Is it just me but……Grown men who insist on wearing shorts in winter?

Especially the longer shorts that are below the knee. And backward baseball caps. They look like a bloody “Bash Street Kid”.

Men just seem to run hotter then women I don't know if it's a medical thing or what but all men I know are always in t.shirt's and shorts and all women I know are walking round in dressing gowns putting the thermostat up

It makes no difference to your life.
It's none of your business.

This! Don't understand why a strangers appearance would bother you.

Ps you'd hate me I wear flip flops lol year round

Its just you. Next question

Alot say threads like this are fine, because you're allowed to have a supposedly 'subjective' opinion, without sweeping generalisations, and character slights. Apparently the op has such a huge dislike of this look, she/he have felt the need to create an entire thread on the topic. That is your perogative op. I however like an even playing field. Where's your picture of what you wear (face blurred out), or description of what you wear? I'm sure a few posters would be curious to know.
It was imo greatly benefit your statements to know what you think is specifically appropriate for a man to wear in winter? Then, everybody can have an opinion on this, and a fair debate.

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 16/11/2024 11:38

I’m definitely ‘a thing’ but no it doesn’t annoy me.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 16/11/2024 11:40

It's always women though, isn't it? Sharing their vacuous 'thoughts' over what other people are wearing.

Yes, you can think it if you want, OP, but the fact that you need to be validated for your pointless judgement is a bit pathetic.

It's well known and why it's so difficult to get a suitable office temperature

Nannyfannybanny · 16/11/2024 11:44

All the women I know run hotter than men. I'm a staggering 40 plus years post menopausal,we have a 4.5 together duvet on all year,I used to have the bedroom window open all year before I married DH. My youngest DD gets very hot during a period as does my 14 year old dgd

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 16/11/2024 11:44

I’ve seen a few lately, but if they’re comfortable like that, good luck to them.

What does often bemuse me is how dh will hardly ever wear a coat or jacket even when it’s very cold. I don’t think he has nearly the same level of inner central heating that he used to (he’s quite an old bugger now) but it’s a stubbornness thing - he thinks it’s a bit sissy to admit that you feel the cold.

The other day we went into central London for an exhibition - it was a really cold day, and I swear, every single other bloke we saw had some sort of coat or jacket on!

Is he visibly shivering? If he is, i agree he needs a coat for his health. That's not good.

Timble · 16/11/2024 11:50

My DH used to do this. He would just get so unbelievably hot all the time. He can hoover our living room and he’s dripping in sweat (not overweight or unfit). He has a fan on his bedside table that runs at night all year long. He’s just a naturally hot person!

CoastalCalm · 16/11/2024 11:51

My husband has just put his away for the winter and switched to jeans but it doesn’t give me the ick at all I like seeing his legs

I wonder if this is part of the issue with some. Maybe it depends on the legs in question. I love dh's legs, shorts all of the way!

No, but I know he’d be more comfortable with another layer on top of the usual cotton shirt (nothing ever underneath it) and thin lambswool jumper when it’s 10 deg or less, with a wind straight from Siberia!

Why do you know better than him what he'd be comfortable in?

RedToothBrush · 16/11/2024 12:12

I know three men who do this.

There is an element of competitive and stubborness to it. When someone comments it makes them more determined to wear them all winter for the sheer hell of it to prove a point and wind up others.

BUT they all also have said that they struggle with the level of heating in the winter / all do certain sport/activities where on a practical level shorts work better than trousers than get wet and soggy (and often ultimately led them to getting colder).

Nothing on here is anyone’s business😐

Octomingo · 16/11/2024 12:25

A man in the supermarket just asked me if I was trying to cling on to summer for a bit longer, as I was in shorts.

I'd come straight from the gym! Certainly no shorts for me at home. Although if anyone's in shorts here, it'll be teen dd.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 16/11/2024 12:55

SoupDragon · 16/11/2024 12:05

Why do you know better than him what he'd be comfortable in?

Because I can see how he walks and holds himself when he’s cold, OK? And it’s not the same as when he’s not. We’ve been married for an awful long time and funnily enough, you do become aware of such things. I’ve long given up ever saying anything though - it’s just a case of stubbornness. His DF was even worse.

AnImaginaryCat · 16/11/2024 12:58

Does seem to be an emerging phenomenon in the last decade, which has taken off as a trend the the last few years. Especially paired with hoodie, padded gilet or jacket and wolly hat.

Dressed for the arctic on top, Bahamas on the bottom. 🤣

TwistedWonder · 16/11/2024 12:59

It’s not a look I like but I don’t judge anyone else for what they like wearing enough to be bothered by strangers.

I have been on a couple of dates where the guy turned up in shorts (and one was wearing flip flops) and it was an instant turn off for me but that’s just a personal choice. I don’t wear shorts myself but I have friends who do and look great

henlake7 · 16/11/2024 12:59

I hate seeing anybody in t shirts, shorts, bare legs, etc in winter....I just feel cold on their behalf I think!
I do fully appreciate its a me thing though and they are free to wear what they like.

SunshineAfterTheRainR · 16/11/2024 13:04

DH wears shorts all year round, but I wear skirts (without tights) all year round too. Not a lot of trousers in our house! We are both happy and comfortable, who cares? Plenty of terribly dressed people in trousers.

showersandflowers · 16/11/2024 13:05

DH wears shorts all year, he's always boiling. He will only wear a coat in serious negative degrees, otherwise he overheats!

Plump82 · 16/11/2024 13:07

My BIL wears them a lot but usually definitely not below the knee or with a cap! I also see a lot of guys wearing football shorts. Each to their own, makes no difference to me!
