Do you listen to someone and can’t understand how they aren’t megastars??

I mean I get why megastars happen, they usually have mass popular appeal.

Give me your great overlooked musicians/ groups/ bands.

I’ll start: My Brightest Diamond. Not cool, not poppy but just so skilled, well-arranged and melodic.

I’ve seen Jack Savoretti live - he was brilliant!

love Paolo Nutini too.

Eddie Reader. Not necessarily underrated as has created some beautiful music over a career spanning almost four decades, but I'm always surprised if someone doesn't know her. Not sure she has ever aimed for mega-stardom though, or would necessarily welcome it, so perhaps the point is moot.

I met her at Cropredy years ago. She signed a CD case of her album for me.

Lone Justice ( Maria McKee ) circa 1985.

Maria McKee is MASSIVELY underrated. Her album You've Gotta Sin To Get Saved is fabulous, hilarious and poignant.

MUNA - bigger in the US though I think
Jazmine Sullivan - should be a mega star imo

Yes to Jazmine Sullivan. Was giddy to get tickets to see her at Manchester Apollo earlier this year. Craziest gig I've ever been to - 90% of the audience knew every single word to every single song - they drowned her out, totally ruined it for me! She's still a queen though.

A Great Big World. Saw them live at Bush Hall ten years ago... They came out afterwards and signed autographs...

Annie. Norwegian indie electro pop star from mid 2000s. She has a gorgeous delicate voice and very sweet accent. Her song Heartbeat is so evocative and takes me to another place. But love all her stuff.

Have you seen her Tiny Desk concert? It's unreal:

Cardiacs.

Tim Smith now being rightfully acknowledged as a musical genius, but there is a split between people who really really love them and people who really really... don't get them...

Heather Nova

Icehouse

I'm obsessed with his first album Weeks Above The Earth and seem him live twice.

DesireAs · 25/11/2024 17:18

@DaliaDay I discovered it before the gig (love Tiny Desk) & thanks to your link just watched it again!

EarthyMamma · 25/11/2024 18:27

I am obsessed with him and his strength and determination.

I saw Cardiacs many years ago and agree about the genius of Tim Smith. My son is a massive fan and recently went to the Brighton Cardiacs Family event.

Most of the bands and artists I like it seems!
Field Music, Teleman, Dutch Uncles, Richard Dawson, H Hawkline, Warmduscher, Beta Band.

Sorry that's a few more than one but there's so many.
