Crying my way through Don McLean's The Grave and wondered what songs make you absolutely sob?
No particular emotional connection to the song either other than it was on a CD when I was younger, but the other songs on the album don't make me cry - it's just a genuinely heartbreaking song

There is a poppy one where she is a prostitute and she is singing to her little boy about how she is going to make sure his life is better than hers.
I have been trying to find it.
Theres a line - she lives a life by the water (something) so far away from her Daddys daughter

Is that Rockabye?

YES!!!!!
Thank you
No idea why it makes me cry as it doesn't relate to me at all but I just find it so sad.
I think its beacuse this woman is obviously damaged but is really determined to do anything for her son

CherryBlo · 17/09/2024 14:13

I've heard Rockabye before but never listened to the lyrics, it is really quite sad and Clean Bandit isn't even something I'd usually choose to listen to!

Caroline, No - The Beach Boys.

It makes me cry every single time I play it!

MissAshworth · 17/09/2024 14:17

More Than Words - Extreme

Linger - The Cranberries

Marylou62 · 17/09/2024 14:17

Fast Car by Tracey Chapman is a very sad song.
She tried so hard to make a better life for herself and her kids.

But the saddest one for me is Dance with Your Father by Luther Vandross..

I'm crying now knowing my Mum wants God to send the only man she ever loved for a final dance. She has Alzheimer's and grieves every day...

Who wants to live forever - Queen

BlackCatsAreBrilliant · 17/09/2024 14:25

Seasons in the Sun

Bright Eyes

Both of them break me.

adviceatthislatestage · 17/09/2024 14:55

Still - Lionel Richie.
Dance with my father -Luther Vandross

bubbleduck84 · 17/09/2024 14:56

Visiting Hours (Ed Sheeran)
In the Living Years (Mike and the Mechanics)

Yes to Bright Eyes as well! Watership Down was one of my favourite books as a child and still makes me cry.

MouseofCommons · 17/09/2024 14:57

Bigger than the whole sky - Taylor Swift.

Slipping Through My Fingers

Down from Dover Dolly Parton

For a Friend by The Communards. It's beautiful and makes me cry. It's dedicated to the chap in Pride. He was called Mark something, and he died of AIDS. When I listen to it, I think of all the men who died a shitty death with awful stigma and can't believe it.

ZiggyZowie · 17/09/2024 15:08

Hallelujah

FadedRed · 17/09/2024 15:08

The Unknown Soldier by Ralph McTell. It’s on YouTube but I can’t seem to make a link. The story behind the song, and the videos and photo’s are worth watching, as is the song itself.

YourWinter · 17/09/2024 15:09

Shannon, by Henry Gross

poppyzbrite4 · 17/09/2024 15:09

Un bel dì vedremo from Madama Butterfly

muddlingthrou · 17/09/2024 15:10

Dear Theodosia from the Hamilton soundtrack gets me every time. There's a line about his father not being around so he will make sure he is for his daughter that makes me think of my DH and the tears start flowing!

AutumnCrow · 17/09/2024 15:11

Fire and Rain by James Taylor. I want it at my funeral.

'My body's aching and my time is at hand ...'

GoodnightJude1 · 17/09/2024 15:13

This woman’s work - Kate Bush

it makes me ugly cry.

CherryBlo · 17/09/2024 15:17

Wow I'm going have to make a sad playlist.
Agree with Slipping Through My Fingers, not listened to all the others
