What's your area famous for?
My sister has brought me some Eccles cakes, absolutely delicious!

What is your local speciality?

I've moved about a lot

Yorkshire, Pork pies, huge 'stand' pies.

Lancashire - meat and potato pie and peas. Hotpot as well.

Stoke - Oatcakes.

Wolverhampton - Hot pork baps.

Where are you? We had that for school dinners in Berkshire. Very sickly - I couldn't eat it now but loved it then.

x2boys · 11/08/2024 10:25

If you like Eccles cakes I imagine you will also like Chorley cakes.

IsletsOfLangerhans · 11/08/2024 10:26

Yorkshire curd tart. Betty’s do an excellent version

Hoppinggreen · 11/08/2024 10:29

In Yorkshire its apparently normal to serve fruity Christmas cake with crumbly cheese but I never liked it.
The Fat Rascals and the curd tarts are nice though

Gummybear23 · 11/08/2024 10:32

Scallops
Not sea food but large slices potatoes dipped in batter and fried.
Get them.from chip shops in Birmingham.
Divine.

Thurien · 11/08/2024 10:32

I have moved about a bit, but lived in the heart of Blue Vinny country. The aroma of the cheese is quite different to the pungent smells of the dairy grasslands that permanently inhabits the nostrils.

WhoppingBigBackside · 11/08/2024 10:33

Swansea - laver bread
Liverpool - scouse
Staffordshire - oatcakes, pikelets (Derbyshire versions also available)

Eccles cakes are nicer than Chorley cakes

@Gummybear23 , we had them where I'm from too.

My Grandma used to serve Xmas cake with cheese, just over the Lancashire border i don't think it was necessarily crumbly cheese though.

A strong cheddar is the cheese of choice with Xmas cake for us (Yorkshire) but I know some other folks prefer crumbly cheese.

WhoppingBigBackside · 11/08/2024 10:37

Not Wensleydale?!

YerMaRubsPlumsAtTheBackOfAldi · 11/08/2024 10:37
