So many of you say this stuff is amazing so my partner got us some to try. Soooo what's the best way to eat it? On toast with avocado, or straight out the pot with a ladle?!

I use it to make syrniki (Ukrainian/Russian pancakes)

Could you possibly share the recipe please?

I used it when I made pierogi and it worked so well.

Iceland sell Longley Farm, also Poundland do too, the one near me definitely does, I saw it in there on Saturday. £1.25 a pot.

Another one who has been raised on Longley Farm..😁 quite amused to see its suddenly become 'trendy'

Here's a picture of the Longley Herd 🥰

LF full fat cream cheese is delicious. Nothing like Philly

My Home Bargains didn’t have it either the other day. It looks like it’s been replaced by Grahams 😞

That’s the one that came top in the telegraph taste test

No problem. I used a recipe from bitten.bitess on instagram.

400g curd cheese, ideally 9% fat (langley works fine)
1egg
2 tbsp flour + extra for coating
1tbsp cornflour
1tsp sugar
pinch of salt

I think traditional Eastern European curd cheeses are a bit “drier”, and some recipes I read before suggest to drain regular cottage cheese before mixing it in.
You need to be able to shape them with your hands, so you might need to add on extra flour.

HarryVanderspeigle · 12/05/2025 10:13

I like it with rosemary crackers. Getting inspired here though.

Crikeyalmighty · 12/05/2025 10:19

@soupyspoon I suspect it’s because they have restricted the manufacturing capacity in order to still make a decent profit and hence there’s only so much to go around - - hence it’s easier to supply at a lower scale rather than to Tescos or Sainsbury’s etc who may well want massive quantities at huge discounts .

I think the PP was comparing it to Philly in terms of whether it was “sweet or savoury” as asked by an earlier poster.

Like cream cheese it can be either - lovely with honey and figs or used in a dessert, also lovely with chives on a baked spud or with chutney on a cracker.

If you are unable to find LF cottage cheese, and you have a Polish grocery shop nearby, it's worth trying their cottage cheese, as it's often very good.

Cottage cheese is very popular in Poland, often eaten for breakfast with plenty of fresh chopped herbs stirred in, to wake up your taste buds.

Love Longley Farm cottage cheese.

BurntBroccoli · 12/05/2025 12:13

They also do gorgeous yogurts. No sweetner thank goodness! The rhubarb one is my fave.

girlmeetsboy · 12/05/2025 12:49

I must try this - does anyone remember the M & S flavoured ones in the 90's?

My favourite was coronation chicken but I think they old sold a prawn one and maybe a tomato one!

soupyspoon · 12/05/2025 21:07

Just a word about Philadelphia and some other cream cheeses, they have guar gum in them. At the moment Tesco doesnt. However in the past I found they did and used to buy Aldi, now I find Aldi's has the gum in it as well.

BlackPantherPrincess · 12/05/2025 21:08

I like it on crispbread or flatbreads.

Hkgyvd · 12/05/2025 21:40

It's delicious, I just eat it straight from the pot.
If you see any Longley Farm cream cheese in the shops BUY IT it's insanely good. Proper thick cream cheese...mmmm

Yes, Sainsburys own is pure cheese still and I think Waitrose is.

I agree that Paysan Breton is leagues ahead of the others though.

purpleme12 · 12/05/2025 21:44

I tried that paysun breton after reading about it on here on a thread similar to this
And it was awful

Its not 'trendy', its simply one of very very few full fat cottage cheeses you can buy. At one time Lidl (or Aldi, I get them muddled) did a full fat cottage cheese, delicious and more reliable to get hold of than LF

However as with those stores, after a while they stop doing it, it then became unreliable to get hold of it

Most other supermarkets sell as an automatic low fat or the god awful fat free. Disgusting.

What I cannot fathom is the need for such a product, cottage cheese is a low fat item over all, in the grand scheme of things. Theres no need to limit consumer choice to low or fat free.

Even the odd store that occasionally does their own brand full fat cottage cheese is sloppy, wet and has a bitterness to it that LF doesnt have.

Foodfiend2025 · 12/05/2025 21:54

I had it tonight and it did not disappoint! Sourdough flatbread, with mashed avocado, the cottage cheese, and topped with a fried egg. Was scrummy!

The Lidl one is brilliant, I got 3 recently and it’s creamy and drier than most

Aldi at the minute only seems to have low fat in

butterfly0404 · 12/05/2025 22:13

I've been buying it from Poundland for years, hands down the best cottage cheese bar none.

I fully expect my Poundland secret to be well and truly shafted now :-)

coxesorangepippin · 12/05/2025 22:15

Really good with blueberries
