Tell me some things you buy in your weekly shop that I might not

Just thinking of all the thousands of things in the supermarket, and I end up chucking the same things in my online shop every week just out of habit. So there must be things other people chuck in that I never do! I promise to add some of them to my shop this week and try them!

No, that’s Mr Ottolenghi.

I went off gecko tongues a while back but then discovered owl's eyebrows. Yum!

@Blubbles but that's how I shop - sorry if it's not helpful to you. I buy whole foods mostly and cook a lot at home - I buy fruit/veg, meat, fish, butter, milk, grains, oats, flour etc.
It's harder work but that's the way I do it.

I shop that way too. But the thread was asking for specifics, not generic things ... Just seemed like you were having a little dig.

We dont have Heron up here in Glasgow, is it like asda?

No it’s a freezer shop, but a bit like the online sites like discount Dragon-so staples but then stuff that’s end of lines, new stuff that is being tried out, and just absolute bargains, like the President butter at 25p a pack I once scored.

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 25/02/2025 17:02

In Morrison’s freezer aisle they do big bags of puréed ginger, garlic or chilli. It’s all in cubes, so just Chuck it in your cooking. And it’s cheap.

MonickerMonica · 25/02/2025 18:43

@Nonbio46

Update. Tesco 4 pack of Bon Maman rhubarb yoghurts purchased this very afternoon from Tesco! I've sampled one and yes exactly what I've been missing. Delicious and I shall stock up so I never run out 🤪🥳

ChopstickNovice · 25/02/2025 18:48

Frozen parathas. Soooo good.
Soup dumplings
Honey-roast chipolata
Dukkah (so good as a dip with olive oil) if we have run out
Itsu flat noodles. I am addicted.

valder · 25/02/2025 19:04

In date fresh cream and lemonade for making three ingredient scones.

Vanilla zero cal coffee syrup

White chocolate mousse from Aldi. OMG

Frozen berries

Skinless and boneless tinned salmon.

Oh, so pleased you like them. They’re my favourite. ❤️

ilovebagpuss · 25/02/2025 19:16

Rose Harissa to have with scrambled eggs

OMG

I've been trying for years to find a rhubarb yoghurt which doesn't contain thickener and have checked the ingredients on this one. A tub of Ski rhubarb yoghurt was my daily treat until for some reason it was discontinued. Every other brand seems to have thickener.

Am on a mission now 🙄😁

Already a regular in my basket. Delicious and just realised that relatively wholesome yesterday.

Heck chicken sausage patties
Extra large Easy Peelers
skinny whip bars
Frozen peeled pearl onions
iced gems

Where do you get the frozen pearl onions? I've been looking for them for ages!

Thighdentitycrisis · 25/02/2025 19:36

Not weekly, but I’m having a phase of buying tinned evaporated milk.

CatteryCatss · 25/02/2025 19:54

Doritos
A box of choc ices
Jar of Nutella (to eat with a spoon)

StarCourt · 25/02/2025 19:57

@AtleastitsnotMonday I got them with my Ocado shopping delivery

CardinalCat · 25/02/2025 20:02

I'm trying to eat gut friendly stuff so recently bought sauerkraut, and keffir yoghurts.

I buy dates (the nice plump taste the difference ones) and mixed nuts plus a bag of raisins for the healthy snack drawer.

You can make your own versions of these really easily! And you will reap the benefits (and save money).

Bonne Maman rhubarb yogurt is delicious.

The Bonne Maman big pots are on offer in Waitrose at the moment. Try the violet fig 😋

Thank you I might look into this in future.

hereismydog · 25/02/2025 02:25

Don’t worry, I was just about to lower the tone Grin

Prunes, tons of prunes! My bowel is still on strike 9 weeks post C-section so I need a little help.

@hereismydog have you tried dried golden berries? - more fibre than prunes, always worked a treat after my 3 Csections 😊 p.s congratulations on your new arrival!

henlake7 · 25/02/2025 21:13

Sesame snaps....love 'em!

ScottChegg · 25/02/2025 21:16

Vegeta. It's a seasoning from the Polish section in Tesco and you can add it to soups and stews and things but I love it in mashed potato.

ScottChegg · 25/02/2025 21:19

Also the Lowicz syrups, also from Tesco's Polish section. They make great cocktails, as well as being very nice drunk like cordial!

Awrite · 25/02/2025 21:24

Fresh pomegranate seeds.
