Anxious about trump presidency

Is anyone else lying awake at night worrying about this?

I don't live in the states but I am really anxious about this. I'm anxious for everyone living over there yes very much so, but I'm anxious about the much greater possibility of world war, I'm anxious about all the cuts to funding for various international issues in particular climate change initiatives. We're already fucked on that front but if there's any hope for our children we need the power of the states. The Project 2025 list of targets is like something from a dystopian novel, it's really frightening.

I'm also very nervous that the way the new government will structure the legal system they will essentially create a dictatorship that will never be able to be dismantled - they have basically said they will try to do this and tried last time (but failed).

Can anyone talk me down. I can't see anything positive here.

You obviously have nothing at all in your life to be worried about. Lucky you.

What a snarky comment. Everyone I know is worried.

Biggleslefae · 17/07/2024 00:44

I agree it's far from ideal but I'm resigned to it and not losing sleep over it. I'm kind of curious to see what happens if I'm honest!

It’s somewhat strange that you fear a Trump presidency when the world was fairly stable during his 4 years. During Obama, ISIS was planting bombs and killing hundreds of people in Europe and he did nothing about it. Trump gave the military permission to wipe out ISIS and these mass murders stopped. Biden has allowed millions of unvetted immigrants into the country who are killing and raping American women and children in frightening numbers. Trump said he will deport them on day 1 (that is what he was referring to when he said he would be a dictator on day 1)

There was all this sort of talk when he was first running for president. Celebs bleating about leaving the country etc.
Did anything catastrophic happen? No.
If you are lying awake worrying about this you need to get a grip

I'm far more worried about a Biden presidency. The man is obviously senile yet has his finger on the nuclear button. On the last week he called Ukrainian president Putin and said Trump was his deputy president. That after the terrible debate performance. Yet Starmer thinks he's fit to be in charge.

Telephonewiresabove · 17/07/2024 01:46

He has been president before - did anything change in your life that makes your reaction warranted?

Classic Trumper xenophobic, racist, despicable lies.

Fair point. But I still think maybe try to get things in perspective.

My perspective is that given Trump & his administration's views on International aid and human rights etc, that the women in those countries you suggest everyone focus on will be worse off.

Well then ask the parents of Jocelyn Nungaray if this is a lie

"Mexicans are rapists" redux. These people are scary in their hate filled irrationality.

Molly70 · 17/07/2024 02:21

xenophobic and racist for wanting to protect children from being raped???

It depends what you consider catastrophic I suppose. But geopolitics has moved on somewhat since Trump 0.1 and so has the Republican Party. Trump 0.2 won't have the people around him to talk him down from implementing some of batshittery he wanted to do last time.

Another Trump Presidency Would Be Even Worse Than You Think

If Trump wins again, former aides and officials predict chaos and vengeance

There’s nothing positive about any possible outcome of the US election at this point but there’s NOTHING we can do about it and worrying won’t change anything.

Stop watching the news and concentrate on enjoying your own life in your little corner of the world, whatever that looks like.

Molly70 · 17/07/2024 02:23

I’m saying that people need to be vetted to prevent this.Surely, it’s not only the decent people coming across the boarder

Disgusting dishonesty, tying sexual assault to race. Pure evil.

Trump wanted to kick undocumented children out of public schools "because cockroaches can survive". He doesn't care about kids and he's a rapist himself.

I’m tying sexual assault to criminality

Trump wanted to set the army on them, not vett them.

Trump and most of his associates in and outside of government are convicted criminals.

There is no nuclear button. It takes multiple high level military personnel with top secret codes and physical keys to work in unison to launch a nuclear attack and I truly believe they would not, at this point, blindly follow an order from Biden to do so.

You got that straight from Trump. "These are not good people."
Most of them are people fleeing gang violence in Central America. These are victims of violence.
Your racism does not allow you to empathize with them. You have constructed a monster in your imagination based on race.
Not that it will do any earthly good on you, but perhaps this link will be enlightening to somebody else.

Like Trump, a self-confessed sex criminal?
Give me a break. You are 100% making it about race.
