Women are banned from talking in public

Washingupdone · 26/08/2024 13:13

Women through new laws issued by Afghanistan’s Taliban rulers, are now banned on speaking in public as a woman's voice is considered "intimate" and should not be heard. I feel so sad and helpless for their situation. At least I am educated and in this situation would try to limit birth control without my husband being aware of my actions, if I could.
Does anyone know how they can be helped?

I've given money to Women For Afghan Women. But I don't know how good they are and it feels like throwing a stone into a chasm. It's so dreadful. Silent, controlled women who can't talk to each other must feel so alone.

LiterallyOnFire · 26/08/2024 13:17

It's unspeakably cruel that they had a few years of comparative liberty only to be thrown back under the veil and into the home.

BobbyBiscuits · 26/08/2024 13:19

This is really disturbing. I honestly don't know what can be done. How can such horrific misogyny be allowed to be entrenched in law! Surely if someone isn't allowed to speak they should be able to leave and be granted asylum in a safer country? I really wish I could help them.

Bettyboughtabitofbitterbutter · 26/08/2024 13:20

It's horrible and I wish something could be done. Everyone knew as soon as the Taliban resumed control this would be the end result.

Why are these perverts so incompetent in managing their bodily functions and sexual urges they need to hide women?

CitizenZ · 26/08/2024 13:21

I was thinking about this yesterday, with an urge to 'do something'. But I genuinely can't think of any way I could do something that could make a difference. The world doesn't seem to care.

They're not. It's an excuse to control women.

I know. It's just an alternative response to their arguments for full body covering.

Well, in Australia women can't meet or have women only things by law now.

Expect this across the globe as men work out how changing 'sex' into 'gender'can be used to restrict women across all nations.

A more realistic solution may be to cease any and all trade with China, UAE, Saudi & Pakistan as all negotiate and have dealings with the Taliban.

The shein and temu addicts won't like that...

Tickle v Giggle? Aus is on the fast track to bonkersville.

The US is seeing a roll back of abortion rights.

I know those examples are nowhere near as severe as the Afghan situation, but it does feel like global womankind is losing ground.

OnBoardTheHeartOfGold · 26/08/2024 13:43

I just don't understand this. There is nothing Islamic about it.
Islamically, men and women have a duty to be educated. It's not just a right, but obligatory.
These poor women are not allowed any education beyond the very basic.

And there is no justification for the covered dress either.

Do these idiotic despicable men have no sisters, mothers or wives? Their hatred for them must run deep.

Blingu · 26/08/2024 14:04

It’s appalling. Tragic. Even in my friend’s family a liberal and comparatively wealthy group her son noticed how his cousin who used to play and laugh and sing now was silent and did the chores around the house. At the hospital he needed to attend a woman was begging for anyone to marry her if they could help her get care for her sick child.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 26/08/2024 14:12

How absolutely awful.

JamSandle · 26/08/2024 14:16

This is why we must never became complacent about women's rights. Things can turn quicker than we think.

This is the small charity that helped evacuate some Afghan women to Scotland this month. A small step but freedom and life for those lucky women https://lindanorgrovefoundation.org/

I’m awaiting the marches in every major city and the occupation of university campuses in solidarity with these Muslim women any minute now. All the people who claim to care so much about Gaza’s women and children will surely be outraged? I expect there’s a lot of threads about this that I’ve just missed.

Donated, thanks

I really wish every last woman and female child could be flown out of Afghanistan and just leave the men to f**ck and fight each other until they all die out.

Thank you for posting that. I have donated.

I'm not sure my brain is fully allowing me to process what is happening to women under the Taliban. Its unimaginable. These women had relative freedom for years and then this.

OneOfThoseOldFashionedWomen · 26/08/2024 15:04

What is so heartening to see is the students at the universities protesting about this very issue.

flymetoalphacentauri · 26/08/2024 15:06

If men had their way we'd all be living like this in every country in the world. Just look at the Stanford Prison Experiment if you don't believe people in developed nations can't turn sadistic as well. Those who've thrown women's rights away will be on the receiving end eventually. Think about it.

This. Send all the hate preachers and rapists to Afghanistan and rescue all the women and girls.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 26/08/2024 15:10

I feel heartbroken not just for the women and girls we abandoned to this in Afghanistan but also the ones who saught sanctuary with us but were rejected and sent back. We have failed the women and girls of Arghanistan. Absolutely failed them.

OneOfThoseOldFashionedWomen · 26/08/2024 15:10

Imagine the outrage if the people target were anyone other than women?
