Overrated imo:
salted caramel,
ruby chocolate,
.....apple crumble.

No, I wish it were! We took DS to a Chinese for dim sum (brunch). We ordered Thai baby octopus and let DS choose the rest. A plate of what we thought was squid in a chilli type sauce arrived. We realised on eating a piece, the texture was wrong for squid. Looking at it again, we saw it was chicken’s feet. (Several dishes at dim sum are made of chicken’s feet; but we never order them or the offal)

Checking the menu, we saw they had given us the dish above the Thai baby octopus on the menu, by mistake. I felt disgusted throughout the rest of the meal! 🤢

Muller yoghurts and anything strawberry flavoured

@WeWillGetThereInTheEnd I had jellyfish in a restaurant in Chinatown. That was definitely overrated. It had the texture of hardened Haribo sweets and tasted only of seseme oil. However much you chewed it, it wouldn't go away.. 😝

Old fashioned 'treats' I hate: white chocolate, kit-kats, coca cola, lucozade. Also coffee, even the smell makes my stomach lurch.

Meringues taste of dead egg white.

American in origin fast food. All of it without exception.

That's interesting, my ds2 insists meringues taste of egg. I am usually a supertaster (it's a nuisance) but I can only taste sugar in meringues. I wonder why?

Ohh and chicken wings! When I cook a chicken the wings get hoyed in the bin (food waste 😜) or in the pan to make stock for gravy as theres nothing to them. Chicken breast perfect, drumsticks and thighs or as a whole, fine as they have meat, but the wings are just bones and skin with about 10% meat.

It’s an amazing marketing ploy though “6 chicken wings for £5” WHAT? You could buy a full bird for that!

Does it taste nice with Tuna? Yes, but on its own it smells and tastes vile. Who would come up with the concept of oils and eggs mixed together to make a nice accompaniment 🤢 I just can’t understand where it came from…

Nandos - i went there once on a visit to the UK and did not understand why everyone goes onto about a so much!

Bubble tea - tried it in Taiwan, was not impressed.

Pumpkin spice anything.

Cauliflower cheese - no amount of cheese sauce can disguise the fact that cauliflower is disgusting. Ditto cauliflower rice. You're not fooling anyone!

Red velvet cake. Looks pretty, tastes disappointing.

Oreos - there are so many nicer biscuits out there.

Did he also only eat egg yolks when you made him a dippy egg, had to have his scrambled egg with no trace of egg white in it and so on?

I was like that as a child and my DS was the same. It's an intergenerational curse. You can't buck genetics. I remember it well. Aged three he would shout: "I'M ONLY TAKING THE YELLOYKS!"

I also went into a slight panic when I was working as a kind of au pair/nanny/baby-sitter for the dentist's daughter here in France and the parents asked me to stay for dinner. It was instant mashed potato poked around a bit on the plate with an egg broken in the middle, barely cooked. It took me back to my mum saying, "The only thing I couldn't eat as a child was when Nanny Iris made egg in a nest"

As I said. It's at least a three generational curse. The curse of the egg white.

I was just going to say jellyfish. It was interesting to try the first time but now I know what it tastes like I won't order again. @LadyGabriella I quite liked the chicken feet but they were a bit hot for me! I love spice but not blazing hot!

I agree that strawberries and blueberries are overrated. Taste OK, but there are much nicer berries like raspberries or blackcurrants.
Icing, especially buttercream 🤮.

@CheerfulBunny I had a similar experience with jellyfish in Chinatown, it was a choose your dimsum from the trolley set up. We accidentally chose cold jellyfish in a peanut sauce. It wasn't awful, but wasn't nice either!

@YaB I believe the story about mayonnaise is that there was no milk/cream to make a sauce so the chef improvised with olive oil and eggs. It's named after Mahon in Menorca.
