Tell me some things you buy in your weekly shop that I might not

Just thinking of all the thousands of things in the supermarket, and I end up chucking the same things in my online shop every week just out of habit. So there must be things other people chuck in that I never do! I promise to add some of them to my shop this week and try them!

Hampshire game wild venison strips are great if you shop at Ocado. They are much cheaper than the equivalent beef product, and they are really versatile. Hopefully a bit better for the environment foo

Game is the one thing I miss from my carnivorous years …

Used to be so much fun queuing up outside the butchers.

Masses of parsley, mint and lemons. I'm addicted to tabbouleh.

Sorry this made me Grin

EveryOtherNameTaken · 25/02/2025 08:49

Frozen mixed Mediterranean veg
Microwave brown rice
Wholegrain couscous
Fresh makerel
Prawns

UninterestingFirstPost · 25/02/2025 08:50

Tahini (to eat on toast with honey)

miIIicant · 25/02/2025 08:53

tins of butter beans. I love making a butterbean, olive oil, honey, lemon casserole. It's a great salad/snack for the week.

Also this recipe (which I don't completely stick to) is lovely and filling and full of protein https://www.waitrose.com/ecom/recipe/cherry-tomato-butter-bean-harissa-soup?srsltid=AfmBOorkwXguH2-DKuIe82FA-kEZmOrPMCrQaqe2ahovimRnyoAoC-7M

I was thinking that. I was going to put greggs frozen sausage rolls from Iceland but i wont bother. About 3/4 of the food here I've never heard of and i used to work in waitrose Grin

We should do a Heron/Morrison’s/Lidl version. For Heron i keep an eye out in the chilled section, often Rachel’s yogurts, the crab pate dh likes(half the price of Sainsbury’s) and last time they also had chicken liver pate which was so good I neglected to tell dh about it. He also (being a pleb) likes the Mayflower frozen chips and curry sauce. And tge lucky dip of their unbranded frozen stuff. Tesco’s gf corned beef hash and cheese crisp bakes. 6 for the same price of 2.

GooseberryBeret · 25/02/2025 08:55

Multi-packs of sesame snaps from the international food aisle, the ones that are sesame seeds stuck together with sugar syrup.

Gifflar cinnamon rolls

Mama instant noodles, ‘kimchi’ flavour (they don’t really taste of kimchi), with half a bag of stir fry veg it’s my new favourite wfh lunch.

Geeta mango chutney. When we have curry takeaway I put some in a little pot instead of getting the restaurant mango chutney.

Large tubs of Pip & Nut almond butter. We are currently obsessed with it.

Amazon is the best value for this. I have a teen who devours it, can't keep up!

DinoLil · 25/02/2025 08:58

Frozen butternut squash
Frozen white fish fillets
Chicken livers

Thank you Ddog and your darn recovery from ileus and thank you DVet and your darn liver cake recipe!

Winterscoming77 · 25/02/2025 08:59

I go to the local shop most days because I can’t face the big shop but when I do I stock up on things I can’t get anywhere else like cauliflower rice, curry pastes, chapatis and anything from the ‘world foods’ aisle

TantrumsAndBalloons · 25/02/2025 08:59

Kombucha
"proper" greek yoghurt
twin pack of digestive biscuits
Tesco red berries tea

Igneococcus · 25/02/2025 08:59

And red berries/blackcurrant/cranberry fruit tea bags/infusions have taken me away from caffeine recently.

The Rose, Hibiscus and Red Berries tea from Good Earth that Lidl occasionally has as a special is the best fruity tea ever.

Winterscoming77 · 25/02/2025 09:01

I go to Lidl to stock up on massive pots of Nivea moisturiser, trays and stays of cat and dog food and cat litter and all the household sprays and bin bags etc.

Anything unprocessed.

That's not exactly helpful to narrow it down to 1000+ products... We all have unprocessed stuff in our trollies.

You may as well have said "food" 😉

erinaceus · 25/02/2025 09:03

Frozen pain au chocolat. The brand is Picard.
Frozen raspberries for eating with vanilla Häagen-Dazs.
Frozen individual serving sized mixed vegetables for steaming.
Barilla red pesto past sauce.

Can you tell I live alone?

Blubbles · 25/02/2025 09:03

Nutritional Yeast (the 5 year old eats it straight from the pack 🤦‍♀️)

Flaxseed, linseeds, chia seeds etc to stir into porridge.

Nonbio46 · 25/02/2025 08:42

Bonne Maman rhubarb yogurt is delicious.

I'm going to get some, my daughter would love this!

Wigtopia · 25/02/2025 09:05
  • Butternut squash (a big one so I can use it in the diff recipes in a week)
  • frozen Mediterranean veg (gets chucked into pasta sauces)
  • massive bunches of fresh herbs (dill for soups and savoury pancakes, parsley for pasta dishes/ salads and corriander for salads / Middle Eastern / Asian/ southeast Asian dishes)
  • courgettes - I get through loads of these each week in either pasta dishes, curries and in courgette, feta and chilli scones
BaronessBomburst · 25/02/2025 09:07

Grapefruit
Massively underrated. They also go very well in a salad with smoked salmon and rocket.

IHeartKingThistle · 25/02/2025 09:08

Ooh these are exciting! Currently have a basket of new things to try (none of which go together LOL).

Not weekly but sweet drop peppers from Sainsburys, teeny little explosions of flavour, smaller than a cherry tomato.
Jarred roasted peppers
Peppadew sweet piquante peppers and yes I realise it is a theme
Squeezy garlic
Flour as Dh makes his own bread and baguettes
Fresh coriander and green chillies for homemade salsa, I used tinned tomatoes and also chipotle goes in it.

I am loving these suggestions and @Semiramide has reminded me I love tabbouleh so should be making some more of that to eat with shawarma chicken, hummus and flatbreads.

LollyWillow · 25/02/2025 09:11

Spinach - I get through mountains of it
Waitrose no 1 greek yoghurt
Duchy eggs - I used to get Burford browns but I switched, I 1think because I was looking for boxes with mixed sizes. Anyway, I think they're as good.
Miso - usually white
Fried tofu puffs
Big bunches of parsley and coriander (I'm definitely going to crack growing coriander this year)
Tahini - I recently discovered that you can buy chocolate tahini, and then that you can stir it through yohurt, or porridge, and now I'm trying not to know this.

Bonne Maman rhubarb yogurt is delicious.

OMG

I've been trying for years to find a rhubarb yoghurt which doesn't contain thickener and have checked the ingredients on this one. A tub of Ski rhubarb yoghurt was my daily treat until for some reason it was discontinued. Every other brand seems to have thickener.

Am on a mission now 🙄😁

Preciousssssss · 25/02/2025 09:14

@Winterscoming77 is online delivery not possible for you? I’d imagine the majority of posters on the thread have all their regular groceries delivered.

Obviously there are several options. Ocado price match against Tesco (and are always sending me annoying 40p or 60p vouchers because my total exceeded the Tesco equivalent).

But I think other places may have a lower minimum order. The thought of going back to an obligatory ‘big shop’ in person is not pleasant.

CeeJay81 · 25/02/2025 09:16

Pelagonia Aivar(delicious with cheese and crackers)

Gifflar Cinnamon Rolls

Oykos Salted Caramel Yoghurts
