I have purchased the longley farm cottage cheese that everyone raves about!

So many of you say this stuff is amazing so my partner got us some to try. Soooo what's the best way to eat it? On toast with avocado, or straight out the pot with a ladle?!

They used to sell it in Home Bargains and was only £1.39

Then they stopped and I can’t find anywhere which sells it cheaper than £1.70 a pot.

I love it on sesame ryvita with baby toms. But also jacket potatoes, salads etc.

i buy the cheap own brand stuff to make the Jamie Oliver sweet potato muffins

They sell it in Poundland for £1.25

Takeoutyourcow · 11/05/2025 22:38

My milkman delivers it. I get two pots a week for £1.57 each. I also get the Longley Farm yogurts for DH and DS.

Choux · 11/05/2025 22:59

Amazing. This thread has just reminded me that I bought some when I went to Asda a couple of weeks ago and it was in my fridge somewhere. It’s hard to find in London so I rarely have it. I just checked the date worrying it might already be out of date but it’s best before end of Tuesday! Yummy. Think I will have it on a jacket potato.

So weird. 2 people have mentioned this to me separately in the last few days and now this thread.

Its hardly a new thing, is there some new marketing campaign going on 🤔

I have never heard anyone talk about it but clicked on the thread because I love the stuff and was amused to discover there is a mumsnet cult following.

OP, I eat it straight from the pot with a spoon, usually a whole pot at a time. If being more restrained I eat a portion on Ryvita dark rye.

Pyjamatimenow · 11/05/2025 23:01

I have the chive one on a jacket potato or with nice crackers. It’s yum

JustSawJohnny · 11/05/2025 23:04

Is everyone buying the plain?

I tend to get with chives and just eat it on crackers.

I tried the pineapple but the chunks were rock hard. Wasn't a fan.

CaravaggiosCat · 11/05/2025 23:07

Dates/honey, mixed nuts and fruit, usually banana or blueberries 😋

Lindy2 · 11/05/2025 23:08

I've only recently discovered this. I got some in Home Bargains and it was just like the cottage cheese I remember and love from my childhood. Firm but creamy and with lots of flavour.

Unfortunately, when I went to Home Bargains today there was another brand for sale which is just the usual wet, tasteless slop. I need to find somewhere else that sells Longley.

DragonCity · 11/05/2025 23:20

Haven't had it for years, not since I moved away from Booths territory. But I used to make a crusty sandwich with posh butter, proper ham, chopped up pineapple (controversial?)and cottage cheese.

GreenFressia · 11/05/2025 23:24

Oh wow will have to try this. I got into cottage cheese and my absolute favourite is mixed with boiled egg in place of mayo. Also goes well with scrambled eggs. I deliberately buy fat free but then add extra virgin olive oil for healthy fat.

JayJayj · 11/05/2025 23:32

It’s definitely the best cottage cheese!! I like it in crisp bread as a snack.
With a salad.
Chinese chicken pitas.
A spoon.

lovegoodlovegood · 11/05/2025 23:41

My new fave is pesto, cottage cheese and sundried tomatoes on toast

If you can’t find it, I tried the Lidl full fat one today and it was close. A lot drier almost and creamier than other places

TaggieO · 11/05/2025 23:48

Baked sweet potato, butter, the plain cottage cheese, loads of black pepper, chopped chives and some finely chopped up very crispy bacon. YUM.

Contraryjane · 11/05/2025 23:53

The Telegraph on Saturday did a taste test of cottage cheeses and it came out top.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 12/05/2025 05:56

Waves at @nannyl and @Pedallleur. My nearest town. I was folk festivalling at the weekend.

Vates · 12/05/2025 06:51

I have always enjoyed cottage cheese but the full fat chive one is absolutely delicious. I eat it piled high on crackers or straight from the pot!

Bjorkdidit · 12/05/2025 07:34

This thread is so funny. I've lived in Yorkshire all my life and LF cottage cheese has been the basic ordinary cottage cheese that I've been eating for decades. Yet it's suddenly a 'special artisan luxury' product.

But people say the same about our fish and chips. Southern journos raving about the likes of the Magpie cafe in Whitby, which aren't even as good as the ordinary suburban chippy at the end of our road. Or Waitrose displaying Seabrooks Crisps, that were the slightly crap second choice to Walkers when I was growing up on the 'interesting extra nice local produce' end of aisle sections.

Top tip for anyone reasonably local. After being unable to find it in supermarkets due to it being 'discovered' by Tiktokers I found out that you can buy it direct from the farm, cheaper than in supermarkets and with more choice of sizes - they do a 450 g pot for less than the price of a standard 250 g pot. They also have a wide range of yogurts that I've never seen in supermarkets, butter, cream etc. I go hill walking most weekends, so every few weeks make an order to click and collect from refrigerated lockers that are accessible 24/7 and combine the visit with a walk in the area to make it worth the trip. The use by dates have always been 3-4 weeks and in my experience it's fine for at least a couple of weeks after that.

Waves at @IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads @nannyl and @Pedallleur . If we bump into each other by the LF click and collect lockers, we'll have to give each other a special MN sign.

My Home Bargains didn’t have it either the other day. It looks like it’s been replaced by Grahams 😞

Try Asda or Morrisons, both near me sell it.

DeathMetalMum · 12/05/2025 07:56

Following, we have a heron foods nearby that sells it. I have bought a couple of pots recently but always end up just eating it out of the pot, except the one time I had some with a jacket potato.

My nan used to always have cottage cheese when I was a child. And I remember having it with her but can't remember how we actually ate it.

Its not a special artisan product, where are you getting that idea from?

Its one of very few full fat cottage cheeses you can buy, thats why.

God knows why its so difficult to find in shops though

Myblueclematis · 12/05/2025 08:10

I usually eat it straight out of the tub, I like the pineapple one with salad.

I also use the plain cottage cheese on fruit as a topping instead of cream/ice cream etc. It's lovely on fresh strawberries or raspberries.

wisteriadrive · 12/05/2025 08:17

What exactly is cottage cheese ?! I’ve clearly heard of it but don’t really know what it is or how to eat it 😆
