I don’t. I’m a complete Coke Zero addict. I have approximately 4 cans a day but could easily have more if I wasn’t thinking about it. I’m trying to cut back and im trying to up my water intake. It’s not easy but for me it’s just breaking the habit.

am I alone? Does everyone else drink lots of water and never have any fizzy drink?

To all the people drinking multiple cans a day, is this not very expensive? I don't buy them ever so have no idea how much they cost

I generally buy when it's on offer in the supermarket 24 cans is usually about £8-10 ish.
I very rarely buy a single can of drink because they are so expensive to buy like that.

Comedycook · 28/07/2025 14:39

Yeah I suppose as a multipack then it's not too bad...I've only ever noticed the price as an individual can alongside a meal deal or whatever which would make it expensive

Hellohelga · 28/07/2025 14:51

I drink lots of tea, some coffee, some water, low alcohol beer now and then. Fizzy drinks are full of so much crap I never buy them. Fruit juice has too much sugar and it’s bad for your teeth. Herbal tea would be good but I’m not keen on it.

muddyford · 28/07/2025 15:18

Water, tea, the odd coffee, squash, milk, occasional beer. Never drink fizzy liquids at all.

BogRollBOGOF · 28/07/2025 15:20

Water is my dominant drink. I keep a small glass by the kitchen sink so it's easy to drink little and often in passing.

I drink other drinks. Sometimes I find squash more refeshing. I'll drink Coca Cola out of the house (it's usually the only non-artificial sweetener option). I sometimes drink Red Bull if I need an energy kick (I don't drink tea/ coffee) that's probably a few times a week and it varies with my menstrual cycle. I did reduce it down as it had crept up to about 5 times per week, and sparkling water helped by giving that sensory trigger.

Any carbonated drink is not great to drink in excess as the acidity is bad for teeth even when there's no sugar involved.

theriseandfallofFranklinSaint · 28/07/2025 16:20

Yes, I keep a pint glass by the kitchen sink and have a drink when I'm passing.

Dont drink coke zero it contains aspartame, its carcinogenic. It's in most of diet/zero drinks they are not the healthy option. The world health organisation made an announcement confirming this yet people still drink them daily. Hopefully this should help you kick the habit. Your better off having coke original as a treat every now and again, yes it has alot of sugar but people know the long term effects of sugar rather than chemical sh*t storm.

I switched out my whole families drinks about 5 years ago. I clicked I was always buying squash and actually panicked if didnt have any in for my kids.
So I just stopped. Our tap water is horrid so I have a water filter thats fab . But I do always have lots of bottled water in the fridge. My kids all ask for water as a go to drink now. My dh has to anyway as diabetic . And I just drink tea or water.
Once we stopped having other drinks in the house it was easier.

Can I ask what water filter you have please?

Midnightlove · 28/07/2025 19:35

I drink about 4 small bottles of water a day.. cuo of tea in the morning and occasionally something like a coke zero if DH has bought some. Carbonated drinks bloat me so bad because I can't burp

https://amzn.eu/d/cOpw9Is not sure if the link will work.
I saw it as a good investment given how much we drink.
Plus our tap water has a awful taste.
Lots of options for different priced ones .
And really depends how many people its for.

I dont drink much, can't force myself to. I have lots of milk in my ceral, drink a glass of fruit juice and in the afternoon drink a glass of mixed lemonade and pineapple (half a glass of each) I have one can of coke in the evening. I dont drink tea or coffee. I do occasionally have a glass of squash water is so boring though I font mind flavoured water.

ZiggyPlaysGuitarrr · 28/07/2025 21:13

I love diet coke but limit myself to a can every other day. Fortunately I like plain water as well.

A typical day would be 4-5 glasses of water, 1 glass of juice and 1-2 decaf coffees.

BeCosyLion · 28/07/2025 21:14

I drink a can of fizzy drink most days but also lots of water. I don’t even have to think about it- my body just craves water so I’m regularly up and down for it at work or at home. I find it hard to imagine not wanting water

Supersares · 28/07/2025 21:17

During the summer I’ll drink more cold water to help keep cool. Otherwise I drink tea, coffee and water throughout the day. DH is addicted to Diet Coke so we have a constant supply at home, I’ll have the odd one now and again. Interestingly, we were in Slovenia a couple of years ago and noticed we couldn’t buy Diet Coke there at all. We don’t know for sure but presumed at the it was due to being a carcinogenic….not sure how accurate this is though!

rosegoldJune · 28/07/2025 21:38

I don’t drink water, mainly coffee either hot or iced coffee, I occasionally have flavoured tea, sometimes Diet Coke, zero 7up, I’m actually surprised my kidneys are working (had bloods done & they are fine) I’m mid 40’s, as a kid I never really drank many fluids & my mum was always on at me to drink more. I’ve got adenomyosis & convinced it’s putting pressure on my bladder so I have cut back on what I drink because I’m always needing to wee. IF I do on the odd occasion drink water it has to be stone cold.

CoastalCalm · 28/07/2025 21:58

Minimum of 3 litres a day plus an odd can of Diet Coke

CalliopeFosterBeauchamp · 28/07/2025 21:58

Wigtopia · 27/07/2025 18:57

I am, but do have to make an effort to not overindulge on crisps and nuts - they are my kryptonite!!

another thought!! How about sparking water with lime? That might make things fizzy enough to trick yourself?!

@Wigtopia - I’m just like you. Inly
drink coffee and water, but crisps are my downfall.

This is a bit like me, too. I’ll fill up my bottle in the morning and throughout the day so I usually have at least 2 litres of water… but I treat myself with a can of juice at lunchtime and in the evening - sometimes sugar free but sometimes full fat.

Rednotdead · 28/07/2025 22:16

My water intake is via my cups of tea

OhNoMyChocMelted · 28/07/2025 22:22

I only drink fizzy or tea. I have to force myself to drink water. 2 litres fizzy a day. 2-3 cup teas. Have done since I was 16 and got a job. I was never allowed fizzy as a kid and the minute I got a job and had money I got a pack of 6 cans diet coke and then the rest is history I guess.
I think being restricted as a kid made me almost rebel? And now it's an addiction

I've also had recent blood work done and everything was bang in the middle of normal range. I kind of wanted it to be ' bad' to give me a kick up the arse to stop that I need as no will power.

Xmasbaby11 · 28/07/2025 22:33

I like fizzy drinks and drank a lot when I was young, but these days (49) I just have maybe one a week if I'm out somewhere and not drinking. I drink a lot of water daily, 2 mugs of coffee, a few of tea / decaff tea, and sometimes squash. It's hardly a perfect balance but OK and I definitely drink enough plain water.

I don't think it's shocking that someone is addicted to diet coke - a lot of adults are coffee addicts and that seems a lot more of an acceptable middle class / middle age (my circles) weakness!

I would just try to cut down in stages. And certainly alternate drinks so you have a certain amount of water before you have another coke.

Cynic17 · 28/07/2025 22:39

I never gave fizzy drinks (except the occasional tonic water in a G&T!).

Firstly, stop buying Coke - if it isn't in the house, you can't drink it.

I drink still water with both lunch and dinner, plus between meals, if I'm thirsty.
I don't know what else I would/should drink with a meal - even if I have wine, there's water as well.
