Do you drink much/any water?

I don’t. I’m a complete Coke Zero addict. I have approximately 4 cans a day but could easily have more if I wasn’t thinking about it. I’m trying to cut back and im trying to up my water intake. It’s not easy but for me it’s just breaking the habit.

am I alone? Does everyone else drink lots of water and never have any fizzy drink?

I dislike the sickly taste that diet drinks have. I can drink Coke Zero, but not diet coke.

I have some of the mini tins of coke zero in the house and had one on Friday because I was starting a headache, but I probably drink about 6 cans of coke a year.

Vallmo47 · 27/07/2025 19:26

Used to drink tons of fizzy drinks as well OP but have forced myself to start drinking more water now and I know it’s better for me. I go through good and periods to be honest - could easily drink 3 litres of fizzy a day if I didn’t stop myself. A word of warning against going cold turkey though - I actually developed psychosis following doing this. It was quite a stressful period in my life in general but the crisis team did acknowledge that any sort of “radical shock” to the body probably contributed.
I now “ease” off the stuff as it is addictive. I just adore the taste of Pepsi max cherry/Coke zero, it’s like coming home.
It’s quite scary actually.

I bloody love Coke Zero and was just the same as you until last year. I made an effort to drink more water, added lemon to it, some ice etc to make it more pleasant to drink and now I usually just have one Coke a day, some days I don't have any.

GentleSheep · 27/07/2025 19:27

No fizzy drinks for about 40 years! I mainly drink apple juice with meals and herbal tea at other times. When it's hot in summer I will drink water, and I always have water by my bed at night year round as I tend to wake up quite dehydrated.

silverspringer · 27/07/2025 19:27

I drink 2l plus of water a day, with a bit of squash in it I’m at home.
I’ll have the odd fizzy drink but not many now.
I really like sparkling water but trying to avoid plastics and I’ve also heard it destroys your tooth enamel.

I’ll have 2-3 cups of tea a day and the odd coffee if I’m out.

wordywitch · 27/07/2025 19:29

I drink water all day, with a black coffee in the morning, a cup of tea in the afternoon, and a couple times a week might have a sparkling water with juice or an iced tea. I only get a Diet Coke or lemonade if I’m out for a meal.

This - I heard all carbonated drinks are really bad for your teeth, even fizzy water which I really like. Coke etc I can take or leave, but Perrier I really do like. I only have it as a treat now and again.

blossombubblesbuttercup · 27/07/2025 19:33

I’m the same OP, I have coffee in the morning, Coke Zero the rest of the day. Occasionally a squash. I really need to reduce my intake, it does make me feel ugh but I’m addicted🤷‍♀️

writingsonthewall · 27/07/2025 19:33

Yes 2 or 3 litres. I didn’t used to but retrained myself when I wanted to lose weight.

all I drink now is coffee, water and wine!

digiwidgy · 27/07/2025 19:33

I drink about 2-3 litres a day. Find it easy but I do have Stanley cup dupes dotted around home and work. Saves getting up and down all the time to fill a glass

Tia247 · 27/07/2025 19:41

It's really unhealthy to drink fizzy drinks all the time OP, if you can only drink fizzy drinks make sure it's fizzy water with absolutely nothing else added.

The phosphorus in coke zero can interfere with calcium absorption, leading to bone density loss. You're putting yourself at risk of osteoporosis as you get older. Some studies also link diet sodas to increased risks of heart disease and stroke, Even though it's sugar free coke zero can also lead to tooth decay due to acids.

I only really drink water, the odd tea or hot chocolate but i had a complete sugar free squash addiction when I was young and have little enamel left on my teeth due to that. I slowly phased it out by watering it down more and more over time. Could you try that OP? Water down your coke by a quarter for a few weeks, then half, then three quarters - by then it'll probably taste so bad that you won't mind moving onto water!

