Watching an advert for a shower gel for 'people who don't lotion every day' Who actually has the time to lotion everyday?

As I say - DH & me wondering who has the time & energy to put body lotion on every day, unless they have particularly dry skin, eczema etc?

Yes I will put body lotion on after a day in the sun when on holiday or on parts of my body if they're looking or feeling dry (my shins often get dry & flaky), always put SPF30 moisturiser on my face & neck, but other than that I neither have the time or inclination.

Am I unusual?

I sometimes do it twice a day. Neom magnesium body butter before bed.

HundredMilesAnHour · 05/07/2025 23:08

I put body lotion on every day, usually just before bed but sometimes in the morning after my shower as well. I’ve been doing it every day since my teens. It takes 2 mins max. I love the smell and how my skin always feels so silky.

Wowzel · 05/07/2025 23:10

I never use lotion or body butter, I hate the way it feels.

I use face moisturiser now though

I don’t think I’m really need to but I’ve used body lotion every day since being a teenager. Something that smells lovely for a little bit of luxury every day. 🥰

There was a thread like this a while back and I was surprised at how many people were moisturising their whole body every day.

And it looks like this one is going the same way.

I’m with you @Imaybeoldbutstillrandy, it’s just not something I’ve ever really done and I didn’t realise so many people did.

For me I just do it for softer skin but other races have to do it every day otherwise they dry out.

mondaytosunday · 05/07/2025 23:52

I put it on after every shower. Even my 21 year old son and 20 year old daughter have a skin routine which involves moisturiser body lotion! It takes seconds.

troppibambini6 · 05/07/2025 23:56

every time I have a shower or bath. Can’t imagine not now!

Pinkrabitt · 06/07/2025 00:04

I don't. After having cancer i worry about putting synthetic chemicals on my body when i dont need to. If you just look at the ingredients of what youre putting on your skin and realise what is being absorbed into your body every day it does make you think.

You can use natural stuff if you wanted to. Shea butter, coconut oil etc

Whatever you want! I do my hair and make up in my underwear anyway. So moisturise, bra and pants on, do my hair and make up, then it’s soaked in enough to put my clothes on.

Ah. See I don’t do those things. I could brush my teeth I suppose.

I resent spending time and money on any sort of self-care or beauty rituals. I’ve just never enjoyed any of that stuff- to me they are just chores, so I keep things simple: shower, teeth. Cut nails every so often. I don’t even brush my hair unless I’m washing it which is once a week. I do look plain and ungroomed compared to others, but I am always clean and I am healthy, I just don’t enjoy pampering. I hate facials and spa treatments etc. None of it is enjoyable to me. Every so often I get body lotion or body butter as a gift and then feel bad when I don’t use it 😂 I’ve still got an almost full one in the cupboard that I got for Christmas. For years my lovely MIL used to put manicure sets in my Xmas stocking. She is so sweet. I think she has now realised I don’t use things like that and can not be persuaded so has given up. 😂

Hand cream in winter, and foot cream in summer if wearing sandals. Hardly ever use body lotion.

Ilovemyshed · 06/07/2025 04:43

I put lotion on maybe once a month. We have soft water which makes a difference.

I do have terriblly dry skin and eczema so I have to. I have always thought anyone who didn't would have a much quicker routine as it is time consuming to a certain extent. I suppose just one of these things that you get used to and it doesn't feel a chore.

I do envy those, like dh l, who can shower and never have to moisturise. I'd be a flaky, itchy, red mess with sores. And of course, it can only be certain things I can use. Nothing nice smelling, and in fact for decades I had the same emollient prescribed by the gp. I just buy it now.

I know I'm not your target audience for this but its quite nice to be seen that it is actually a bit of a pain to do every day (or sometimes a few times a day)

Same but I don’t find it time consuming. Takes less than a min to moisturise my body after a bath or shower. Throughout the day, it’s just a few seconds to moisturise affected areas.

RitaAndFrank · 06/07/2025 06:34

It may only take a minute or two to put on but it takes ages to soak in! Honestly, just putting HRT on daily is a pain. I haven’t time morning or night to waft around in my underwear for twenty minutes waiting for it to absorb.

Batbrown · 06/07/2025 06:36

I think it’s more unusual not too. You wash/shower everyday, brush your teeth, hair take your makeup off, why wouldnt you put lotion on? Probably takes me less than two minutes. I think more people are just inclined to self care.

Ladaha · 06/07/2025 06:37

I think the sensation of lotion on my skin is horrible and I only do it when my skin is really dry for some reason. It's not usually dry and my skin is fine.

Frostiesflakes · 06/07/2025 07:06

Yes i do every day always have done

Nachoinseachthu · 06/07/2025 07:08

Bluebay · 05/07/2025 16:31

I don't put anything on my skin - not even soap, except to wash my hands. I suppose the rest of me gets a bit of soap once a week when I shampoo my hair. I shower with plain water.
Don't use lotions, makeup, apart from factor 50 sunscreen on sunny days.

Same here.

AsCoolAsKimDeal · 06/07/2025 07:10

All over, every day - put it on when you step out of the shower, don’t dry off first, it sinks in faster.

Breathmiller · 06/07/2025 07:16

IleftmybaginNewportPagnell · 05/07/2025 21:37

You may envy me for not having to use body lotion but spare a thought for me as I can’t play the game where you put Post-Its on your forehead and guess the person as mine gets so oily they slide off 😂 My children think it’s hilarious.

😅😅😅. This made me laugh. You're right, that's a terrible affliction to have 😆. Thoughts and prayers.

Ach, I do hear everyone that in the grand scheme of things its not a long time out of your day. I think I'd feel better about it if it was a nice smelling lotion that made my skin feel silky smooth. But, in truth emollient is thick and takes longer to rub in and can leave the skin a bit 'sticky' for a bit, not to mention doesn't smell very nice. Just having a whinge. I am lucky to have something that helps. Like a PP, I'm not a great person for lots of pampering like this so would happily shower and go.

PersephonePomegranate · 06/07/2025 07:22

I do. It takes less than five minutes!

Edited

Maybe you are putting too much on. Moisturiser shouldn't take ages to soak in.

TwigletsAndRadishes · 06/07/2025 07:34

I put body lotion on about three times a year when I think 'gosh I look a bit scaly and dry on my arms and shins.'

TwigletsAndRadishes · 06/07/2025 07:37

I think if people used soap or a Dove bar instead of highly perfumed shower gels full of chemicals they'd not find their skin was tight and itchy after a shower and they wouldn't need to lotion as a verb every day.

Extiainoiapeial · 06/07/2025 07:37

What's with 20 minutes waiting for it to sink in?!
A quick dry after a shower, a big dollop of body cream on my hand, put a bit of the dollop on legs, arms, chest, shoulders, rub rub rub and that's it! Honestly just one minute. Deodorant and get dressed

Unless you are using something incredibly greasy or oily there is no waiting for it to sink in for 20 minutes! I did a pic to one of my favourite ones above. However I do have about four or five different ones I use, a couple of luxury ones that smell divine, I prefer that to perfume to be honest
