Is it just me but……Grown men who insist on wearing shorts in winter?

Especially the longer shorts that are below the knee. And backward baseball caps. They look like a bloody “Bash Street Kid”.

Think there’s a competition at the post office. Who can wear them in the cold weather the longest.

There is and it’s been going on about 20 years with no one wanting to crack 🤣

gamerchick · 16/11/2024 10:31

Meh, I'm still in shorts. It has to be freezing or below before I give them up. I don't wear a cap though.

Dh wears shorts when working outside, apparently wet legs dry much quicker than trousered legs, although it's been a relatively dry autumn so far, when it's raining it's shorts all the way (apparently waterproof trousers just don't cut it!)

Yes dh, is the same. He says there is nothing worse than wet heavy jeans. I don't think the huge long duvet wrapped around puffer coat alot of women wear would suit him 🤣

Xtraincome · 16/11/2024 10:33

Married the postman so love a bit of shorts in winter, me 😋. DH is no longer on the delivery side so has to wear trousers to work - booooo!! Any time he does where shorts I get the feels, in more ways than one. But a backwards baseball cap is new to me 😆

ClairDeLaLune · 16/11/2024 10:34

My DH does this and it’s sooooooooooooooo embarrassing! I’m with you OP. He doesn’t wear a baseball cap though thank God!

Purple200 · 16/11/2024 10:34

DH wears shorts all year round, as a rugby player he’s used to the cold. Plus his calves and thighs are way too big to fit comfortably into trousers, due to most of them being tailored more to the skinny side! They are always above the knee though.
Do you get the ‘ick’ when grown men wear shorts in the summer or is it just the winter?

SnoopysHoose · 16/11/2024 10:34

If you mean the wannabe rapper look then yes it's not attractive.
My DS25 wears to the knee shorts most of time but he's a sporty/outdoorsy look; long distance runner/hiker: works with dogs.

CinnamonJellyBeans · 16/11/2024 10:39

I can't believe some people want to complain about shorts in winter. It's nice to feel the elements on your skin, so if you don't feel the cold on your legs, why not?

WaitingForMojo · 16/11/2024 10:41

Conniebygaslight · 16/11/2024 09:06

Ha ha, no it doesn’t, most people have opinions on things that don’t matter to them though. Thats why forums like this exist is it not?

To sneer at others’ clothing choices? I hope not!

We were in fits of giggles when dh tried to get skinny jeans on for a laugh, and couldn't get them above his knees, then got stuck!

Nannyfannybanny · 16/11/2024 10:41

Coffeesaveslives, I agree, I often post that it's a childish word,it's annoying American slang for vomiting, but I don't suppose anyone has bothered to look up the meaning. DH is a crossword fanatic and there's always a dictionary close at hand to check spelling.

Cornwalltappytap · 16/11/2024 10:42

Well in Cornwall shorts are a year round thing for men. It’s a bit warmer here. And a lot of men have physical jobs and shorts allow them to move easier.

I cannot stand seeing men sliding around in flip flops in the rain though 😂

I have seen too many men (and very few women!) walking down steep hills in Cornish towns sliding around, wobbling, limping because they’re wearing flip flops in the rain (and cold)

and that’s my rant done for the day. Thanks for reading ✌️🤣

daisychain01 · 16/11/2024 10:43

The best look is the local postie out there trudging through the ice and snow in their shorts 👍

Sadasad · 16/11/2024 09:08

I wear shorts with tights and boots in winter, is that a problem?

Ooh that sounds lovely. I'm running hot these days thanks to menopause, I might give that a try. short boots or tall boots?

Nannyfannybanny · 16/11/2024 10:46

Oh yes, the builders and gardeners round our way also wear shorts all year.

Totally agree with you. I always think he is just getting on with it, no complaints! Hate to see a man in a fur lined hooded feminine looking hooded coat complaining about the cold; it is just not attractive to me. Each to their own.

KimberleyClark · 16/11/2024 10:46

The only men in shorts I want to see at this time of year are those to be seen on the pitch at the Principality Stadium or Old Trafford.

Amazingday · 16/11/2024 10:48

My DP wears shorts and t shirt in the house to relax all year long. Dressed for the weather going out the house. He has his house shorts and outside shorts

i can be freezing and wrapped up in the house and he is still in shorts. If his old joggers come out I know it’s really cold

PrincessSakura · 16/11/2024 10:50

Are you in the south west OP? Seems to be in people’s blood down here 😂 I think they are all mad but I feel the cold and it’s already freezing to me!

Yes! When it is raining, I love to step outside into the garden and feel it on my face and skin. It is such a good feeling, I don't care if I'm weird! I'd rather be like this, than overly worrying about a hair out or place. Just live, wear what you want, and be happy! Couldn't give a ff what others think, and would like to see what they're wearing. 🤔

niadainud · 16/11/2024 10:51

See also people who dress for a funeral as if they're going on a hike, or for a wedding as if they're going to the beach. None of my business, but it just looks (to me) as if they haven't learnt to adult properly. We all make assumptions and assessments about people based on what they wear, and I think it's disingenuous to claim we don't.

Well people like op will judge him.

midgetastic · 16/11/2024 10:59

Yes people make judgements but we should also examine those judgements- are they fair and right or - as in this case I think - artificially created and driving out rather than accepting and acknowledging diversity.

AlbertAvocado · 16/11/2024 11:00

I love my husband in his work shorts! The only thing I hate on men is wearing their jeans so low their pants show.

Fonzies · 16/11/2024 11:00

lol at people being so offended op. I don’t get it either. No one can be that hot. I wondered if some are trying to prove they’re tough? I’ve seen men wearing shorts in the snow around here.