Mrsplants · 27/07/2025 19:42

I drink a minimum of 4 litres water a day, but I don’t actively try to do this, I’ve just always drank a lot of water. I didn’t think 4litres was actually that much until reading this thread and realising it’s quite a bit more than most people!

I absolutely ADORE Pepsi, but would never have more than one can a day and have pretty much given it up the past few years. Try swapping to fizzy water with a dash of strong fruit juice like pomegranate juice.

I’m amazed that people can drink so little water and so much caffeine through tea, coffee, coke and not get headaches daily.

DoneitagainhaventI · 27/07/2025 19:43

Im finding this thread quite surprising.
I go in supermarkets and I see people with trolleys loaded with industrial sized amounts of fizzy drinks.
But I've always thought these people were the exception and the majority of people drank a lot more water than I do.

Having read this thread Im actually taken aback by how many people are still drinking the fizzy stuff in preference to water..

PerfectTuesday · 27/07/2025 19:50

Yes, probably about 2 pints a day on average. I also drink herbal tea, normal tea, orange juice or squash and assorted fizzy drinks, but not always all in one day! Rarely have coffee and don't drink alcohol any more.

Onoopie · 27/07/2025 19:50

I have one of those 2L water bottle and I make sure I finish that by 7pm. I also have a big cup of black coffee in the morning, and then a big cup of unsweetened herbal tea mid-morning. I sometimes drink 500L sparkling water on top of that. So I average 3L of fluids everyday. It’s all about routine and reminding yourself to drink throughout the day 🙂

FloozingThePlot · 27/07/2025 19:53

I drink at least three pints of water a day - love it - plus herbal teas. I rarely drink fizzy drinks. How are your teeth, OP? The acidity of most fizzy drinks is really not good for tooth enamel.

terracelane23 · 27/07/2025 19:54

I sometimes have a Diet Coke and I have 2-3 decaf coffees at day, and an alcohol free lager, but I mainly drink water.

AppropriateAdult · 27/07/2025 19:56

I don’t drink any ‘plain’ water at all, except that if I’m in a restaurant and drinking wine I’ll always have a glass of water on the go as well. Otherwise it’s 2 Coke Zeros a day, a couple of coffees and maybe a glass of weak squash.

I genuinely find water very hard to drink, and never ever crave it, even if extremely thirsty. I also can’t swallow tablets with water without gagging, whereas I have no problem taking them with a flavoured drink.

PerfectTuesday · 27/07/2025 19:56

It would be interesting to see if there's a correlation between those who drink water regularly and the quality of the tap water in their area. We have nice tap water here in Yorkshire!

ColinOfficeTrolley · 27/07/2025 19:57

2-3 litres a day, with a herbal teabag in yo flavour it.

I drink a couple of black coffee's a day too.

But I'm on Mounjaro and my weight loss is much impeded if I don't drink plenty of water.

Upshot is, my skin has never been so hydrated and soft.

LuckysDadsHat · 27/07/2025 19:58

I only drink water and a hot chocolate probably 6 times a year! I hate fizzy drinks, and find squash too synthetic tasting. I dont drink tea or coffee either. I love water though and drink probably 8-10 pints at least a day.

Ours is very chalky and hard and I love it, can’t be doing with soft water that has no flavour so yes, there is a correlation for me.

socks1107 · 27/07/2025 20:00

Yes about 1.5l a day. But this is only since new year when I went cold turkey on my cola habit.
awful headaches and cravings for 3 weeks and now I don’t think about it ever

GAJLY · 27/07/2025 20:01

I used to drink pepsi max most days alongside tea/coffee and one glass of water! I became really fat and my doctor recommended I stop the fizzy pop. Which I did, and I've lost weight. I now have a hot water first thing, then alternate it with my tea/coffee. I drink quite alot of hot water.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 27/07/2025 20:03

I just drink water and tea.
I never have fizzy drinks.
Fizzy water is especially vile.

I'm surprised that so many people on this thread drink so many cans of Pepsi!
