Share foods you think are overrated or just don't like (or defend your favourites!).

Overrated imo:
salted caramel,
ruby chocolate,
.....apple crumble.

@WeWillGetThereInTheEnd I'm with you on the raw onions - taint everything they touch and you taste them for hours afterwards. Love pickled onions, though.
Pork belly, just really fatty
Cherry tomatoes, all skin and seeds
Blue cheese, love other strong cheese, but not blue cheese

Avocado. Delicious for the ten minutes on any random day that it’s perfectly ripe for. But for the other 99.9% of its unripe or overripe life it’s a waste of time, effort and money.

Mine was going to be ‘Yorkshire puddings on Christmas dinner or indeed any roast except beef’ but I fear I might push you over the edge…

Oh I dislike Christmas dinner immensely and can't stand roasts so I would have been okay 😂Yorkshire puds, bread sauce and gravy are the only parts of roasts that I like. I really should turn in my British passport.

Smoked salmon - horrible texture.
Truffle flavoured stuff.

quirkychick · 09/11/2024 18:20

I agree with red velvet cake, pretty tasteless.
I actually really like salted caramel and dark, salted chocolate but get others don't - I much prefer salty foods to sweet, I think.
Drink rather than food, but all the pumpkin lattes etc that are just huge, v syrupy, coffee with synthetic flavours and squirty cream. I prefer a proper coffee.

MotherWol · 09/11/2024 18:20

Matcha. I’m not convinced anyone actually likes it, it tastes like pond algae. You’re all just faking for Instagram.

Biffsboys · 09/11/2024 18:21

Olives .

MamaBobo · 09/11/2024 18:22

Chocolate Oranges (all Chocolate with Orange really)
Kit Kats
Cadburys Chocolate

Truffles…actual funghi…not chocolate!

Yorkshire puddings. Waste of plate real estate.

😀😀

Haitchoraitchnobodygivesafuck · 09/11/2024 18:23

Chilli - fucking handfulsof chilli. It seems to be in everything these days.

Just a tiny hint then fine, but I want to taste my food properly without my mouth and face going numb. 😡

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 09/11/2024 18:25

ABSOLUTELY salted caramel 🤬

Nothing is just 'caramel' anymore, not that you'd know from the generally lack of salty taste present. A genuinely good salted caramel is be a wonderful thing, but I've tasted very few - and none that came with an outer wrapping of plastic..!

KnopkaPixie · 09/11/2024 18:27

Now I will defend my favourites:

Roast parsnips. I like the caramalised rooty goodness. Halfway between a potato and a carrot. Just take the funny woody bit out of the middle. Much nicer than sweet potato.

Fresh sardines. 'Oh, the bones! Oh the skin!' Just go with it. More olive oil, grilly a bit more crispy, squeezy more lemon. Feel the fishy goodness and the natural collagen plumping the wrinkles, loosening the knees.

Turkish Delight, rosewater or orange water flavoured arabic or indian sweets. Ground almond, marzipan things. No. It is not too sweet for you. Just surrender.

Cocothecoconut · 09/11/2024 18:27

Prawns 🤮

Spidey66 · 09/11/2024 18:27

bramleyapples418 · 09/11/2024 18:30

dominoes pizza
anything that's marketed as a new exciting product
cappucinos

LadyGabriella · 09/11/2024 18:30

Agree with salted caramel. Always overrated.

Bourbon biscuits
Pate
Tarts for dessert
Pannettone

SeaDragon17 · 09/11/2024 18:32

Cruffin, cronut, croffle or any other hybrid nonsense

Brownies - dense and sickly and generally not very good

Smash burgers. Dry a burger out, make it a mess and pretend it’s a culinary marvel.

Stuffing. Waste of stomach space on a roast. If I want to eat herby sawdust I’ll raid a rabbit hutch

PrincessHoneysuckle · 09/11/2024 18:34

Guacamole 🤢

TotteringonGently · 09/11/2024 18:34

Caviar. BLEEAURGH

Samphire44 · 09/11/2024 18:35

Shop bought cake and biscuits - tastes far to sweet and artificial
Eggs - can't stand the smell
Mcdonalds
Brioche buns

GreenSmithing · 09/11/2024 18:36

Lobster. I've tried it a couple of times, but it's a lot of work for what is essentially a very large prawn, and there's a high risk of showering your fellow diners with bits of carapace

evtheria · 09/11/2024 18:36

Not flat-out dislikes (eg mushrooms are gross) but 'ate them & they're disappointing':

Nandos chicken
Prosecco
Brownies, all of them
