, but I just don't find water as satisfying as tea.

Another reason is that I never fancy a cold drink in cold weather. I want something hot to warm me up. If I didn't drink tea I would get dehydrated in winter.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 27/07/2025 20:34

I drink 3l every day. More if exercising. Also drink tea and too much coffee. Sometimes have fizzy drinks but not that often. I don’t drink alcohol.
