Scents that you bizarrely hate!

I’ll go first..

Newspapers and new books are my nemesis! Books are usually manageable but I have genuinely never been able to bring myself to willingly touch a newspaper, I don’t even like being in the same room as them due to the smell🤣 Wish I was joking..

Anyone else have a strange dislike to a smell that would be inoffensive to most other people?

Angel by Thierry Mugler.
It was my go to perfume but my husband tried to disguise the smell of mould in our bread bin with it thinking it smelt like chocolate!

The combined stench was putrid!!

I don't think I'm the only one who dislikes it, but deepheat cream makes me feel physically ill, i find it stomach churning.
I also absolutely hate the smell of yorkshire tea bags ....

Went for a drink in a pub beer garden yesterday and another customer nearby absolutely stunk of deep heat. I was gagging. Husband couldn’t smell a thing.

also years ago I worked with a lovely girl who wore Gucci Rush perfume which absolutely nauseated me like nothing else I’ve ever experienced.

Poison perfume - a flatmates girlfriend when I was at uni wore it and I spent months looking for a discarded kebab all over the flat as it smelt like kebab meat to me

😂
Any old perfume for me, the old scents make me feel sick
Baby powder smell
Cooking meat

I hate truffle oil/truffle anything as well. It’s probably the only ‘taste’ or smell that I properly hate. I find it SO overpowering. Many a mushroom pizza has been ruined for me by the inclusion of truffle oil!

Yep! I don’t mind proper truffle but the oil is so overpowering, makes me feel instantly sick 🤢 I’ve had many a restaurant pasta dish ruined by it!

And thickly-filled tuna sandwiches. Eeeeuuugh!

XenoBitch · 11/08/2024 18:19

Lavender. It seems 'heavy' to me.. if that even makes sense (scents 😅)?
Also, cinnamon. I hate xmas time when all the bags of scented pine cones are in shops.

Blueuggboots · 11/08/2024 18:21

Geraniums. As a child my grandmother had a hall stand covered in them. They always looked and smelt musty to me.

This isn’t just you. Geraniums always look ‘old’ and smell musty. I like them but only as outdoor plants.

Tulipvase · 11/08/2024 19:06

Geraniums.

Ha that will teach me not to read all the thread.

And some other awful hedge plant that smells like cat piss.

CorvusPurpureus · 11/08/2024 19:09

Sandalwood. Hangover from a miserable French exchange in y7, & hiding in the bathroom for hours with a bar of Imperial Leather.

I'm ok with it as a constituent in perfume these days (only took 40 years...) but on its own, it just stinks of misery & bullying to me.

Vanilla anything.

Yes, vanilla is vile.

Yupdowop · 11/08/2024 19:32

To me there are two v distinct cinnamon smells, and the one we mostly get more commonly now is not the one I remember from childhood on cinnamon toast etc. I think it’s Ceylon which is sweeter cinnamon and cassia which is more widely used these days and is (to me) the nauseating, antiseptic version.

Athitch · 11/08/2024 19:33

Vinegar hate hate hate!!!

TheBestBear · 11/08/2024 19:33
