Watching an advert for a shower gel for 'people who don't lotion every day' Who actually has the time to lotion everyday?

As I say - DH & me wondering who has the time & energy to put body lotion on every day, unless they have particularly dry skin, eczema etc?

Yes I will put body lotion on after a day in the sun when on holiday or on parts of my body if they're looking or feeling dry (my shins often get dry & flaky), always put SPF30 moisturiser on my face & neck, but other than that I neither have the time or inclination.

Am I unusual?

I use body oil or moisturiser most days, I might miss one day a week if I'm in a real rush but it only takes a couple of minutes. Try it for a month OP your skin will be lovely

ETA I just do it after I shower, towel dry, oil/moisturise, clean teeth, get dressed

I must admit, I have put body lotion on every time I’ve had a bath or shower since the beginning of time!
I don’t have any skin conditions but if I don’t put lotion on then my skin feels tight and dry, which is probably because I’ve built up a dependency on it.
I will use any old lotion though, nothing expensive.

I put body lotion on after every shower. I have dry, dehydrated skin and it would be itchy and uncomfortable within a few minutes if I didn't

I use body lotion every time I have a shower which is daily or more. It takes minutes. My skin feels really tight if I don't.

WhereOnEarthIsMyPlanet · 05/07/2025 16:13

I moisturise every day after my shower. It takes about a minute.

Itiswhysofew · 05/07/2025 16:13

I use body lotion everyday. It's something I like to do, as don't want dry skin.

WonderingWanda · 05/07/2025 16:13

I rarely put body lotion on to be honest and I wouldn't say my skin is especially dry. I do use hand cream and facial moisturiser in winter though.

ImAPreMadonna · 05/07/2025 16:13

Me. I use body lotion daily. Entire body - takes a couple of minutes max.

apostrophewoman · 05/07/2025 16:14

I put it on every day as well, have done for years. Nice smelling body lotion makes you feel lovely 🥰

Dolamroth · 05/07/2025 16:14

Nope, I never put lotion on. My skin isn't dry.

saveforthat · 05/07/2025 16:14

I use body lotion every day. Well body butter actually.

Breathmiller · 05/07/2025 16:14

I do have terriblly dry skin and eczema so I have to. I have always thought anyone who didn't would have a much quicker routine as it is time consuming to a certain extent. I suppose just one of these things that you get used to and it doesn't feel a chore.

I do envy those, like dh l, who can shower and never have to moisturise. I'd be a flaky, itchy, red mess with sores. And of course, it can only be certain things I can use. Nothing nice smelling, and in fact for decades I had the same emollient prescribed by the gp. I just buy it now.

I know I'm not your target audience for this but its quite nice to be seen that it is actually a bit of a pain to do every day (or sometimes a few times a day)

You could have done your legs at least in the time it's taken you to discuss it with your DH, write this thread and read the responses to it.

theriseandfallofFranklinSaint · 05/07/2025 16:16

I do - I don't have dry skin just like the smell!

Mikart · 05/07/2025 16:17

I do. Takes 2 minutes ( and im 6 feet)

SupposesRoses · 05/07/2025 16:18

I wonder if the more you use it, the more you need it.

tartyflette · 05/07/2025 16:19

Can't stand that ad. Lotion is a noun, not a verb.
How hard is it to say 'use lotion'?
I mean, do you toothpaste everyday? Lipstick every day? (For example.)
Pah. Grumbles off to pedants' corner.

summerisawesome · 05/07/2025 16:19

I never wear lotion ever , I use a suntan lotion based moisturiser on my face. Any dryness issues I use a bit of Vaseline - but that’s hardly ever . I used it when younger and agree with the statement about using it leading to needing it .

janeandmarysmum · 05/07/2025 16:19

Goodness - I've never used body lotion. My skin is fine.

TheChosenTwo · 05/07/2025 16:20

I have the time but rarely the inclination.

This. Atrocious english. Angry

guerdyguatd · 05/07/2025 16:21

it's MNs so everyone will say they do it 3 times a day.

I aim to do it before bed but invariably if I have a busy week/lots on I just collapse into bed.

ImAPreMadonna · 05/07/2025 16:21

I don’t need to use it - I like the scent, feel and look of moisturised skin. My skin isn’t necessarily dry without it.

PineConeOrDogPoo · 05/07/2025 16:22

Never use it unless sunburnt

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 05/07/2025 16:22

I apply moisturiser after a bath or shower and it takes about two minutes. I don't have a bath or shower every day as I have quite sensitive skin but if I did I would put moisturiser on every time.

But I do understand where you're coming from - I thought my skincare regime took about twenty minutes and then I timed it and it's 3.5 minutes so no excuse not to do it every morning 😆
