So many of you say this stuff is amazing so my partner got us some to try. Soooo what's the best way to eat it? On toast with avocado, or straight out the pot with a ladle?!

They sell Longley Farm in Home Bargains and Iceland.

Its not 'trendy', its simply one of very very few full fat cottage cheeses you can buy. At one time Lidl (or Aldi, I get them muddled) did a full fat cottage cheese, delicious and more reliable to get hold of than LF

However as with those stores, after a while they stop doing it, it then became unreliable to get hold of it

Most other supermarkets sell as an automatic low fat or the god awful fat free. Disgusting.

What I cannot fathom is the need for such a product, cottage cheese is a low fat item over all, in the grand scheme of things. Theres no need to limit consumer choice to low or fat free.

Even the odd store that occasionally does their own brand full fat cottage cheese is sloppy, wet and has a bitterness to it that LF doesnt have.

I have to say I disagree, I have both Waitrose and Sainsburys normal ones regularly when I can't get LF and they taste fine, not sloppy, wet or bitter and only very slightly lower in fat than LF, never any problem finding them, they are always there alongside the low-fat / fat-free versions.

I like it on pumpernickel.

HauntedBungalow · 12/05/2025 22:38

It's a lot more expensive than it used to be.

I tried that paysun breton after reading about it on here on a thread similar to this
And it was awful

Nooooo it’s so good! Why didn’t you like it?

I don't know, my taste buds didn't like it 😂

Was just thinking the same, it's a lot cheaper on the website for collection. Those lucky people that live near by!

I started reading this post and thinking, what's this new fangled posh cheese they are talking about now, but then reading the name again I'm thinking is that the cottage cheese with the flying cow on the front? Have to agree this stuff is ace. Full fat CC, like full fat yogurt, are extremely hard to get these days, but is well worth hunting down. Last time I was on a health crusade, going to the gym and eating 'healthy', healthy being low carb, high fat and high protein, I'd drive my missus nuts trying to find this cottage cheese, it's truly wonderful stuff.

maybeuptight · 12/05/2025 23:20

They have a pineapple one that is very nice

BombayBicycleclub · 12/05/2025 23:59

I love it !

Trust me, if you're used to Longley Farm, they are sloppy, wet and bitter, they just don't compare.

I even bought a Polish variety after seeing that as a recommended alternative and despite having the same fat content, that was rubbish too.

Changeissmall · 13/05/2025 06:22

Bizarre to see this thread as I thought I was the only LF obsessive! Didn’t know it was having a moment and no I am not from their marketing team.
Yrs. Iceland sometimes have it. I usually make do with the Lidl one though which is OK if you pour the bit of whey off.

We'll have to agree to disagree, I am used to LF and they are fine, it's just the low fat ones that are best avoided.

CandidLurker · 13/05/2025 07:05

I’ve been eating this for years. I eat it with lots of evening meals as it goes so well with anything non sauce based. So with vegetables or salad. My local NiSa store which stocks a lot of Co-op products has it. And also does the smaller pots. Sainsbury’s has it and Ocado. Selfishly I hope I don’t struggle to buy it now it seems to have been “discovered”. I also just eat it straight from the pot. Once saw a man on a train eat an entire pot of it in one go - not with biscuits or anything.

Bjorkdidit · 13/05/2025 07:12

I quite often have a pot as breakfast or lunch on the go.

If I can prepare it at home, I'll add some cucumber, cherry tomatoes, black pepper and a drizzle of olive oil, but even on it's own it's a good, cheap, portable lunch or breakfast as an alternative to prepack sandwiches etc.

Samcro · 13/05/2025 07:23

the chive one, in a ham sandwich.....love it.

soupyspoon · 13/05/2025 07:32

Is anyone else like me, I dont like it cold, I like it at room temperature. Thats how all cheese should be served in any case

You’re wrong. It is trending on TikTok. And that’s why nobody can find the bloody stuff.

slidingsideways · 11/05/2025 19:15

It’s so good!! Whenever the supermarket own brand one is sold out I’m secretly punching the air cos I have to get the good stuff. With avocado on toast for me, or smashed peas

Aww just buy the good cottage cheese all the time. Treat yourself.

CountryQueen · 13/05/2025 08:28

soupyspoon · 12/05/2025 08:06

Its not a special artisan product, where are you getting that idea from?

Its one of very few full fat cottage cheeses you can buy, thats why.

God knows why its so difficult to find in shops though

Telling everyone they are wrong. It’s not trendy, it’s not become viewed as a special artisan product.

Then admitting you don’t know why it’s flying off the shelves at the moment and hard to find 🤣

TikTok love. Cause it’s trendy and the young uns think it’s a special artisan product

MoistVonL · 13/05/2025 08:53

In fairness, it is an artisanal product - it’s made by a family business in quantities too small to supply the supermarkets and it is of a much higher quality than the rest of the stuff on the market.

Just because we’ve been buying it locally since the 80s doesn’t mean it isn’t special. Artisan food isn’t just wanky stuff from ex pop stars in the Cotswolds. Regional family firms doing a ruddy good job can be appreciated too.

purpleme12 · 13/05/2025 08:54

I always find it in supermarkets

CoastalCalm · 13/05/2025 21:53

I had some with an egg scrambled today and was really surprised how cheesy it tasted - usually I only ever have it cold or use it in recipe for school style cheese flan

LIZS · 13/05/2025 22:09

Morrisons used to sell it and the yogurts.

EstherGreenwood63 · 14/05/2025 09:56

It IS the Queen of cottage cheeses. Really hard to find down here in Hampshire. Asda only have the low fat version which is NOT the queen of cottage cheeses. It was everywhere up North. Sad.
