Share foods you think are overrated or just don't like (or defend your favourites!).

Overrated imo:
salted caramel,
ruby chocolate,
.....apple crumble.

OP posts:
ZZGirl · 09/11/2024 20:43

Salted caramel
Avocado. I'm vegan and it bugs me that everywhere thinks we all eat avocado

Goodbyemrfrenchfry · 09/11/2024 20:44

Oysters . Yuck.
Tripe. Ditto.
Brains. Can’t bring myself to try, but can’t imagine liking them…

Cake is not a texture I enjoy

Sandwiches are underwhelming

All alcohol tastes horrible

Roast potatoes

Ice cream

I’m sorry but I love all those things

GettingStuffed · 09/11/2024 20:45

Pringles
Anything made from batter.
Chips

the80sweregreat · 09/11/2024 20:45

Dh likes black pudding
I can't bear him eating it as it looks wrong on so many levels !

Pisssflapps · 09/11/2024 20:46

Pink slime chinese sauce

Mine was going to be ‘Yorkshire puddings on Christmas dinner or indeed any roast except beef’ but I fear I might push you over the edge…

No, don't! Stop! Please! I can't bear it !! 😮

PieEllaBakewell · 09/11/2024 20:48

Chicken feet? Is that a typo?

Icepinkeskimo · 09/11/2024 20:49

Smash Burgers only fit for Instagram morons who rave about half a pound of mince splattered on a bread bun.
Loaded Fries - filthy greasy cheap chips with oily everything flung on top.
Freak Shakes- gluttony and diabetes in one single messy glass.
Badly made Birthday cakes - you know the kind with 3 inch thick packaged fondant holding the cake prisioner, hard enough and dangerous enough to strip your enamel of your teeth, or worse rip your teeth out by its roots.

bao buns 😞

I also hate the most over used word umami, which seems to used for everything from a cheese sandwich to a spud.

BCBird · 09/11/2024 20:49

Scallops, strawberries, crab, salted caramel i agree with u OP. Am.cursing the apple crumble entry though. Milkshakes, burgers, chips and nachos

ACapybaraNamedFred · 09/11/2024 20:50

Flavoured gin
Mussels
Parmesan (except when in Pesto)
Pumpkin spice anything

ACapybaraNamedFred · 09/11/2024 20:52

Couldn't agree more. It looks so exotic and fun at first but it just tastes a bit meh.

Davros · 09/11/2024 20:59

There's a difference between "food I don't like" and "food that's overrated".
I don't like Sourdough, coffee or most fruit but I wouldn't say they're overrated. Well, maybe coffee and sourdough 😹

EveryDayisFriday · 09/11/2024 21:01

Red velvet cake, i was expecting something delicious. It was a rubbish chocolate cake.

the80sweregreat · 09/11/2024 21:02

I know people love burgers and all things beefy burger , but they are always disappointing even the really expensive ' shake shack ' ' five guys' ones. I kind of felt full and so unhealthy and much lighter in the wallet too after trying one.
I think my taste buds have changed so much over the years, convinced of it.

LadyGabriella · 09/11/2024 21:02

Percy pigs (the plain ones) (love the fizzy tails)

SayDoWhatNow · 09/11/2024 21:04

Zoodles.

High protein "pasta" made from peas.

Protein shakes. See also protein cookies cookies and protein pancakes.

Any cake where the ingredients that make it taste good have been replaced by avocado. Or beans. Or courgette.

Flavoured gins are already on the thread, but the abomination that is parma violet flavoured gin (looks like meths, tastes like migraine) needs a special mention.

the80sweregreat · 09/11/2024 21:06

I bought a salad bag once and it had pea shoots in it. They were really horrible
I have to make sure that never happens again lol

Pisssflapps · 09/11/2024 21:07

Have we had jacket spuds and smash burgers. Food sold by fucktards on Social Media and queued up for by idiots.

LadyGabriella · 09/11/2024 21:07

Champagne.

Sliced tomatoes. Will accept whole cherry tomatoes in salads etc, especially if they are very crisp. But sliced buffalo tomatoes make me heave. They destroy entire sandwiches with their taint.

Yes! I like cherry tomatoes with some salt on, tomato soup, sun dried ones etc
But big sliced tomatoes? Nope. Why put them in a sandwich!?

Five guys are a bit greasy. I love their shakes though!

KohlaParasaurus · 09/11/2024 21:08

Caviar. I quite like it, but it doesn't deserve its reputation.
Saffron. Nothing wrong with it, but HOW much money for something whose only merit is extreme yellowness?
Pumpkin spice anything.
Overnight oats. Though I have absolutely no problem with Birchermuesli, which is essentially the same thing.
Protein shakes. Extra calories that you probably don't need, down your gullet in a couple of gulps.

KnopkaPixie · 09/11/2024 21:13

Bouillabaisse. Classic, "Look at the mark up on that!" tourist trap.

CheerfulBunny · 09/11/2024 21:21

American style cupcakes, like Lola's, look unbelievably gorgeous but there's so much buttercream on top I start to feel sick halfway in.
Sourdough bread tastes quite nice but once toasted becomes like concrete to the extent I fear for my choppers. See also pork cracking - but I think I might BU with that one.😄
