Tell me some things you buy in your weekly shop that I might not

Just thinking of all the thousands of things in the supermarket, and I end up chucking the same things in my online shop every week just out of habit. So there must be things other people chuck in that I never do! I promise to add some of them to my shop this week and try them!

Gochujang paste makes any stir fry delicious.

Harissa sprinkled on roast chicken. The juices make amazing gravy.

Swedish glace frozen vanilla dessert - delicious and vegan, so it's something my whole family can all enjoy.

I'd been meaning to try gnocchi, got some last week (fresh pasta section) and had with green pesto (the Filippo Berio one is ++ nicer than Sacla or own-brand, if it's available) with some green veg I had in, and some parmesan on top. Absolutely delicious, plus the gnocchi only takes 6 mins to cook. I'll definitely be getting it again.

I'm a bit addicted to the Border dark-chocolate covered ginger biscuits, I get the little oblong wrapped ones to take to work.

I'm trying to eat gut friendly stuff so recently bought sauerkraut, and keffir yoghurts.

I buy dates (the nice plump taste the difference ones) and mixed nuts plus a bag of raisins for the healthy snack drawer.

MumonabikeE5 · 25/02/2025 00:34

Nutritional yeast. I add it to my (full dairy) home made bechamel sauce, for extra cheesiness and additional B12, fibre and protein.

ComtesseDeSpair · 25/02/2025 00:36

Frozen okra - as well as taste and texture it’s great for thickening soups and stews without flour / a roux.

Frozen sofrito - again, soups and stews: my life is too short to dice that finely.

Gilberts chopped liver - really good authentic Jewish-style pate, which I can never get the texture right for making it at home.

If you’ve an Aldi, the unroasted and unsalted nuts (cashews, brazils, macadamias) are really good value.

IlovePond · 25/02/2025 00:42

I second gochujang paste - I put it in almost everything atm! I get through a lot of sushi rice and black sesame seeds too.

I also like pumpkin seeds.

bluesatin · 25/02/2025 00:44

Grapes, Stilton, Allioli.
