Women are banned from talking in public

Washingupdone · 26/08/2024 13:13

Women through new laws issued by Afghanistan’s Taliban rulers, are now banned on speaking in public as a woman's voice is considered "intimate" and should not be heard. I feel so sad and helpless for their situation. At least I am educated and in this situation would try to limit birth control without my husband being aware of my actions, if I could.
Does anyone know how they can be helped?

This. Send all the hate preachers and rapists to Afghanistan and rescue all the women and girls.

You would choose to leave the boy babies and children with the men? As a mother of two little boys under five, this makes me so sad. Unless you believe all males are born unchangeably evil.

This is really disturbing. I honestly don't know what can be done. How can such horrific misogyny be allowed to be entrenched in law! Surely if someone isn't allowed to speak they should be able to leave and be granted asylum in a safer country? I really wish I could help them.

Some do (escape and claim asylum) and end up on the receiving end of the anti migrant rhetoric. They're not seen as real people.

Leaving male babies behind?

This is the small charity that helped evacuate some Afghan women to Scotland this month. A small step but freedom and life for those lucky women https://lindanorgrovefoundation.org/

Thank you so much for this. I will set up a direct debit. Just by luck that’s not us and our daughters.

I’m awaiting the marches in every major city and the occupation of university campuses in solidarity with these Muslim women any minute now. All the people who claim to care so much about Gaza’s women and children will surely be outraged? I expect there’s a lot of threads about this that I’ve just missed.

Bingo. Or even the pink pussy hat marches of 2016. Tumbleweed now eh.

Under 3s could go. After about that age they're subject to toxic male socialisation which they all absorb by osmosis.

DoIWantTo · 26/08/2024 15:32

The slow slaughter of women that the world sat back, watched and did nothing about. We as a species should be so incredibly proud of ourselves. /S

ruffler45 · 26/08/2024 15:35

Sounds like they have turned the clock back a thousand years.

cupcaske123 · 26/08/2024 15:36

It's worse, women must also not be heard singing or reading aloud, even from inside their houses. They have to cover their faces when in public and cannot look at non blood relatives. The Taliban are also bringing back public stoning and flogging.

I just don't understand this. There is nothing Islamic about it.
Islamically, men and women have a duty to be educated. It's not just a right, but obligatory.
These poor women are not allowed any education beyond the very basic.

And there is no justification for the covered dress either.

Do these idiotic despicable men have no sisters, mothers or wives? Their hatred for them must run deep.

This is what I don’t understand either, and why the Islamic nations don’t call it out. They do when their Muslim brothers are being killed and oppressed but not their sisters. Women aren’t worth it clearly.

I really wish every last woman and female child could be flown out of Afghanistan and just leave the men to f**ck and fight each other until they all die out.

Yes without a doubt.

And the children who are boys yoo, so they can be raised without being brainwashed.

I said something similar to my husband last night. It feels like a grand reset is the only viable option for Afghanistan at this point. The Taliban wouldn't be able to get away with this without the support of a majority of the men in the country.

Well no, it's not. Which is why I said it's all anti Islamic so I'm not sure what their justification is.

goody2shooz · 26/08/2024 15:55

@Washingupdone how are these Taliban ‘created’? Who’s behind the brainwashing of these sorry excuses for men? You’d hope the pendulum will swing back again, but can banning wome from speaking actually be real?? If so, nothing will be done. It seems the world doesn’t care about the mass slaughter/starvation going on in Gaza, the apartheid regime in Israel and the occupied territories, the appalling situation in Sudan and the Congo, the dreadful state of women’s safety in India and Pakistan, just to name a few. Look at what’s happening to women’s health rights in America. The world, or at least the governments, don’t care. Women don’t count, especially brown or black women. Look at the maternity care/death or birth injury rates for woc in the UK. I don’t know what the solution is but the misogyny is becoming a major global problem.

ButtSurgery · 26/08/2024 15:58

I wish we were seeing hoards of women leaving the country and seeking asylum.

How I wish this could be so.

Scentedjasmin · 26/08/2024 15:58

I feel as though one thing that we can do is discuss head coverings and the oppression of some women in this country in a respectful way. I feel concerned that talking about religious culture has become somewhat of a no go due to accusations or fear of being called racist or bigoted, yet there are communities within the UK where women are less valued. And of course there is the likes of Andrew Tate and his toxicity and a growing culture of misogynism. I think that talking about these issues generally and achieving what we can when we can is important. I'm really not sure that there is much that we can do about the Taliban. I feel as though, if the country wants change, it has to come from a fight from within, with assistance from neighbouring countries. It's time for men who aren't members of the Taliban to stand up for their wives, mothers and daughters.

Well I look forward to hearing the Islamic leaders condemnations, and the pro-Islam left leading the protests then.

They can't leave.

Women aren't allowed to travel without a male family member to escort them, they have to cross into Iran or Pakistan to apply for a visa which they have to initially do undocumented which is difficult and dangerous.

Scentedjasmin · 26/08/2024 16:07

Can you imagine if we were to ship out all the young women and girls and just leave the men to fester in their own dirty laundry with no 12 year old girls to force into marriage. It would be the best experience ever. See how their views might just change when they're actually left to cope without women.

Well in a nutshell, the Taliban are the sons of the mujahideen who fought against the Russians. They were raised in war and its aftermath and educated in schools using a hardline version of Islam funded by Saudi Arabia.
