Crying my way through Don McLean's The Grave and wondered what songs make you absolutely sob?
No particular emotional connection to the song either other than it was on a CD when I was younger, but the other songs on the album don't make me cry - it's just a genuinely heartbreaking song

@Runningupthecurtains same here. I’ve never experienced pregnancy loss and this song makes me cry every time. Always makes me think of friends who I know have had losses and just wonder how they’d feel

How Do I Say Goodbye - Dean Lewis

Every word of the lyrics resonates with me so much about the death of my Dad.
Almost 8 years without him and I feel like I can see him looking back at me in the mirror more with each passing year.

Sadly I have had losses. The first time I heard it I was driving and had to pull to weep uncontrollably for a few minutes. I gave the one that stuck a huge hug when I got home, much to his bemusement.

Fly by Celine Dion. It's about the death of her neice. It's beautiful but makes me sad every time.

I was going to say Fly too.

It's so sad but so beautiful at the same time.

First heard it at a young children's funeral. It's a heartbreaking one.

Oh another

Suzanne Vega's Luca is heartbreaking

They only hit until you cry
And after that you don't ask why
You just don't argue anymore

Dance with my father I think by Luther van dross . When I first heard it I stopped the car to listen . It was so beautiful but so poignant and sad and I thought to myself that I’d never be able to
listen to it once my father had passed away and sure enough I couldn’t listen to it for years . Only recently heard it again and boy did it strike a chord with me

Letters to Heaven by Dolly Parton. When we were kids - maybe early/mid teens, we used to sneak out my Dad's country albums and listen to songs like Letters To Heaven and there was one about a truck driver and a few others which used to make us sad but in a maudlin teenage way that was something we really enjoyed.

Wires by Athlete. First born was a poorly, poorly prem baby who was very nearly not coming home with us. First time I listened to the song properly, it made me sad cry even through it's technically a song of hope

SunshinePlease24 · 18/09/2024 00:27

Wires by Athlete. It does have a happy ending though.

I grieve by Peter Gabriel has me in absolute floods every single time and so does when the tigers broke free.

Both about the death of their fathers. I'm almost certainly projecting because I can't bear the thought of loosing mine though I know he is neither a young nor a well man
