Do you listen to someone and can’t understand how they aren’t megastars??

I mean I get why megastars happen, they usually have mass popular appeal.

Give me your great overlooked musicians/ groups/ bands.

I’ll start: My Brightest Diamond. Not cool, not poppy but just so skilled, well-arranged and melodic.

Blossoms and The Red Rum Club. 2 excellent Liverpool bands, think they do a lot of festivals but I rarely hear them on the radio.

I'd like to add ....Kaz Hawkins . Amazing singer and songwriter.

Escaped violent relationship .

Originally from Ireland now lives in France.

Yes yes to the Tragically Hip and Michael Kiwanuka! Want to add Glen Hansard to that too, would love to see him live. Also Stornaway and Johnny Flynn.

Fireworknight · 25/11/2024 21:41

Johnny Flynn is superb.

Almostthattimeoftheyearagain · 25/11/2024 21:42

@ApocalypseNowt Blossoms are Stockport

Almostthattimeoftheyearagain · 25/11/2024 21:43

KALEO. Icelandic rock/blues band. I’ve seen many artists live but I saw them for the first time last week and can say hands down their singer JJ has the best voice I’ve ever heard..deep, heavy, just the right amount of gravel. They’re superb on record but shivers-down-the-spine good live.

Oh yes. I was obsessed when u first heard 'way down below'

Rioghnach Connolly

Just started listening to Rioghnach (which I’m not sure how to pronounce). Really enjoying her. Looking forward to discovering new bands as I work down the list.

Oh yes, you're right! Closeish though....and pretty good for me with my foggy brain.

birchtree23 · 25/11/2024 21:56

Editors. Tom Smiths voice makes me melt.

SensitivePetal · 25/11/2024 21:57

Ahhh some great ideas here: I definitely tend more toward your singer songwriter and folky people. Johnny Flynn is great.

Nina Nesbitt, saw her live 2019 and she was just the support act for Stevie Nicks in UK

Amazing ... just bought tickets to see her/them in Dalston !

CrepuscularCritter · 25/11/2024 22:20

Saw The Shires at a festival last year and they were great.

Also Hollie Rogers (try Criminal Heart) and the wonderfully retro and great live CVC.

For acts no longer in existence, definitely Doll by Doll; the entire Gypsy Blood album is still a regular play here. And probably unlikely to play again (although never say never), the Twilight Singers.

Losingmymind85 · 25/11/2024 22:21

No chance of seeing him live as he died back in the early 2000s but Elliott Smith is criminally underrated
Twilight sad and Admiral Fallow are two great Scottish bands.

Saw them in Dalston earlier this month. Incredible! She's an absolute goddess. She'll make you laugh as much as dance. Have fun!

She is a force of nature. Who knew there were even three The Breath fans on MN…

Kate voegele, absolutely amazing voice. Don’t understand how she’s not got superstardom.
Jack savoretti, again amazing voice. Greatest mistake obviously did week but he has some other great songs.
theres a younger ladie called dylan conrique, she’s an actress also, does more country type stuff but writes her own songs and they are very good, dd12 is obsessed with her.
melissa o Neil who won Canadian idol years ago, she plays Lucy Chen in the rookie, her voice is beautiful. Obviously she’s happy with acting but I’m surprised her singing career didn’t take off.

balloonsintrees · 25/11/2024 22:48

Public Service Broadcasting - absolutely epically good band and excellent stage names.

ExitViaGiftShop · 25/11/2024 22:59

Jill Scott

Rainee123 · 25/11/2024 23:02

JP Cooper
Mallory Knox
Dean Lewis

Maximo Park - love them, have been going to watch them for almost 20 years, but barely anyone has heard of them! Great band live, really talented and great back catalogue of songs!

Jake Bugg. Huge start to his career but then tailed off. New album is absolutely stunning.

Went to see Jake Bugg on Saturday night, was my third time seeing him! He's fab. Show was a sell out and was packed, despite a snowstorm that day!

WinterMorn · 25/11/2024 23:23

Goldfrapp. Out of this world!
