So many of you say this stuff is amazing so my partner got us some to try. Soooo what's the best way to eat it? On toast with avocado, or straight out the pot with a ladle?!

On jacket potato if you ask me

EndlesslyDecluttering · 11/05/2025 18:39

I like it either on its own with lots of black pepper or chives or on top of toast and marmite.

BlackboardMonitorVimes · 11/05/2025 18:40

I didn’t realise that people rave about this, but I buy it and love it so would agree with them.

I love it on toast with other toppings like salmon, avocado, tomatoes. Actually my favourite is cottage cheese, tomato and ground pepper.

Iudncuewbccgrcb · 11/05/2025 18:40

I just eat it neat from the pot.

frozendaisy · 11/05/2025 18:41

On top of huevos rancheros (for lunch/brunch)

BeNiceWhenItsFinished · 11/05/2025 18:41

I haven't had cottage cheese for years... might have to get some again.

nannyl · 11/05/2025 18:42

Yes its delicous.

I normally have mine with a Jacket potatoe.

I live just very close to Longley farm so have been buying it for over a decade.
Just a shame that their shop / ice cream parlour where I could buy it direct closed during covid.... but most of the local independant shops / farm shops and even all my nearby supermarkets stock it too.

Their butter is also exceptionally nice.

Their cows look happy when i drive past!

Crikeyalmighty · 11/05/2025 18:42

I eat a whole large pot of the chives one- straight from the tub love it !!but also very nice on nairns cheese oatcakes or on jacket potatoes - no one else’s comes near

Dreichweather · 11/05/2025 18:43

I haven’t tried it but their yoghurts are amazing.

Crikeyalmighty · 11/05/2025 18:43

@nannyl where is it out of interest??

jerrywesterby · 11/05/2025 18:45

My absolute favourite…. Mixed with a chopped boiled egg instead of egg mayo… loads of black pepper… or a big dollop on top of pasta pesto… or with some roasted veg and bacon…..

I have mine on marmite ricecakes

Foodfiend2025 · 11/05/2025 18:49

Thanks ladies! Mouth is watering right now, will try all of these!

Is it good to have as a sweet version too with fruit/honey etc, or best savoury?

OP posts:

I have previously chopped prunes and put them in it for something sweet

I love it with marmite as well (but obvs not both together!!)

Sewaccidentprone · 11/05/2025 18:53

They used to sell it in Home Bargains and was only £1.39

Then they stopped and I can’t find anywhere which sells it cheaper than £1.70 a pot.

I love it on sesame ryvita with baby toms. But also jacket potatoes, salads etc.

i buy the cheap own brand stuff to make the Jamie Oliver sweet potato muffins

AdaColeman · 11/05/2025 18:55

I add some prawns, Tabasco sauce, and chopped gherkins or cucumber, makes a lovely sandwich filling with lettuce, or I stuff a large tomato with it for a quick lunch.

Pancakeflipper · 11/05/2025 18:56

Any type of cracker. Particulary like it with Nairns oatcakes.
Sprinkle pepper on top of the plain one.

CountryQueen · 11/05/2025 18:56

So weird. 2 people have mentioned this to me separately in the last few days and now this thread.

Its hardly a new thing, is there some new marketing campaign going on 🤔

stringsoup · 11/05/2025 19:07

Not that I know of but i've been eating it on oatcakes for years

Aparecium · 11/05/2025 19:12

Straight out of the pot!

Or with an unfussy salad. It's a rich cottage cheese, nicely set off by a fresh, clean salad.

Or with a sharp relish, like lime pickle.

Or with strawberry jam as a dessert. Or honey.

Or just with a teaspoon 😋

slidingsideways · 11/05/2025 19:15

It’s so good!! Whenever the supermarket own brand one is sold out I’m secretly punching the air cos I have to get the good stuff. With avocado on toast for me, or smashed peas
