I don’t. I’m a complete Coke Zero addict. I have approximately 4 cans a day but could easily have more if I wasn’t thinking about it. I’m trying to cut back and im trying to up my water intake. It’s not easy but for me it’s just breaking the habit.

am I alone? Does everyone else drink lots of water and never have any fizzy drink?

I mentioned to a work colleague about my coke addiction 🙈 and she couldn’t believe anyone could drink so much of the stuff. It got me thinking

I’m like a child so probably drink more squash than anything else. I do drink water though just not as much as I do squash.

I drink about 3-4 litres a day. So does DH and DC also drink a lot. My parents only drink tea/coffee/orange juice (at breakfast) and I don't understand how they aren't completely dehydrated.

I find it so weird when people don't drink water at all.

I was always told drinking that much water a day can be dangerous and hard on your kidneys. Unless in a very hot country.
Do you find any side effects to drinking more water then most?

dogsandbudgey · 27/07/2025 19:07

Yes I’ve also heard you can deplete your body of electrolytes by drinking too much.

I used to drink lots of Diet Coke but went cold turkey about 6 years ago and now don’t miss it all. It was tough for a few weeks as had headaches but fine after that and I do feel better for it.

I now drink a pint of water as soon as I get up, one with lunch and another with dinner with occasional glasses in between and well as 1 tea and a coffee. Do add squash occasionally with my water.

Om83 · 27/07/2025 19:08

I have 1 or 2 mugs of tea a day and the rest is water for me. Will only have a coke or lemonade if we go to the pub on the odd occasion but don’t really enjoy them and see them as a waste- I’d rather save my calories for wine and chocolate!! We didn’t have them in the house when I was little and now I have kids they are only bought as a treat for an event like a birthday party or again, the odd occasion we go to the pub!
I suppose it’s just what you get used to and any habit is hard to break- try distractions? Hypnosis?!! Cold turkey???!

Comedycook · 27/07/2025 19:08

I must also add, despite not drinking fizzy drinks or alcohol, I'm overweight.

Drivingmissrangey · 27/07/2025 19:08

The only fizzy drinks I drink are tonic (with gin) and champagne.

Other than that is water all day, with one each of tea and coffee in the morning.

TheFormidableMrsC · 27/07/2025 19:09

I drink a couple of litres of water a day. I like the odd fizzy drink but they give me immediate bloat and I don’t understand how anybody can drink them throughout the day. I really love a fizzy cream soda though so enjoy that occasionally.

Account734 · 27/07/2025 19:10

I have two cordials with a splash of sparkling water and the rest ordinary water and then for the rest of the day it's plain water. It can't be good for you to just drink coke zero. Maybe try have some cordial with sparkling water to break the habit a coke zero habit and start each day with a big glass of plain water.

EmpressaurusKitty · 27/07/2025 19:11

I don’t particularly like fizzy drinks. I’ve got a water bottle with the hours marked on the side so I use that to normally drink 2ls of water per day.

Noseylittlemoo · 27/07/2025 19:12

I'm like you @dogsandbudgey . Around the same age and my go to drink is coke zero or pepsi max. The past year and a half I've really tried to increase my water intake and decrease the coke. Most days I try to stick to "just " 2 cans a day and have 1-1.5 litres of water a day. I've started taking a vitamin C tablet each morning and that makes the first 500ml of water really easy to take. I hate sparkling water though!

93percentage · 27/07/2025 19:12

I rarely get thirsty but I still drink 2 litres of water a day - usually with some no sugar squash.

My mum had kidney stones which the doctor said were likely caused by not drinking enough. She would drink 3 cups of tea a day and that was about it. In the end she died as a result of kidney complications.

DoneitagainhaventI · 27/07/2025 19:13

Personally I cant stand fizzy drinks - I would only drink coke or lemonade as a mixer with alcohol in it. And as I don't drink spirits now that's currently never.

I just don't see how fizzy drinks quench thirst .

I drink a pot of coffee for breakfast, a mug of tea for lunch and a pot of tea in the evening . I drink water intermittently through the day and night but not as much as I should.

SeasaltPuppy · 27/07/2025 19:15

I can get through 4 cans of Coke Zero before lunch 😩

I don't usually drink fizzy drinks because I'm a grown up. I drink my water in the form of tea or coffee, and water as well.

bengalcat · 27/07/2025 19:16

I drink about 1-1 and 1/2L of water a day along with a few black coffees .

Plantladylover · 27/07/2025 19:16

Wigtopia · 27/07/2025 18:53

I’m the opposite! I drink water and coffee and don’t like fizzy drinks or squash! It’s a bit awkward that occasionally people comment on how healthy it is that I drink so much water or ask if I’m on a detox but it’s genuinely the only drinks I have throughout the day!

I'm the same. 2 coffees in the morning Then all I drink is water throughout the day. If I don't have 2 litres before early afternoon I feel sluggish and not clear headed.

I could no drink fizzy juice or squash. Too sweet and yucky.

To the OP - I do think it's habit, If you are addicted to the fizz try sparkling water. no benefit in drinking fizzy juices all day.

SeriousTissues · 27/07/2025 19:17

I drink quite a bit of water. I love it cold from the fridge. I have warm water first thing followed by a coffee and a cold water. Then cold water throughout the day with the odd cup of tea. Always have a cold water before I go to bed.

BashfulClam · 27/07/2025 19:17

I used to drink barely any. I have now upped y water intake to 2-2.5 litres a day. I feel
less hungry, my skin feels good, I am slightly more alert. I still have my morning coffee. I find if you buy a cup with a straw it makes drinking water more easy.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 27/07/2025 19:18

Very little water, but lots of (black) tea and coffee.

mamaduckbone · 27/07/2025 19:20

I very rarely drink fizzy drinks but do have to remind myself to drink water, unless it is hot. I could happily just drink tea and coffee - mostly decaf so not too bad but I should still drink more water.

DelilahBucket · 27/07/2025 19:23

Coke is designed to be addictive, it's how they make their money from you. I stopped drinking diet coke after realising artificial sweeteners make me really hungry all the time. I now avoid them like the plague.

I drink at least three litres of water every day. I have a filled water bottle on the go all the time, so I don't drink it all in one go. The only time I have fizzy drinks is with gin/vodka or if we go out and I'm not drinking I have soda water with fresh lime.

ExponentialDelivery · 27/07/2025 19:23

I love Diet Coke, it quenches my thirst better than any other drink by a mile, but I only have it in pubs or if eating out, so that might be twice a week. Diet Pepsi is fine too but I don't like normal coke or coke zero or most other fizzies, in fact coke zero is completely undrinkable to me. I also like the San Pellegrino fruit one and sometimes have these at home. But maybe a couple of cans a week and only in really hot weather.

The rest of the time it's water, tea or coffee. I never drink squash, DH and the DCs do a little but maybe only a couple of times a week each. I drink glasses of water throughout the day. I used to add lemon slices but the acid made my teeth sensitive and the dentist told me to stop. Our tap water is really hard and chalky and pretty thirst quenching, it tastes lovely. I struggle a bit in soft water areas because it just doesn't quench my thirst.

legoplaybook · 27/07/2025 19:25

I have an occasional glass of water in the day, often have a glass with my dinner.
Otherwise it's coffee in the morning, diet coke in the afternoon and wine in the evening 😂
