I’m kinda sick of it, although heading to the seaside at the weekend so that kinda makes up for it but sick of the sleepless nights

seems to be going on forever

It's rubbish. I've got digestive issues too and migraines...so many things going on that I can't even tell what's making me feel ill.

I've got this thing that you can wrap around your waist and it holds either ice packs or a hot water bottle. I got it from Amazon.

You can't dangle something like that without sharing a link please!

frozendaisy · 09/07/2025 20:39

Might have a try at G&T ice pops

Buy a cooling mat for her. Amazon sell them.

We already have one but she won't lie on it.

dontforgetme · 09/07/2025 20:44

Dreading the next few days of predicted 32 temp. New build house absolutely fucking boiling. Turning up to school run absolutely dripping of sweat with ringing wet hair. Birthday party at an indoor jump place Saturday which is hell in winter let alone a heatwave. However I have just put bottle of Prosecco in the fridge to chill for Friday night, I will blame the heatwave for my hangover Saturday morning Grin

OnTheBoardwalk · 09/07/2025 20:45

Why they keep saying this is this a new heatwave? It's been hotter than hell for weeks/months now with no break. Doesn’t help I’ve spent a fortune over the years insulating my house to keep the heat in

only good thing is I’ve discovered is polapoles really are great , especially the alcoholic ones.

frozendaisy · 09/07/2025 20:47

check your wee is the colour of light straw

socks1107 · 09/07/2025 20:50

Apart from last week where one day I struggled it’s been really nice! I’m in the south east and even travelling into London for work has been ok.
Ive dressed appropriately and kept up with water and aired the house.
in eight weeks it’ll be the middle of September so I’m just enjoying it for what it is as it’ll soon be over ( I’m a definite autumn winter lover but we’ve had some poor summers so we are due this!)

MrsAmaretto · 09/07/2025 20:53

Keeping my fingers crossed 😆 Live in Shetland so would love it to be above 15degrees! Last summer was awful weather wise so I just want some dry days with no wind!

bardosya · 09/07/2025 20:54

Invest in an air con, it’s life changing

EasternStandard · 09/07/2025 21:11

I’m pleased to get a decent summer. Rain is good every so often so we don’t get a hosepipe ban though.

schools are teaching about climate change but still hold sports days in July Mixed messages much. If they believe in climate change to the point that its in the curriculum why havent sports days been moved to April???!!!!!!!!

What has sports day got to do with “climate change”?

Classic Mumsnet moaning about the heat, and bleating climate change, although this thread has more positive replies than usual. But I’m going to hide the thread, as I always do the many threads moaning about our extremely short summer.

EscapeToSuffolk · 09/07/2025 19:13

It was dull and rainy last year and the year before but that wasn't normal weather either. It rained almost every day.

I'd really love you to be correct and this be normal, but it's just playing out as predicted by scientists. In fact it's worse because they didn't predict the high ocean surface temperatures. Why do you think you can cherry pick 'evidence' and know better than climate scientists?

I don’t know what you’re on about. I’m merely responding to someone who said we had a great summer last year.

I don’t think I said anything about ‘normal’. People get so angsty on these threads.

user1492538376 · 09/07/2025 21:24

Its been muggy and humid and not always sunny - but really warm and dry. Feels strange - though I guess this is becoming the new normal.

Its nice not to have to wear several layers and easier with the toddler outside and the dog.

Bryonyberries · 09/07/2025 21:31

On holiday in Cornwall this week so looking forward to it. Feels much different to when you have to work in it!

Falingoth · 09/07/2025 21:32

We're lucky our house keeps really cool. It's got really thick walls, hard stone floors and the windows are quite small. Bedrooms upstairs can get very stuffy though. I think we'll invest in some air con units for those.

So yea, I'm loving the heatwave. As long as I can escape from it when I need to, I'm all for it.

Its the humidity and the mugginess i cant stand For some reason this flat is also stifling late at night.
Back in 2008 our estate had new kitchens fitted (except us) i was leaving to catch the bus into town when i heard the contractors discussing how disgustingly hot it was in the upper floor flats and that they shouldnt have to work in those conditions, i went up to them and reminded them they got to go home at the end of the day while we had to live in them.
During the 2022 heatwave the HA tweeted that they were suspending roof and loft work due to the heat, But gas safety checks went ahead, Ppls heating was still being turned on in 30c+ heat.

StarCourt · 09/07/2025 21:36

i hate the uk heat as it exacerbates my migraines, DD hates it as she can’t regulate her temperature. She’s grumpy, neither of us are sleeping and we can’t wait for Autumn.
Dog loves it ( he’s from Gran Canaria ) cats don’t seem to care

Clipirts · 09/07/2025 21:37

FlibbertyGibbitt · 09/07/2025 17:37

I’ve just walked though a field at the back of me, by now normally crops would be growing but today they looked really, really patch. Food prices will go up unless we get lots of rain.

Yes, farmers everywhere are already harvesting. Yields are going to be terrible this year and you all know what that means.

Elfie23 · 09/07/2025 21:45

Dreading it. Live in a 4th floor flat and the sun belts through the windows from about 2:30-3pm until the sun goes down. We keep the blinds and curtains shut all day but it’s horrendous in here.
This years current record is held by my bedroom at 31 degrees at 11pm

Auburngal · 09/07/2025 21:46

I’m not looking forward to it. This weather doesn’t do me any favours. It’s the high humidity that is the problem. Being asthmatic and having hay fever.

There are some trees that are losing leaves already as getting no water. Because they break down, that is more irritants for me.

I feel for my DM. Has surgery booked for Monday. Unsure if she needs to wear pressure socks afterwards. Had my gallbladder removed in this weather 12 years ago. Wearing pressure socks wasn’t fun - in any case, especially in 31c heat

Auburngal · 09/07/2025 21:48

Never have an issue with heat abroad. Have walked 12 miles in 45c heat in Seville. I struggle to walk 0.12 of a mile in UK hot summers

Douane · 09/07/2025 21:54

Keep in mind that wild birds need water, cats and dogs that are left outside need fresh water too.
Also keep in mind if you're in the habit of taking your dog with you places , possibly popping into a store with aircon, (which tends to slow people down because the aircon feels so good!) not to leave dogs in the car with the windows shut.
Preferably don't bring them along on super hot days.
Just saying.....

ViciousCurrentBun · 09/07/2025 21:56

I’m in Cornwall on holiday so am relieved I’m here. Been swimming in sea a few times this week already.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 09/07/2025 22:05

I'm not bothered by the forecast for Saturday. We're forecast 29 in N Wales and my house is quite good at staying relatively cool.

But my classroom will be unbearable on Friday. Today it was supposedly 23 outside and it was 28 inside on the thermometer with my 3 windows open as far as they will go (so 5cm just at the bottom and not open at all anywhere else!) and 3 fans going.

It's giving 28 outside Friday so I think my class will have to decamp to the hall where it's cooler.

Foxychicky · 09/07/2025 22:07

Love the sunshine but add heatwave to peri-menopause hot flushes and not as fun!!!
