Anxious about trump presidency

Is anyone else lying awake at night worrying about this?

I don't live in the states but I am really anxious about this. I'm anxious for everyone living over there yes very much so, but I'm anxious about the much greater possibility of world war, I'm anxious about all the cuts to funding for various international issues in particular climate change initiatives. We're already fucked on that front but if there's any hope for our children we need the power of the states. The Project 2025 list of targets is like something from a dystopian novel, it's really frightening.

I'm also very nervous that the way the new government will structure the legal system they will essentially create a dictatorship that will never be able to be dismantled - they have basically said they will try to do this and tried last time (but failed).

Can anyone talk me down. I can't see anything positive here.

I think you have classic Trump derangement syndrome so I won’t be engaging anymore

Translation; "I have no rebuttal for the facts, so I'll post some hackneyed Trumper phrase and run away."

CurlsnSunshinetime4tea · 17/07/2024 02:33

i'm rather surprised to read many of these posts, i'm "next door" in canada and like others have said he was president before and not much happened and potentially some good...canada finally has ponied up to 2% nato spending.
abortion rights is state by state remember each state is independent so understandable how each one will have a different history and policy.

We're all concerned about it but he hasn't won, yet. If it is affecting your MH this much do you think maybe you need to consider whether your MH has slipped (not being snarky) Smile

Trump wanted to kick undocumented children out of public schools "because cockroaches can survive". He doesn't care about kids and he's a rapist himself.

A white rapist can be President, but latino victims of violence fleeing for their lives are an inherent threat to children.
These people are both stupid and insane.

You obviously have nothing at all in your life to be worried about. Lucky you.

You're not worried at the prospect of the US pulling out of NATO, for example?

You have got to be kidding me. The stupid as fuck trucker convoy attempt to bring down a lawful government a few years ago was funded and initiated by Trumpers who got anti-vaxxers and other morons riled up.
Their evil is spreading north and you're okay with that.

Emmanuelll · 17/07/2024 02:41

@XChrome I find the Trumpists absolutely bloody infuriating but since most of them have been lying to themselves since 2020, I figured they are not going to ever climb down from their ridiculous positions. They are all unable to see the truth if it smacks them in the face. It's like trying to convince someone the tooth fairy doesn't exist.

There is no nuclear button. It takes multiple high level military personnel with top secret codes and physical keys to work in unison to launch a nuclear attack and I truly believe they would not, at this point, blindly follow an order from Biden to do so.

Maybe, but if more people knew how often and how close we've come to nuclear war, I think they'd be less sanguine about a cognitively impaired President (and nuclear armaments in general)

Emmanuelll · 17/07/2024 02:54

Just because Biden has cognitive decline that does not mean that he would start firing nuclear weapons. Where do people get these silly ideas? The MAGA movement?

You surely know that Obama was far more aggressive that Trump during his presidency? Do some actual research.

Yes!

CurlsnSunshinetime4tea · 17/07/2024 02:56

Zero issue with the trucking convoy. Nothing wrong with a bit of critical thinking either, many of the blanket rules were inappropriate.

They were terrorists FFS. They attacked multiple people, shut down the downtown and made it unlivable due to noise and choking fumes over a wide area, tried to set fire to a building and had a cache of weapons, indicating they were planning an armed insurrection.
So you support terrorism and sedition. Got it.

I’ve lived in the USA for 16 years now, originally from the UK where I lived for my first 30 years.
politics here is crazy. It goes on and on for years before the election. I’ve given up caring. Since I became a citizen I vote and that’s my say and then I get on with my life. No point in worrying about it. People here don’t retire they just selfishly go on and on. Bader Ginsberg did it, trump and Biden are doing it, pelosi and McConnell … they just can’t give up the power on either side of the aisle. They’re all as bad as each other.

They are talking about invoking antiquated federal law that would prohibit interstate transport of medicine and implements used to perform abortion.

Pretty hard to obtain one if your doctor hasn't the tools, whether or not it's technically legal in one's own state.

The GOP is evil, and trump is their useful idiot.

It’s somewhat strange that you fear a Trump presidency when the world was fairly stable during his 4 years. During Obama, ISIS was planting bombs and killing hundreds of people in Europe and he did nothing about it. Trump gave the military permission to wipe out ISIS and these mass murders stopped. Biden has allowed millions of unvetted immigrants into the country who are killing and raping American women and children in frightening numbers. Trump said he will deport them on day 1 (that is what he was referring to when he said he would be a dictator on day 1)

What a pile of utter deluded brain-washed nonsense. . There's too much blatantly wrong to take apart patiently. I'm sorry that your head's so full of crap. Maybe stick to 4chan and the telegraph app where your bubble won't be popped.

Ginsburg couldn't retire because she was the last liberal left on SCOTUS. She was a fine jurist until the end. Now the court is completely one-sided, which is dangerous. Don't piss on RBG for sacrificing and doing what was right.

CurlsnSunshinetime4tea · 17/07/2024 03:27

not sure where you live @XChrome but it's the capital and they are allowed to peacefully demonstrate. and did anything other than noise manifest itself? attacks happen in all canadian cities tensions were high i'm actually surprised how peaceful it was. surprised nothing happened earlier, all the unnecessary covid rules (stat's can) anyone, and covid hotels, the sheer stupidity of how this was mismanaged. the trial of those involved is still out, so certainly not a clear cut case.

Focus on your life and stop thinking about Trump or the US. We all screamed about how how would start a world war get it didn't happen under his watch, project 2025 is not a Trump proposal but somehow we're all scared.

I'm not a trump fan but I also don't get all this scaremongering to the extent you can't sleep lol.

The UK reports an unhealthy amount of news about the US, it's ridiculous the amount of air time spent on the US.

This is the kind of reassurance I need.

But is it true? He's already managed to appoint Supreme Court justices who'll do whatever he wants. He's adjusted parts of the constitution already. He's a convinced felon but still able to be president. He has plans to adjust the laws further to protect him from any future repercussions for his behaviour...

What part of the constitution did he adjust?

I disagree, she should have retired while Obama was president so should be removed by a younger liberal judge but she redused.

She was already suffering from ill health during Obama presidency and I remember there were moves from the Democrats to try to encourage her to step down but she refused.

For OP: Project 2025 is a think tank written by the Heritage Foundation. Yes it was done by notable Republican members but it is not a manifesto and is not an official document outlining what Trump plans to do.

In terms of what re-election might look like. Likely more of the same from the first term.

All the scaremongering about pulling out of NATO and Europe. Won't happen. It is all political posturing to get other NATO countries to pull their weight and meet the GDP % requirement for Defence spending instead of them being over-reliant on the US.

Foreign policy wise Trump is a safer bet than Biden. He wasn't nicknamed Sleepy Joe for a reason. Too slow to act.
The Afghanistan withdrawal was ballsed up by Biden because of his inability to react quickly. The Taliban saw the weakness and took their chance. They would not have taken that risk with Trump.

Ironically he's been one of the few Presidents who didn't start any new wars and in fact was aiming to reduce US troop presence in MENA region.

His downfalls however (like most leaders) was the poor handling of covid and the hit it took on the economy. Pretty much undid everything Trump achieved in his first year.
Biggest one is his character and the fact he just happens to be so divisive and rubs people up the wrong way. Works to try keep the lid on the boiling dictator pan.. but alienates current allies in the process.
