Saddest songs?

Crying my way through Don McLean's The Grave and wondered what songs make you absolutely sob?
No particular emotional connection to the song either other than it was on a CD when I was younger, but the other songs on the album don't make me cry - it's just a genuinely heartbreaking song

Johnny Cash's version of Hurt. Wells me up every time. Also Richard Marx Hazard. When you know the story it's based on and really listen to the lyrics you'd have to have a heart of stone to not cry😅

@Devilsmommy agree with Hurt, you can hear the pain in his voice

Run by Snow Patrol. Heard it a couple of days after DH died and really sobbed.

Londondreamer · 17/09/2024 16:44

Gilbert O'Sullivan - Alone again.

I always thought it was quite a fun little song, until I was sitting in my car and it came on and I listened to the lyrics.

The last verse makes me think of my Mom when my Dad died.

I can't listen to it at all now 😓

worrisomeasset · 17/09/2024 16:45

Hot Chocolate’s “Emma”. It has the bleakest of lyrics and Peter Hook has been open about how he pinched its riff for New Order’s “Thieves Like Us”.

Fix you - Coldplay
Sometimes you can’t make it on your own - U2

HÆLTHEPAIN · 17/09/2024 17:31

Bright Eyes is sad for me too - when I was little I was convinced it was my dad who sang it (he can’t even sing)😂!

And not so much now but “This Used To Be My Playground” by Madonna used to give me a lump in my throat.

Philadelphia by Bruce Springsteen always sets me off too.

And then I Can’t Make You Love Me by George Michael pulls at my heart strings. ❤️
