Is it just me but……Grown men who insist on wearing shorts in winter?

Especially the longer shorts that are below the knee. And backward baseball caps. They look like a bloody “Bash Street Kid”.

OP posts:

I’m a woman and I’ve been out in public in shorts every day this week Shock.

Conniebygaslight · 16/11/2024 09:12

That’s ok too

I don't really understand the point of this thread

Mlanket · 16/11/2024 09:14

theres a lady at my work who always wears short skirts or shorts without tights regardless of weather, I don’t get how she doesn’t get cold but she always has a tan!

SilentSnow · 16/11/2024 09:14

What's actually wrong with wearing shorts OP? You haven't said.

Weali · 16/11/2024 09:15

Im a woman and pretty much live in the below the shorts knees unless it’s snowing, far more comfortable than trousers.

Conniebygaslight · 16/11/2024 09:09

Not for me…

I mean, I'm sure they don't really care what you think 🤷‍♀️

Nannyfannybanny · 16/11/2024 09:12

Seriously,"the total ick", grown women feel nauseous at the sight of a man in shorts, are you allowed to wear pearls to the office!

The word "ick" gives me the ick, lol. Reminds me of what a 6yo would say.

LlynTegid · 16/11/2024 09:19

It bothers me that many are overweight and it helps them be on denial about it or do nothing to manage their health.

If they have health issues later in life it will probably be women who have the indirect consequences of this Ill health.

ViciousCurrentBun · 16/11/2024 09:20

I remember turning up in long shorts to do the Christmas flowers at church so it was December. That caused a flurry amongst the flower team. DS wears shorts all year, DH only does in very high summer. Both DS and I have very hot internal thermostats.

HellonHeels · 16/11/2024 09:21

I like the men's cold weather sports outfit of shorts with leggings. Looks great IMO

You think people who wear shorts are more likely to be overweight?! That’s an interesting correlation and not true in my experience. In my life, most of us who are wearing shorts at this time of year in the supermarket are dressed like that as we are on our way to/ from the gym.

CaptainRedbeardandbigbadbarry · 16/11/2024 09:25

Yet another shallow minded post. Who actually cares whether men where boiler suits, shorts, suits or speedos on a daily basis.

It is irrelevant. And so dull.

You do you op.

Fucking hell.

LlynTegid · 16/11/2024 09:27

The kind of shorts the OP refers to are not those worn by people travelling to or from a gym.

Do you feel the same about overweight women?

midgetastic · 16/11/2024 09:32

Actually speedos would bother me - just don't want to see so much detail of someone's body

Shorts however - why is that any different to a woman wearing a skirt ? Well it's slightly more sensible as you don't have wafting fabric or the alternative of leg movement restrictions both of which make my skin crawl but I wouldn't bother starting a thread on it because other peoples clothes isn't really my choice

Yeah - they would bother me as well. I wrote that hastily. Yeah- they actually really would bother me but that is because I don’t want to see that amount of flesh exposed.
Shorts though ? I don’t really care.
It is no one else’s business to be honest.

Ginmonkeyagain · 16/11/2024 09:38

Mr Monkey is a grown man who wears shorts a lot regardless of the weather. In fact he has just headed off in shorts now with a spare pair of shorts for work.

He mainly wears shorts as he runs, a lot. He is running to parkrun, doing parkrun and then running to work. He works in a running store so has to wear the clothes they sell as work uniform. He is not a fan of track suit bottoms so mainly wears the shorts.

When it is very cold he will wear running leggings with shorts over the top.

It makes no difference to your life.
It's none of your business.

She might be have been frightened by a herd of cows as a child and now the sight of calves traumatises her?

ByMerryKoala · 16/11/2024 09:44

I just can't imagine how this even hits the radar of being unacceptable or ick. It's clearly not your personal preference but it's just legs, it's not indecent, intimidating or offensive. It just seems like a practical outfit. It's not my cup of tea but it feels like totally contrived bellyaching to throw it up as an example of a social failing or incompetence.

There are two at my work that wear to the office. It gives everyone the total ick. Do you aren't alone op

Gives everyone the total ick? How childish. If it doesn't breach any dress codes and managers don't see it as a problem perhaps "everyone" should grow up and mind their own business.

A bit off topic, but I’m nosey interested @Weali What is it about your shorts that makes them more comfortable than trousers? And do you wear them with bare legs or do you wear tights?

Weali · 16/11/2024 09:52

@BreatheAndFocus bare legs I hate tights. Think it’s a sensory thing I just can’t stand trousers and they feel so enclosing, on the rare occasion I wear trousers I tend to wear shorts in the car and change just before going in and change on the way back out.

Sonolanona · 16/11/2024 09:58

You've described my husband OP Grin
(Not below knee shorts though... regular above knee kind) He wears shorts all year round , and the only time I see him in trousers are weddings and funerals and he looks a bit odd to me then!

He runs hot, he has a physical job and kayaks all weekend.. he doesn't need or want long trousers and hates jeans.
He also wears a cap as he is bald and doesn't want skin cancer on his head!

SpiggingBelgium · 16/11/2024 09:59

I could only see part of the title in the Trending section, but I correctly guessed the topic 😁

I'm with you, OP. I know on a practical level that it’s absolutely nothing to do with me, and I know Mr Shorts doesn’t (and indeed shouldn’t) give a toss what I think, but my overriding sense of “But it just looks so STUPID!” gets in the way. Although it does give me the enjoyment of trying to spot one at the shops on Christmas Eve. I always do!
