I’m kinda sick of it, although heading to the seaside at the weekend so that kinda makes up for it but sick of the sleepless nights

seems to be going on forever

it must be global heating surely ?

What the heck !!! Where the hell are you ?

Rural Northumberland. We have our own micro climate.😁 Friends in Newcastle were complaining about the heat the other day and I had to go outside to see what they were on about. We're usually about 5 or 6 degrees cooler than nearer the coast.

Dreading it. More feral children screaming outside until midnight

Ha ha, yet here on MN it’s considered fine because it’s too hot for the poor wee lambs to be in bed at 8pm.

Dreading it. 36 weeks pregnant, 2 young kids, summer holidays + my cat has an infection on an injury for his paw we are mid treatment for. I will need to keep him inside so the heat from the ground doesn't cause him any pain as he won't keep it dressed!

bloody terrible i live in a top floor flat no garden.

Great tip I learnt from my sister in Italy.
During the day keep the curtains and Windows closed.
At night open the windows on the coldest side of the house downstairs which will tend to be North, and the opposing Windows upstairs on the south side.
This will basically funnel cool air into your house overnight and then make sure you close the windows and draw the curtains during the day following.
Works an absolute treat when it's 45 degrees. Basically stocks up the house with cool air during the night and dumping the heat which you prevent from heating inside by drawing the curtains preventing the sun from hitting internal furniture and floors.
Worked for me about five times over the last 25 years in southeast England.

Last summer was pretty bad if you like warmth and heat. Easy to google and check back. Unless you were in some random microclimate part of the UK.

Last 2 weeks of July were above average temp wise & Aug was average or a bit above with less average rainfall I believe. I'm in London & remember buying another fan in July.

FfaCoff · 09/07/2025 18:03

Excited here in South Wales - we haven't had any or much of the heat other areas have had.

@JenniferBooth I remember heat too but apparently we are wrong 😆

WaltzingWaters · 09/07/2025 18:05

Very happy. I love the heat. (Saying that whilst 20 weeks pregnant too!)

Maybe we can swap? I’m in London and it’s currently 26 degrees here (at 5pm). Over 30 is expected tomorrow.

Come on up! I'm from Kent, so I'm well aware of the temperatures in the SE - 1976 was the first time it really registered. We don't get that many very hot days overall, so before you know it, it'll be cool again.

MrsSethGecko · 09/07/2025 18:06

I'll be at work in a kitchen for most of it, but the bits I'm outside will be nice!

DinoLil · 09/07/2025 18:07

Nooooo. I've an old doggo who can't 'do' hea

TaborlinTheGreat · 09/07/2025 18:07

Looking forward to it! It looks like it's going to be between 26 and 29 here (Cumbria) on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Thursday 19 and back down to 22 or 23 from Monday. Good timing with the heat confined to the weekend!

TheChosenTwo · 09/07/2025 18:08

I’m feeling great about it but I genuinely love the heat and I always say due to my ethnicity I really feel the cold and I was born to live in a hot country!! Dh is always melting and I’m under my electric blanket 😂
i feel recharged by the sun, i adore the feeling of warmth on my skin, love watering my herb and veg beds in the evenings, love not being bundled up in 23 layers just to stop my teeth chattering.

It’s just summer, surely!?

not a ‘heatwave’ or global warming to any massive extent….just summer

plenty of summers like this back in the 70’s/80’s/90’s etc

jaws33 · 09/07/2025 18:09

I feel the cold and like heat but 30 in London is horrible

jaws33 · 09/07/2025 18:11

30s in June was defo not the norm

jaws33 · 09/07/2025 18:11

"And further data from the Met Office also shows that over the decade 2014-2023, days exceeded 32C more than three times as often in the UK as during the 1961-1990 period."

Yep Got HA contractors coming next week and i will be wearing no more than i am comfortable with. They have been warned enough times about how hot this place gets and this leak was reported back in May They are the ones who have dragged their heels into high summer so tough

jaws33 · 09/07/2025 18:15

Good luck!

Glitchymn1 · 09/07/2025 18:20

I usually hate it, but have enjoyed it working from home and sat in my undies.
Im not a huge fan of going out in it, puppy can’t go out in it and her training was cancelled again. I’ve ordered a pool.
