The owner of hate forum Tattle Life has today been legally named as Sebastian Bond. He also goes by the alias Bastian Durward. He has tried to flee to Asia to avoid paying his legal costs.

It's the Barbra Streisand effect in action, as reading that article I'm now intrigued by the named NI couple -who are they, and what was alleged about them?

But good for them, the courts found inntheir favour.

Gingerkittykat · 13/06/2025 18:30

I wonder what it means for the site. Will more people now sue them? Will the site end up having to close because of the frozen assets?

TBH it really needs to close as there is some awful stuff on there.... and some pretty toxic posters.

God it is a horrible site. I know 2 influencers from childhood who both feature heavily there. One of them is very media savvy so I think she probably has some monkeys in the forums manipulating the narrative, plus I have personal experience of her shenanigans so I wouldn’t worry about her too much. The other was successful as a model quite young so the influencing situation fell in her lap as far as I can tell. She was always so lovely, her photos and clips are beautifully done and she collaborates with tasteful and conscientious small brands. She’s also very honest and doesn’t airbrush herself into oblivion. The “best” kind of influencer imo. She gets torn to absolute shreds, I find it painful to read and I haven’t seen or spoken to her in 10 years. I don’t have an iota as to how people, mainly women, find it in themselves to be so heinous and cruel to someone they’ve never met. What do people get out of behaving like that online??

Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 13/06/2025 19:16

Crikey.
Are they banned from talking about this on there? I just had a quick look and there didn't seem to be anything.

ungratefulcat · 13/06/2025 19:18

There were people on there being horribly nasty about people who post publicly about life with disabilities.

It's a really vile site

Honestly I don’t think the people on there would care too much about it. They’re just as complicit.

But why would you read the site if it upsets you so much.

I've never heard of this site but now I have. There's no way I'm going to go in and read what idiots say on there. It just gives them oxygen

It's like the other thread on here about the Indian air crash. I mean why do people read comments and then repost them and give them oxygen? It makes no sense.

Surely everyone knows that there are vile people in the world. You just ignore them.

I’ll happily name myself. I have nothing to be ashamed about here or there. Some people on the site are vile. Lots here are just as vile. Mumsnet is not the place you think it is if you think everyone is genuine here.

CountFucula · 13/06/2025 20:26

I found the site’s robust (putting it mildly) challenge of Jack Monroe highly entertaining - as she was outed as such a grifter (their term)- and used to read those threads gleefully.

Same could be said for MN. Some people are vile on here.

idonethisthing · 13/06/2025 20:31

If he hasn’t said anything directly, there’s no legal action they can take surely? There are much worse forums out there. They’ll have to chase the individual posters for their libellous comments. He’s not guilty of opinion.

I don’t! It’s been mentioned here a few times and I admit I’ve gone down a rabbit hole once or twice. Reading is a bit of a stretch.

Sarah2891 · 13/06/2025 20:36

Some threads on there are very toxic and nasty but some are fine. Like on here.

I’ve never been personally victimised here - and I’m talking ‘in real life’ situations where my safety has been a concern. I have from tattle. Mumsnet hasn’t made me suicidal. Tattle has.

EmeraldRoulette · 13/06/2025 20:41

meant to quote @idonethisthing

The case isn't about being vile is it? It's about harassment and defamation.

And people saying they feared for their safety and had to make reports to police. This is the first I've heard of it, but that looks pretty serious.

So what were they doing? Allowing doxxing? If it's proven that the owners were encouraging people to do things that threatened the safety of others that would explain the court case.

No one's going to have a court case brought against them just for gossip.

Fupoffyagrasshole · 13/06/2025 20:42

Everyone on tattle is only being mean about people who post their lives in public

they users are mostly very nice to each other

unlike this site where people are vile and nasty to other users.

Im really sorry to see that, it’s sad times when the internet has such a chokehold over people’s mental health. Many years ago I had a good sized online following prior to the market for bloggers etc being saturated but I couldn’t handle the nasty comments so I got rid of all platforms. I do think anything that invites people to share their opinions on you means as a person you have to have a really tough skin. Im sorry the internet put you in a dark place.

If he owns and runs the site and has allowed libelous comment to be posted and remain on the site without censure, then he could be held to account ? Although I think you are right and maybe it is time for the courts to go after random individuals too, so that people pause before posting in the future ?

It's really not, I'm not a member but do read a few of the influencer threads and some of the stuff that's posted is downright nasty. You wouldn't be allowed to post that on here
