Tell me some things you buy in your weekly shop that I might not

Just thinking of all the thousands of things in the supermarket, and I end up chucking the same things in my online shop every week just out of habit. So there must be things other people chuck in that I never do! I promise to add some of them to my shop this week and try them!

Chovi Spanish allioli (garlic) sauce. So gorgeous. I like it with tortilla chips but also good with a crusty baguette.
Feta cheese (well a cheep Greek salad cheese equivalent for me if I’m honest) delicious on cream crackers with tapenade or green olives.

This is all terribly middle class!

coxesorangepippin · 25/02/2025 01:34

Red lentils for soups

StarCourt · 25/02/2025 02:17

Yep, agreed, but good thread this one...

And in the food context, middle class doesn't not necessary mean 'much more expensive' - just different stuff that you might get into and enjoy...

Like when I as introduced to hummus at uni in 1990.

I've been literally 97.3 per cent hummus since about 1998 - so grateful to my middle class friend Vikash from Nottingham for that.

What can I add here...? Dunno but I absolutely love nice black puddings and poached eggs for brunch.

And red berries/blackcurrant/cranberry fruit tea bags/infusions have taken me away from caffeine recently.

Don’t worry, I was just about to lower the tone Grin

Prunes, tons of prunes! My bowel is still on strike 9 weeks post C-section so I need a little help.

By the way, NMJ, I but Sainsbury's own brand marmite (just as delish) to save money for sun-dried tomatoes or something poncey 😝

You what???? Mockingbird juices ???

https://mockingbirdrawpress.com/

Fear not, no mockingbirds were squeezed in the making of this juice.

Anything unprocessed.

🙄😂

Ilovelowry · 25/02/2025 03:15

Oooh this is a good thread op.

I buy tins of unsweetened peanut butter from ocado. The fake one from aldi is too runny.
A lot of 5% beef mince
Half side of salmon
Avocados
Kefir quark
Fage Greek Yoghurt
Blueberries
Fish in olive oil

Gochujang paste makes any stir fry delicious.

Harissa sprinkled on roast chicken. The juices make amazing gravy.

Swedish glace frozen vanilla dessert - delicious and vegan, so it's something my whole family can all enjoy.

Can you get the pear flavour of Swedish Glace? Because that is the best flavour. I loved nicking my allergic-to-dairy brother's ice cream when it was the pear flavour Swedish Glace!

Natsku · 25/02/2025 04:11

Sour cream and powdered dip to mix into it - love dipping carrot and cucumber sticks in it.
Raspberry kefir - DS loves it, even though he says its "spicy"
At this time of year - pasha, though perhaps you can't get that in the UK. Its delicious though but only sold in the Easter season.

GoldenLegend · 25/02/2025 05:00

Bonne Maman apricot compote to go on my porridge
Chavroux goat cheese to grill for salads
Chipotle chilli
Golden kiwi fruit

Preciousssssss · 25/02/2025 05:23

Everything here:

Hodmedods

Not supermarket, not weekly - I tend to buy in bulk every two or three months. All the wholefoods you could possibly want - mostly actually grown in the UK. Plus recipes on the site for almost every item.

Honestly lifechanging.

HRTQueen · 25/02/2025 06:40

Last week I bought a packet of Jam Mallows Biscuits

I have not had them years

I’m going back to the shop (slightly out of the way) to buy another pack or two

ShiftySquirrel · 25/02/2025 06:49

Frozen chopped onions every single week. Game changer.
Frozen carrots, onions and celery occasionally when I see them too.

They completely remove the boring, eye stinging job of chopping onions for 5 to 10 minutes before cooking anything tasty.

BobnLen · 25/02/2025 06:50

Waitrose double cream Brie

Notgoodatpoetrybutgreatatlit · 25/02/2025 06:52

Masses of parsley, mint and lemons. I'm addicted to tabbouleh.

I love that. Do you have a good recipe?

BobnLen · 25/02/2025 06:52

Double yolk eggs
