Eating animals

To me killing animals and keeping them the way we do should be illegal. And them queuing up to be killed in an abbatoir and scream on the way in. It's barbaric and medieval in my opinion. Eat something else!

Haha do better. My 12 year old could give a more reasoned argument than that @Bearsaloud

Cheeseburgers taste so nice. Ditto bacon. The lure of these took me away from being veggie a LONG time ago.

Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 10/07/2025 18:18

If thats how you feel then absolutely right that you dont eat them.

Unfortunately, youre not in control of what other people choose to eat so your order to eat something else is pointless.

If youre wanting to kick shit off there's a thread already doing that quite nicely atm. Go dive in there. Folks are already warmed up.

won · 10/07/2025 18:20

Awful. You people wouldn’t run over an animal purposely, you’d pick up a lone injured bird and try and save it.

But you think it’s ok to end lives in painful horrific ways for your taste buds. If there was justice in the world, you would switch lives with the animals you harm and experience what they do.

Mumofmarauders · 10/07/2025 18:20

I don’t eat meat and I agree with you tbh but I’m not sure what the point of the thread is. This is not going to be the thing that changes someone’s mind!

(Edited because I missed out the word meat before and it is most certainly not true that I don’t eat 😂😂)

Glitchymn1 · 10/07/2025 18:20

Agreed.
People get VERY defensive though, but I can guarantee the vast majority wouldn’t have the balls to set foot in an abattoir.

When I did eat meat I had the guts to admit it was cruel.

Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 10/07/2025 18:21

Yeah, berating and insulting people really makes folks open to hearing your pov.

Turn your caps lock on. That'll show us.

won · 10/07/2025 18:22

@Glitchymn1 true, people don’t like the guilt of what they do for their taste buds. Even when alternatives exist.

You want us to stop dealing with injured birds and to drive straight over the bunnies and deer?

I agree but you won’t convert anyone like this.
Guilt is a difficult emotion

No. They obviously want you to see the hypocrisy and cruelty and stop eating other animals.

I had a lovely bacon bap today with lashings of ketchup. Currently enjoying a chicken roast. Delish.

We had a vegetarian teacher show us a lovely video of the inside of an abattoir and how all the different animals are slaughtered. That was 35 years ago and I still eat meat, chicken and fish. So I do it in the knowledge of what happens. Those animals would not exist if they were not needed for meat production. And besides, meat substitutes are nothing like meat and I like the taste of meat. My sister has been vegetarian for about 40 years and not once has she acted like a sanctimonious arsehole about my food choices.

I agree to an extent but you sound very angry and would need a more reasoned argument than a shouty dictation to sway me from eating chicken especially.
It's tough because it's so culturally defined and something that has been passed through generations.
Im open to the idea of trying to eat free range etc and animal welfare, but not when someone gets on a soap box and sjouts at me.
Try again OP

Or maybe people just don't feel the same way you do? Humans have eaten meat since we've existed; for much of that time we were hunting and killing our own food or keeping our own animals which would then be slaughtered and eaten. I respect people who choose not to eat meat but not everyone believes there's anything inherently cruel about it.

SpottyAardvark · 10/07/2025 18:38

I was wondering what to have for dinner tonight, now I know. Will fire up the barbecue and grill up some sausages & burgers. And a lovely, red, rare steak. 😋

Comedycook · 10/07/2025 18:38

I will concede that factory farming is quite hard to justify from a moral standpoint...but meat is part of our natural diet.

blacksax · 10/07/2025 18:41

Humans are omnivores. We have canine teeth. They are there for a reason.

Yes, we should do everything possible to eliminate any stress and suffering in abattoirs, but no, eating meat should not be made illegal.

arcticpandas · 10/07/2025 18:41

I think that if you eat animals you should watch them being slaughtered to death and cut to pieces first. Bon appétit

You honestly don’t think it’s cruel? That’s mind blowing and quite uneducated! I don’t know where to begin… so I’m not going to. I really don’t care if people eat meat- but at least acknowledge the cruelty involved. If you still don’t get it watch that documentary about factory farming.

@JessicaTookMyLunch ? 🤷🏼‍♀️

Ponderingwindow · 10/07/2025 18:52

Tried eating something else. Did all the research and planning. It didn’t work. Failed twice. I am much healthier when I include animals in my diet.

Fine. It's what people have done for hundreds of thousands of years. Although it's more useful to know how to skin/pluck and dress a carcass if you're the one actually doing the hunting/fishing, as the majority of kitchens are only large enough to joint a chicken, rather than a hoggett or larger.

Meadowfinch · 10/07/2025 19:08

You are perfectly entitled to your view.

However, so am I. I buy free range chicken and pork from a local butcher. Free range eggs from a neighbour. I buy lamb, twice a year, direct from the farm - I know the people who raise it and where/when it is slaughtered.

I live rurally and cook from scratch. Nothing is wasted. We don't eat out or have takeaways. The only processed meat we eat is the pepperoni on ds' Friday pizza and rarely a small piece of chorizo.

I live with as small a carbon footprint as I can, but I choose to eat meat. Not huge amounts, not cheap imports. locally grown, well kept.

But That is my choice.

Kick shit off! Omg are you an adult: it's my opinion I think killing animals inhumanely should be illegal. This was a question that popped up and the first thing I could think of. I had 2 mins to quickly type something while waiting for someone.
Not trying to tell anyone what to eat. Obvs 'the eat something else!' comment riled you. - I don't want to control what other people eat. Just thinking slitting animals' throats is barbaric. The end !
