Watching an advert for a shower gel for 'people who don't lotion every day' Who actually has the time to lotion everyday?

As I say - DH & me wondering who has the time & energy to put body lotion on every day, unless they have particularly dry skin, eczema etc?

Yes I will put body lotion on after a day in the sun when on holiday or on parts of my body if they're looking or feeling dry (my shins often get dry & flaky), always put SPF30 moisturiser on my face & neck, but other than that I neither have the time or inclination.

Am I unusual?

I've never used body lotion. I had no idea it was so common to do so until I read a thread on here but apparently loads of people do it every day, head to toe.

I wonder if the more you use it, the more you need it.

I don’t need it, I’m sure my skin would be fine without. I like the smell and the feel.

Iheartmysmart · 05/07/2025 16:22

I use body lotion every day. Put it on straight after I’m dry from my shower and it’s sunk in by the time I’ve cleaned my teeth. Takes no more than a minute.

I do. I squirt it out of the bottle on to one hand, rub the other hand on top so the lotion covers both and rub it up and down one leg, repeat for the other leg. Anything left on hands goes on arms, shoulders and chest. Reckon that whole process takes about 60 seconds if that.

guerdyguatd · 05/07/2025 16:23

But I don't have dry skin so never see much difference. It also takes me longer than a minute because I like to massage & be fully dry before dressing.

Snorlaxo · 05/07/2025 16:23

I moisturise after every shower because my skin is dry.

ItsFridayIminLoveJS · 05/07/2025 16:27

It's just part of your shower routine isn't it?
Ive used it scince l was about 16 and im 66 now..it's only like putting moisturiser on your face and neck.
I have swapped now to Nievea firming lotion for mature skin..
It's absolutely gorgeous.

Givingup2025 · 05/07/2025 16:29

I seldom do it everyday but I do use a spray moisturiser which takes literally seconds to spray all over possibly 1-2 times a week!

whatcanthematterbe81 · 05/07/2025 16:30

Who doesn’t have two minutes?

Bluebay · 05/07/2025 16:31

I don't put anything on my skin - not even soap, except to wash my hands. I suppose the rest of me gets a bit of soap once a week when I shampoo my hair. I shower with plain water.
Don't use lotions, makeup, apart from factor 50 sunscreen on sunny days.

irregularegular · 05/07/2025 16:31

I've just recently tried to make it a habit. At very least on my legs. It really takes less than a minute if the body lotion is easily to hand.

MrsSethGecko · 05/07/2025 16:33

I can't be bothered putting moisturiser anywhere except my face, to be honest, but I wouldn't buy a shower gel that was specifically for "people who don't lotion every day" either. I'm not paying for terrible grammar. (See also Yorkshire Tea and "Proper.") Yes that's being ridiculous, and I don't care.
(Products that "talk" to me in the first person can fuck off too.)

Can't stand that ad. Lotion is a noun, not a verb.
How hard is it to say 'use lotion'?
I mean, do you toothpaste everyday? Lipstick every day? (For example.)
Pah. Grumbles off to pedants' corner.

Love your response 😂

So agree about verbs that should be nouns. We have ex-pat friends who now live in the USA who visit us & then go out 'antiqueing' eg: visit antique shops, who go 'vacationing'. DH takes the piss by asking if they would like to go 'coffeeing' or 'lunching' when we're out 😂

I apply body lotion every single day, usually twice a day. I’ve done it since I was a teen. My husband does it too. He’s more particular than I am and buys his favourite body lotion on bulk order!

It takes no time 🤷‍♀️

DappledThings · 05/07/2025 16:35

I find it tedious enough getting dry after a shower without having to add in an extra step after I've managed to get myself dry.

Simonjt · 05/07/2025 16:35

A significant majority of black and brown people moisturise their body everyday.

PashaMinaMio · 05/07/2025 16:36

I’ve used body lotion all over (as far as I can reach) all my adult life.
I’ll use anything, cheap, expensive, baby oil, the lot.
I love the moisturised feel and I can’t imagine not doing so. It only takes a minute and is an essential part of mg good grooming routine. 😉

Cheeseplantandcrackers · 05/07/2025 16:36

It takes a couple of minutes after a shower. I don’t have dry skin (never have). I just really like the smell and feel of my lotion.

My ex used to make a mix of things with shea butter in, it smelled gorgeous! He was always concerned about his skin looking ashy

SwedishEdith · 05/07/2025 16:38

Only after sun lotion if I've caught the sun or moisturiser on my face because I wash with soap and water 😧. Occasionally I might use something on my legs after I've shaved but that's usually because someone has bought me something and I want to try it or use it up. I never realised all over moisturising was A Thing until I read a similar thread a few months ago. I dislike the sticky feeling on my skin.

PuppyMonkey · 05/07/2025 16:38

I mean I’ve never actually timed this activity but of all the things I have to get done in my day, applying body lotion is pretty low down in terms of labour intensity. Grin

Tinytigertail · 05/07/2025 16:38

I moisturise daily, it really doesn't take more than a couple of minutes, hardly a big time commitment.

FortyElephants · 05/07/2025 16:39

Me, I have dry skin, it literally takes a minute to do, hardly a chore

Why not soap?!

Never used soap - my mother always said that soap dries your skin out which is true.

It also leaves a scum on the shower. I have shower gel- supermarket own brand similar to the one that's advertised & DH has his Lynx.

My DS had eczema as a small child & I used to use the herb soapwort (I grew it in the garden) on his skin. Boiled it up, put it into a container & was fabulous for him.
