What's your area famous for?
My sister has brought me some Eccles cakes, absolutely delicious!

What is your local speciality?

Scallops
Not sea food but large slices potatoes dipped in batter and fried.
Get them.from chip shops in Birmingham.
Divine.

I bloody love these but know them as potato fritters.
Used to buy them for lunch for 10p from the chippy.
Not had them in years, would love one right now!

I’m in the East Midlands and we are known for brewing the best beer in Burton on Trent, making the best puddings in Bakewell, making the best pork pies in Melton Mowbray and, of course, making Stilton, the best cheese in the world.

In Yorkshire its apparently normal to serve fruity Christmas cake with crumbly cheese but I never liked it.
The Fat Rascals and the curd tarts are nice though

Cake without cheese is like a kiss without a squeeze….said my mother.
personaly I love Christmas cake and cheese!

x2boys · 11/08/2024 11:08

Chips and gravy 😋

Gall10 · 11/08/2024 11:09

I seem to be the only Geordie here so far….
stottie cakes (think of a big, round, flat bread bun!)
steak bakes…all over the news at the minute!
pease pudding
lindisfarne Mede (ok, so that’s Northumberland but Northumberland is only a step over the border from Tyneside)
Newkey broon…to always be served in a wet schooner glass!
Reading this I see we don’t have the healthiest of diets!

Yes - this is a great one too! If you haven’t tried the Betty’s one, do give it a go. Expensive, but a lovely treat.

In our family, the Christmas cake is the accompaniment to the cheese 🤣 Don’t bother icing/marzipanning it. It’s all about the cheese 🧀

BloodyHellBob · 11/08/2024 11:25

Orange chips. Faggots and grey peas

What are orange chips?.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 11/08/2024 11:50

Sticky toffee pudding
Kendal mint cake (bleurgh!)

Herisabostinwench · 11/08/2024 11:54

@Thevelvelletes when you go the chippy here you have to say if you don’t want orange chips. The chips are thrown in the batter mix ( that sometimes has a bit of turmeric or paprika in)- they come out fluorescent orange. Round here it’s hard to find a chippy that does ordinary chips.

Coventry God cakes from erm...Coventry 😁 triangular pockets of puff pastry with mincemeat inside with three slashes on top to represent the Holy Trinity. Another term that seems unique to Coventry is the word batch for a cob or roll. Chip batch anyone?

Cornwall - Saffron Cake and Cornish Pasty
