Do you drink much/any water?

I don’t. I’m a complete Coke Zero addict. I have approximately 4 cans a day but could easily have more if I wasn’t thinking about it. I’m trying to cut back and im trying to up my water intake. It’s not easy but for me it’s just breaking the habit.

am I alone? Does everyone else drink lots of water and never have any fizzy drink?

A couple of litres - probably more tea when it's cold. I have about one fizzy drink a week.

theriseandfallofFranklinSaint · 28/07/2025 07:21

I drink 2.5 litres of water a day plus 5 or 6 teas/coffees.

I'm amazed that there are those who don't drink water at all. In supermarkets I find it sad that there are aisles full of fizzy drinks and huge bottles of cheap pop. What a waste of resources, transport, the cost to health etc. Should be an occasional thing rather than an everyday standard.

Playing devil's advocate there is usually 1/2 - 1 side of bottled water. That could also be viewed as a waste of plastic/resources/transport etc in the uk , when it's safe (and free) to drink tap water?

I find it equally sad that there aisles full of bottled water (slight hyperbole). It’s a waste of resources and is filling the planet with unnecessary plastic waste.

I never have fizzy drinks (have never liked them, especially coke). I don’t drink alcohol, tea or coffee either.

My drink of choice during the day is elderflower cordial with tap water, or plain water with meals. I often have a very small glass of orange juice first thing in the morning and a small mug of milk before bed.

Unfortunately I am not slim!

heidi345 · 28/07/2025 07:50

I need to drink water to stop me from being constipated. I always drink a lot of tea, but without plain water as well, the constipation kicks in.

EnterFunnyNameHere · 28/07/2025 07:57

I drink 2 mugs of tea, and probably about 2L water (tap) per day. When I was really struggling to get my ibs under control, this seemed to help keep things moving but at the right speed and i've stuck with it. I dont know if I particularly like the taste of our tap water, or if I've just acclimatised to it, but I dont enjoy fizzy pop now. I used to drink a fair bit of pop when working, back when my job was more manual... Now I really don't enjoy the flavour/weird aftertaste. I'm not sure if thats my tastbuds changing, or the tendency for sweeteners over sugar in pop!

I drink lots of water a day. If I don’t, I worry I will get a migraine and my bowels would stop working! I’m used to it. But also I eat too many treats. So I figure if I were to drink sweet drinks, my sugar intake would be even worse!

Maybe I live a sheltered life but the people saying they don’t EVER drink water are blowing my mind. What do you drink when you’re really thirsty? (Doesn’t squash or fizzy stuff make your mouth drier?) Or when you wake at night and need a drink? Or when you have just brushed your teeth and your mouth is all minty? Or if you were having a really tasty / flavoursome meal? (Ie if you weren’t having wine - would you still have something sweet / fizzy with a really tasty meal?)

I never had water as a kid, we didnt have it with meals, I just never drank it. It wasn't a thing to take a water bottle to school in the 80s/90s.

I do drink water now but probably 750ml-1 litre generally, more if I'm in a hot country or doing a long run. (I did a 20 mile run in 30° recently and I think I probably had 1.5-2 litres water that day plus other drinks, I was thirsty all day)

I don't find plain water more thirst quenching than coke or squash, though. I know it is better but it just doesn't feel like it. If I'd just brushed my teeth I wouldn't have a drink! I do take a glass of water to bed if I wake up thirsty but I rarely drink more than a few sips.

My teenage kids are much better at drinking water than me and neither like fizzy drinks, despite them always being available

It's odd, isn't it, that there is a lot of talk about not buying bottled water because of the plastic waste, yet other drinks bottled in plastic are much more rarely mentioned.
All plastic bottles are as bad as each other, I think.
Maybe is because we can't have (unnecessary) drinks straight out of the tap...

CharSiu · 28/07/2025 08:28

I probably have a fizzy drink a couple of times a year as I’m not that keen. I drink water, tea both regular Yorkshire tea, green tea, lemon and ginger tea and coffee.

A bit of a red herring as surely this could apply to half the aisles of the supermarket : Ready meals, cakes, biscuits , sweets, crisps , alcohol....
I rarely have any of the above so I'm not going to feel too bad about my 2 cans of coke zero a day.

I don't drink any water. Decaf tea, coffee, diet fizzy drinks and the occasional fruit juice.

So what are you making your tea and coffee with?

Is it..........water?

4 litres a day

Why so much?
Do you constantly visit the loo?

It’s just where I feel most hydrated. Not really - probably one or two times an hour? I’ve had my first litre this morning, I went at 10:30 and then at 12.

Icanttakethisanymore · 28/07/2025 12:21

At home I drink water (sometimes fizzy, usually just straight from the tap) tea and coffee.

Buttheywereonlysatellites51 · 28/07/2025 12:25

I don't like fizzy drinks, juice, black tea or coffee, so that leaves me with .... water. I do drink herbal teas though. I've no idea how much I drink throughout the day, probably a litre. I did used to drink full on coke though back in my student days. I think it just becomes a habit - I replaced it with herbal tea and now most drinks taste too sweet to me.

It would be interesting to see if there's a correlation between those who drink water regularly and the quality of the tap water in their area. We have nice tap water here in Yorkshire!

Bet there is!

SweetFancyMoses · 28/07/2025 12:54

I only drink water when I’m at the gym. I drink Pepsi max, maybe 2 or 3 cans a day. No tea or coffee.

To all the people drinking multiple cans a day, is this not very expensive? I don't buy them ever so have no idea how much they cost

I buy multi-packs in the supermarket and try and get whichever brand is on offer so they work out about 35p per can . I don't drink any coffees or buy snacks so I don't think it seems extreme. If you buy one in a cafe or a single can on the go it will be more expensive just the same as any other drinks would be I guess.
