Watching an advert for a shower gel for 'people who don't lotion every day' Who actually has the time to lotion everyday?

As I say - DH & me wondering who has the time & energy to put body lotion on every day, unless they have particularly dry skin, eczema etc?

Yes I will put body lotion on after a day in the sun when on holiday or on parts of my body if they're looking or feeling dry (my shins often get dry & flaky), always put SPF30 moisturiser on my face & neck, but other than that I neither have the time or inclination.

Am I unusual?

I have time but rarely actually do it because every type of lotion or moisturiser just seems to sit on my skin for ages - I need to stand rubbing it in for at least 10 minutes or I leave a trail of it everywhere, or it coat the inside of my clothes so I feel greasy all day. I can’t be the only one who finds products just sit on the top of my skin rather than sinking in, but it certainly looks like it from this thread! I do tend towards oily hair and skin though (thankfully calming down now I’m in my 30s)

NooNakedJacuzziness · 05/07/2025 17:03

I do, it just feels nice and really doesn’t even take a minute. Stops skin looking ashy

You're using the wrong soap then. Shower gel is not really skin friendly

I used to love all those cheap colourful and crazily scented shower gels until I learnt more about skin care! Now I exclusively only ever use Eucerin AtoControl Bath & Shower Oil - much healthier option and never had any issues since.

I don't use it, my skin is fine not dry at all. Don't like the feel of it and having to wait for it to soak in before you get dressed...yuk. Don't use shower gels either, bar or soap here

minipie · 05/07/2025 17:06

Nope. I moisturise my shins occasionally and upper arms if I’m off to a do.

My skin’s on the oily side though so guess that’s why I’ve never felt the need.

I’m 45 and feel like this may be changing.

MotherWol · 05/07/2025 17:06

I’m trying to be more consistent with my body care, so before I shower I brush all over to exfoliate, then shower with bar soap and moisturise afterwards with body oil. I find shower gel/lotion leave product residue but soap/oil don’t. Have been doing this consistently for a couple of months and my skin’s never looked better.

it's MNs so everyone will say they do it 3 times a day.

I aim to do it before bed but invariably if I have a busy week/lots on I just collapse into bed.

Wrong, I actively do the opposite. I try to dry and damage my skin daily. I sit in the garden naked come rain or shine. Anyone who uses body lotion is ridiculous. Not needed.

minipie · 05/07/2025 17:10

Out of interest, do all the lotion-ers also use body wash or shower gel all over?

Because I don’t, I just soap the bits that need it (bits pits face & feet generally ). I wonder if that’s why I don’t need lotion and others do.

Poonu · 05/07/2025 16:49

I do daily.
It makes me chuckle when people say they're too busy. Who is not busy? Everyone's busy.

Thank you all for your responses. I have friends who are black & understand that black skin (& hair) needs different treatment to Caucasian skin.

I'm nearly 62 & the boat has sailed on my body now. I look like the woman who survived the death of a thousand cuts with the scars from various spinal operations, a 10 inch scar from 2 operations to repair a fractured humerous on my left arm, knee ops, hip op, Caesarean scar, stretchmarks & self-inflicted scars from when I was younger & self-harmed. A bit of body lotion isn't going to make much difference now. 😂

But I'm lucky in that I have a DH who loves me & says (& demonstrates) that he fancies the pants off me. I am so blessed. 😍

I use soap all over. I don’t need moisturiser though, my skin is fine without it. I just like it.

Allthings · 05/07/2025 17:17

I have seldom used it. I don’t like the feel of it sitting on my skin which isn’t dry anyway.

Modernme · 05/07/2025 17:17

ImAPreMadonna · 05/07/2025 16:13

Me. I use body lotion daily. Entire body - takes a couple of minutes max.

Same as me then everyday without fail.

If I was really dirty I would, but it strips the oil from your skin so if water's enough that's all I use. It also destroys the natural skin biome. My skin seems OK - not too oily, not too dry, not smelly!
And what's the point of covering yourself with a load of strange chemicals if you don't need to?

But you’re not actually washing? I mean your armpits, your arse, your feet?

ImAPreMadonna · 05/07/2025 21:07

Timed myself this evening: 1 min, 47 seconds from chin to toes.

Eldermileniummam · 05/07/2025 21:09

I did as a teen / young adult but it's rare these days

it probably doesn't even take that long and your skin does look better

i will moisturise my arms / legs if they're going to be on show

SirChenjins · 05/07/2025 21:14

I rarely do - I use a good bar soap and my skin isn't dry at all.

I timed it this evening too after seeing this thread. 1 min, 53 seconds.

Either I'm bigger than you, slower than you or my body lotion is thicker.

OkPedro · 05/07/2025 21:18

I use a gradual tanner every morning after a shower. Odd day i don't bother but honestly it takes less than 5 minutes. How long do you think people are taking 😆

Me.

Not me

Igetalittlebitcloser · 05/07/2025 21:25

I never use it - my skin isn’t dry and it’s soft enough 🤷‍♀️

helpfulperson · 05/07/2025 21:25

never used body lotion in my life. This is another of these things that women conspire to convince other women is somehow necessary. Do men die from lack of body lotion, or even struggle with dry skin?

I don’t think I’d die from lack of body lotion, and I don’t have dry skin, I like using body lotion though.

Although I shower and use lotion every day, I never wash my calves, thighs, back or arms - I think they really just need the water of the shower to clean them.

28Fluctuations · 05/07/2025 21:32

If you've never missed it, don't bother. It's not a life requirement.

I use oil after a shower. Takes less than a minute. But there's no point to even a minute spent doing something you don't want or need to do!

28Fluctuations · 05/07/2025 21:32

Also... why did they use lotion as a verb?
