Tell me some things you buy in your weekly shop that I might not

Just thinking of all the thousands of things in the supermarket, and I end up chucking the same things in my online shop every week just out of habit. So there must be things other people chuck in that I never do! I promise to add some of them to my shop this week and try them!

Frozen diced onion. Life's too short for chopping onions...

EleanorReally · 25/02/2025 06:56

brie
olives

theriseandfallofFranklinSaint · 25/02/2025 06:59

I haven't heard of most of these things...

Stick a packet of cheesy TUC crackers in your trolley - a weekly staple for me. Processed to the hilt and so tasty 😋

PrincessHoneysuckle · 25/02/2025 07:03

Crosta and Mollica pizza
Protein yoghurt
Cotton candy grapes
Burford brown eggs

Andnowshesatoddler · 25/02/2025 07:09

Vanilla coffee sugar.

@Enko
I suspect you are Waitrose fan 🙂

What makes you think that?

GameOfJones · 25/02/2025 07:40

Sabra garlic and red pepper hummus. I think I'm addicted to it! I have it on toast with zataar sprinkled on the top.

Jasons sourdough or ciabattin. No rubbish like emulsifiers in it.

St Ewe golden yolk eggs.

All of the frozen veg, particularly frozen chopped onions. No chopping and really easy to add two or three different vegetables to every dinner.

Rocket. To sprinkle on everything and if it needs using up I wilt it in a hot pan like spinach. We had it last night like that as part of a pasta dish.

Walnuts. I really like them for a snack with sliced apple. Or sprinkled into salads.

Fragata olives stuffed with garlic. They come in a tin and are hands down the best olives in my opinion!

Crispy chilli in oil. You can normally find it in the Asian food section and it's great for in stir fries or marinating meat.

Tofoo brand extra firm tofu. Easy to slice into cubes, coat in whatever seasoning you like and put in the air fryer.

Those of you using frozen veg in meals eg in cottage pie. Do you cook the veg separately then add it to the meal, or do you just chuck it in frozen?
I've always disliked the texture of frozen veg, but I might have been doing it wrong since so many of you use it.

frozendaisy · 25/02/2025 07:58

Tempah
Tahini
Mazzo crackers
Breadsticks
4 grain museli base (then add seeds dried fruit recommend cherries and nuts as you feel)
Oatly chocolate milk (it's long life so chill for milkshake or heat up for hot chocolate it's the best chocolate milk off the shelf/fridge as it's not as sweet as the others or as heavy this is mainly for teens)
Cherry juice
Stuffed vine leaves (deli or tins)
Ingredients for home made guacamole

frozendaisy · 25/02/2025 08:00

@Scribl

Gochujang paste makes any stir fry delicious.

Ooooo is this vegetarian?

Pillarsofsalt · 25/02/2025 08:04

Polish shop rolls
Lidl Italiamo green olives. By the truckload.
green bananas

Dymaxion · 25/02/2025 08:04

Kalamata olives, Aldi and Lidl do them in jars, bloody love them !

Downthemarshes · 25/02/2025 08:09

Frozen Sofrito ( Waitrose), Base mix (Sainsburys) - cheaper and bigger bag in the latter but the same. Makes cooking a breeze.
Frozen garlic cubes from the world food freezer.

changedmyname24 · 25/02/2025 08:17

Whatever I find in the yellow sticker reduced section! One of the best was some delicious Manchego 😋 Have also had lots of game. And all sorts of fruit & veg.

insomniaclife · 25/02/2025 08:18

Waitrose celeriac remoulade is too delicious as is the yoghurt coleslaw.

Odysea baked gigante beans. Was obsessed with this for a year.

More thriftily, what about just changing your basics a bit - so eg a different cheese, veggie sausages (richmonds are ace), try kale instead of broccoli, change cheerios for grape nuts ...

SayDoWhatNow · 25/02/2025 08:19

Ramona's jalapeno hummus. In the big pots.

Preciousssssss · 25/02/2025 08:25

@Ilovelowry @LeaveALittleNote if you’re only buying tinned fish from the supermarket you’re missing out. This is what you want:

https://www.thetinnedfishmarket.com

@PrincessHoneysuckle mentioned Burford Browns - I had repeated 🥇🥇🥇from Ocado for being the biggest buyer of Clarence Court Old Cotswold Legbar Blue eggs in my area. Grin

We have our own chickens in the garden. I can bet you any money you like that my eggs beat a Burford Brown any day of the week 😁

But I'll bear your tinned fish tip in mind, thank you.

Preciousssssss · 25/02/2025 08:30

I used to breed quail …

Stupid birds. Their ingratitude totally put me off their ridiculous eggs.

(Actually used to keep hens, but it’s too long ago to remember the quality of the eggs. I’m sure yours are excellent!)

theressomanytinafeysicouldbe · 25/02/2025 08:34

Halo Ice Cream - gooey brownie - 360cal for THE WHOLE TUB!

Aldi Cheesy hash browns (frozen section) - I kid you not, i could eat the whole bag, they are so moreish, so I don't buy very often

Chicken Sausages

Full fat Greek Yogurt (mix with chocolate protein powder - Specifically Protein Works Silk Choc)

Cauliflower Cheese - Always have a bag of this in the freezer

Tuna - I snack on this stuff, with some Hellmans Mayo

Cottage cheese - you can make anything out of this stuff

Brown or Wholemeal sandwich thins - use these for toasties on the foreman, i'll toast anything, or instead of bund with burgers

Chicken steak burgers

Oh, and about 4 bottles of tomato sauce (they leave more on the plate than they eat!) and lots of wine

Princessfluffy · 25/02/2025 08:40

Polish brand sour cream
Truffle Brie
Apple hot cross buns
Cornish butter
Fentimans ginger beer

Nonbio46 · 25/02/2025 08:42

Bonne Maman rhubarb yogurt is delicious.

Moltenpink · 25/02/2025 08:43

Hampshire game wild venison strips are great if you shop at Ocado. They are much cheaper than the equivalent beef product, and they are really versatile. Hopefully a bit better for the environment foo

NewMarmiteJar · 25/02/2025 01:33

This is all terribly middle class!

I was thinking that. I was going to put greggs frozen sausage rolls from Iceland but i wont bother. About 3/4 of the food here I've never heard of and i used to work in waitrose Grin
